I already checked the pre season threads and the first few games of the season so there’s no point trying this and that’s just on here.

Yea you’re probably best “ignoring me” when you’re wrong.

Let me guess what’s gonna happen next. 😃
You’re gonna pull out an outta context msg that you think proves you correct but in reality you’ve completely misunderstood what’s being discussed.

    Let me guess again
You’re gonna tell me I’m wrong.

Wrong about what? What I get out of this is that you’re unhappy with something that happened before. We were talking about van den berg and gomez and you saw the need to start this? Why?

You don’t have to take my word for it even if you don’t want to refer back to the past threads. Just a simple question needs to be answered. How many people here honestly thought Elliott would be playing regularly for the senior squad this season? I was a part of a lot of those discussions. I’ll admit, I didnt think he’d come in so quickly as well as my posts from back then would reflect. I’m not sure what you’re trying to achieve here by disagreeing with me in this manner.

Dont know what all the fuss is about Firmino, he’s always been in and around a 1 goal in three games player, he has also been subbed in or out more since Jota has been doing the business and since his injury…so less minutes ….but is still on course to be a 1 in 3 player. He is not at his best but is still instrumental and earns his wages. If you want to talk about high wages not delivering let’s talk about Thiago.

Elliott wasn’t very good last night in midfield. He is going to be a great player though, we’ve all seen enough to know that. He will take time to grow into the role of a midfielder in a 433 think he is still more of a winger at heart but has shown he can step up. Most young players that break into the scene dont go on to be exceptional players. Think Woodburn, think Ibe, Smith, Flanagan even Grujic. Elliott looks a very different proposition.
VDB has not done anything yet to suggest he is able to step up. He couldnt even get a game last year when we had no available senior defender. Granted he is still young especially for a defender, and may be excellent in the future. But at his age Gomez was playing in champions league finals.
If we scrapped senior players for young prospects who showed a glimpse of magic we would be in a sorry state.

“But at his age Gomez was playing in champions league finals.”

No. Gomez has never played in any other final for us other than against Spurs and even then, he was a stoppage time substitute when the game was won.

“If we scrapped senior players for young prospects who showed a glimpse of magic we would be in a sorry state.”

Doing just fine without Wijnaldum and Shaqiri despite not signing anyone else. First time we’re pushing on all fronts under Klopp in fact.

Elliott is returning from injury. This game was perhaps a step to high for him just now. It’s harsh to judge him on this performance when he’s never played in a game like this before and had to do it while not fully match sharp. If anything, the experience will only help him learn to play without the ball.

Firmino has 2 goals in 17. Don’t see how that’s anywhere near 1 in 3. His performances haven’t been good either. We are unbeaten in the last 20 matches that Thiago has started having only drawn 2 in that time. His stats are world class across the board. Not sure where you’re getting this information that he’s not delivering.

Indeed. Part of the reason why Greenwood is potentially going to prison IMO, is because he had role models like these at Utd. Don’t get me wrong, he’s responsible for his own actions just like how he broke Covid restrictions on international duty just so he could get some. The lack of accountability just because he has talent just reeks of the culture there right now and Pogba is probably the main reason why.

Thiago is reportedly the second highest earner on the team. No one denies his obvious ability, he can give us something different at times…..but not much use if he is so often unavailable for us. And he has a habit of giving the ball away very cheaply. Do we miss Wijnaldum? ….we probably did when we were scrambling for a fit midfielder before Christmas.
Elliott and Thiago need time to recover properly from injury…..but gomez and Firmino dont? 2 goals in 17 is a very strange stat to wheel out…..can only be construed as something to back an agenda…..its like city fans who say we only have 1 premier league and choose to ignore any league titles before 1992. So I’ll reply then with a stat of my own, 1 goal in 1 game…..
Firmino now has 3 goals in 4 champions league appearances. And over the entirety of the played season is in around the 1 in 3 ratio. And ……hes a forward that’s…”not expected to score”….apparently, (mis)quoting you here.
He didnt play fantastic last night either, but he know exactly where he was putting the ball with that header. Quality player.

My initial view on this year’s summer transfer window.

Bellingham will be far too expensive for us, and we could look elsewhere, but a top, robust midfielder is required, though we will need to sell one or two midfielders first. Bissouma would fit the bill, but his criminal charges rule him out.

Gomez was rumoured to be wanted by Gerrard at Villa, if this happens, then Phillips (or a new CB if Phillips is also sold) could be his replacement. Whatever happens, we need a good 4th choice CB, which is what Gomez is now.

As usual, Klopp and Edwards (and now Ward) have been known to surprise us fans, and just like with Diaz, I think they will do so again.

If I score 5 goals across 2 games then didn’t score in another 14, I would still have around 1 in 3. It also means I wasn’t consistent across those 15 games. 2 goals in 17 since mid October is the reality whether you want to face it or not. Form is a thing in football and I’m not the only one pointing it out. The reality is that even the manager disagrees with you and has preferred another forward in that position, just like he’s preferred 3 other defenders ahead of Gomez. We already have another player lined up who will likely come in the summer and will most likely see some sort of major change whether any of us like it or not, just like last summer.

Only game where we had to use a “youngster” this season in midfield is against Spurs when Morton had to start and that was down to an unprecedented Covid crisis more than injuries. The rest of the time, we were able to put out good teams.

Elliott and Thiago need time to recover properly from injury…..but Gomez and Firmino dont?

Not my point at all and also completely different circumstances. Elliott has just come back in after 2 games and is still largely inexperienced. Thiago has come back in and still played at a high level. Based on what you’re saying, Firmino clearly hasn’t done the same. If you want to talk about misplaced passes, how many did Firmino give away? Or any other player. This is just nitpicking. Gomez has been largely available since pre season but has been constantly overlooked, mostly being used as a cup player and not a very impressive one at that. Meanwhile, the 2 other defenders with long term injuries are straight back in and so is the new signing, who could have been reasonably expected to be given time to settle in. There are reasons other than injuries as to why these 2 players are being overlooked in certain games whether anyone wants to accept it or not.

Razor there has never been any accusation towards Pogba being a bad influence at Utd, apparently he trains in a very professional way. Loosely associating him as a role model for a guy who is facing rape and assault is pretty low no matter what you think of him as a player.

On the matter of young players, we only see a fraction of what they do compared to klopp and his team. Clearly they saw something in Elliot that we fans are now getting to see. Us fans love to think of our young starlets stepping up like Robbie, Gerrard or Owen did but in truth most of them will go on to be pretty average players. Elliot clearly is impressing Klopp, talk of VdB is very premature. He could be a star or he could easily be very average.

Threeps, quite right, there is this stupid media bias against Pogba, totally unjustified, and made worse by the likes of Souness with his blinkered views.

How many disciplinary or criminal issues has Pogba ever been involved in, for example?

My view on Pogba, top player, but very inconsistent, could do much better.
