They already gave Milner an improved contract coupla years ago and apparently are prepared to give him another.
Hendo was also given an improved/longer contract at the age of 30.June 2, 2022 at 7:02 pm #2102020

Neither Milner or Hendo’s contract extensions involved pay rises Ginger. Both make 140k pw and have done for some time.
That’s the issue here with Mane and Mo. They want more but it ‘seems’ Fenway are reluctant to give them what they’re asking for.June 2, 2022 at 8:41 pm #2102037
That’s what I was getting at.
It’s not the fact they’re 30+; it’s that they don’t want to give them a significant pay rise.
The massive personality of Klopp can keep a player involved for only so long, sooner or later they’ll want paid what they should be getting.June 2, 2022 at 8:54 pm #2102040June 2, 2022 at 9:11 pm #2102046
Never thought mane was all about leaving for change. All about the money for both of them. Manes 100k a week was a bloody disgrace.
They are just players. No affiliation to the club. They want to earn ad much as they can. I can see both points of view. Players and the clubs perspective.
Anywhere at the minute is a step down so all about the money. Munich in a nothing league says it allJune 3, 2022 at 4:10 am #2102057
Mane’s basic weekly wage is 100k/wk. He probably gets a significant amount more from performance/appearance bonuses and team success. Even Robertson agreed a new contract last summer on a pathetically low reported basic wage. Probably gets 5 times that amount in reality. Don’t see why he would sign for significantly less money than Trent.June 3, 2022 at 8:36 am #2102074
Ye maybe razor but maddock is a very reputable reporter so I believe what he says. At the end of the day with mo and mane , it’s all about money. That’s it. They wasn’t more money. If we paid them more they would stay but I also understand the clubs prespective
Two world class players who are elite professionals who could play on for years and we will lose then to sone kind of rival.
What do you think is the solution here?June 3, 2022 at 8:43 am #2102077
I’m more gutted about mane going then I would ever be about Salah. The man is a machine. Can play anywhere in the front 3 and stands up in absolutely huge games. He’s irreplaceable and a workd class player who is going to vastly improve any team.
Huge pity the way the 12 days has gone
Who is next that wants to leave because of money?June 3, 2022 at 9:06 am #2102081
“Who is next that wants to leave because of money”
I guess we need to look at which players could think they are getting less money than their status suggests.
VvD, best defender in the World but is he the best paid? Don’t think so, read that is actually his national team mate de Ligt on 400k. Rudiger will be getting close to that by joining Madrid which will almost quadruple his earnings. Van Dijk earns 220k I think.
Alisson probably the best goalkeeper in the World, earns I believe 150k. That is less than half the highest paid GK de Gea at 375k. Neuer is on 325k. Alisson only earns 50k more than the likes of Pickford and Dean Henderson!
These figures are just taken from a quick search so may not be 100% correct but I think there’s potential for a few players to go searching for a bigger pay packet.June 3, 2022 at 9:57 am #2102090
Ye that’s the concern threeps mate.
Most of these guys would leave tomorrow at the drop of a hat for more money. Taa and jones only players who are from Liverpool and who would have 2nd thoughts maybe
Bonus are added as razor says but I’m sure the players you mentioned all get bonuses aswell.
I think vvd and others are on long term contracts but it’s only a matter of time before this pops up againJune 3, 2022 at 10:30 am #2102108
Simple. Pay them salary deserving of their performance and status.June 3, 2022 at 10:39 am #2102111
Is it as simple as that redsforever? Have we got they money?
We have become really successful on and off the pitch so do we now have to starting paying the massive wages to compete with the others?
We have world class players here. Best players in the world in their positions and they want our even though we are a special team. It’s all about moneyJune 3, 2022 at 11:00 am #2102114
I’ve been saying for some time now that I thought we’d sign one of the front 3 to a new long (ish) term contract, sell one, let the other run down their contract/short extension.
I was starting to think we’d sign Salah up, sell Mané and keep Firmino.
That could still happen I guess but I’m not so sure now. We may have to sell Mane this window and Salah runs down his contract. I don’t see us giving Firmino and new longish contract.
I could forsee these issues coming from about 18mths ago, so I’d imagine those in the club could see the potential for problems. All of the front 3 having contracts run out at the same time, plus Kieta/Ox and Milner running out this summer. I can’t for the life of me understand why they left it to this stage to sort out.June 3, 2022 at 12:02 pm #2102131
Threeps: Wouldn’t be too bothered about VvD and Alisson. Both signed fresh terms last season with 2025 & 2027 the expiry date.June 3, 2022 at 1:08 pm #2102147
1. Yes i genuinely think we got the money
2. Yes we got to give massive wages if we want to keep world class players.June 3, 2022 at 2:21 pm #2102168
Liverpool have recently offered hugely incentivised, preformace based bonuses to go with somewhat lower basic wage. I’m all for that.
And as our team have had some very good seasons lately we have one of the highest wage bills in the league.
If players heading out of their prime dont want that and just want a jumbo weekly wage, it shows that they dont even have confidence in themselves to be able to stay fit and preform at a consistently high level for the next few years. No problem with players moving team or demanding a big pay day who are probably signing their last big contract, or taking their last chance to play for certain teams, but it’s a myth that we dont pay well.June 3, 2022 at 6:52 pm #2102248
Fulcrum, there is 100 million discrepancy between what is reported as the base wage for our players and the actual accounts… The lads are getting significantly higher wages than reported, that is all explained by highly incentivised bonuses… I reckon Salah, Van Dijk and a few others are getting closer to 300k per week, when goal scoring bonuses, win bonuses, clean sheet bonuses etc. are included.
I got zero worries about the future, there is nothing to worry about, players might leave on free in the near future. I hope we can persuade a couple of them to sign on for a few more years but there is talent out there to replace them when needed and the club has the funds…
I really like Darwin Nunez for example, he would offer us something different from both Bobby and Mane, he is capable of carrying up the ball, holding it up as well, got excellent pace and is really physical player who seems to have a eye for a goal. We kinda need that finisher right now, someone like Lewandowski, as evident by our goal scoring touch in the finals this season.June 4, 2022 at 1:26 am #2102285
Sean, I don’t agree with you regards Salah just wanting more money and even with mane kinda disrespectfully announcing that he’s leaving… These players could have been at other clubs a few years ago, making MUCH more but they wanted to play for Liverpool.
I’ve said it before, that we spread our salary out too much, because we have one of the highest salary bills out there, AFAIK. Maybe Im wrong but our revenue is very close to Utd’s now, so if we dont, then where is it going?
During covid, I think figures stated that the percentage that we spend on wages was very high. I forget the figures but if we look at what Threeps has posted and then at our incredible revenue… why cant we pay a few of our TOP TOP players well enough?
Using Threep’s examples, that would suggest that although there are some extreme examples, we’re so far below.
Mane’s salary of 100k is criminally low and no, Robertson does not make 5 times that after bonuses, utter rubbish talk. Bonuses are just that, they are not the main part of your standard players pay package.
So ya, I totally get Mane wanting to leave but why does he announce it in such a stupid and kinda disrespectful way? “oh I see that 60-70% of Senegalese want me to leave liverpool, so I’ll do what the people want…” (not verbatim but damn close)
Seems it’s a bit of a joke to him. If this is how he starts, how’s he going to carry on when FSG reject Bayerns lowball BS?June 4, 2022 at 1:31 am #2102286
It’s very early on and we’ll likely get more information soon but words from Salah are VERY VERY much that he wants to stay. He’s only asking for a 15% pay rise. He’s already earned it in my opinion and it really would have served us better to have it sorted MUCH sooner and to put his mind at rest, so he can focus 100% football.
Salah loves the club. I dont doubt it for a second. I can’t say the same about Mane. I will go looking for more of what he said before I say more on it but it’s not looking great so far.
Give Salah what he wants, hold Bayerns head to the fire regards Mane. Lewendowsky is leaving them and they need Mane more than we do. Reject 4 or 5 of their offers. If Mane kicks off, kick him into the reserves for the remainder of his contract.
I’d be much happier knowing that Edwards was in charge here. It’s a real baptism of fire for ward.June 4, 2022 at 6:33 am #2102298
How can we have a wage bill so high if all our top players are making as little money as some of you say?
