We want Nunez.
Make it happen FSG. Show us you’re genuinely interested in competing.June 9, 2022 at 8:28 am #2103715
There’s no need to spend big every season, but sometimes, you just have to.June 9, 2022 at 8:40 am #2103720
teck, think we’ve competed quite well under FSG, don’t you think?
Not sure relying on your wishes is the way to future success.June 9, 2022 at 9:48 am #2103751
Not just quite, but very well indeed. But is losing to Man City every season in the league good enough for you? It’s okay to keep spending small if it is. Expectations just need to be adjusted accordingly.June 9, 2022 at 9:55 am #2103753

I think competing to the very last point of the season (including a couple of CL finals) is very much in line with my expectations – or beyond to be honest when you look at how deep pockets our competitors in City and PSG for example have.June 9, 2022 at 12:41 pm #2103832
Fair enough, that is a very fair way to describe being competitive. It is indeed very tough to win the league, Man City or not. But with their spending, there’s always that little gap that becomes a gulf if the club always tries to compete without spending. Big when necessary. Look at what happened to Utd after Ferguson left.June 9, 2022 at 12:44 pm #2103834
Spending big on maintenance sometimes is better than spending huge on a major overhaul. Frequently not even one overhaul. Again, one just needs to look at United.June 9, 2022 at 1:10 pm #2103842
Liverpool are literally competing in the toughest era to win the Premier league. It generally takes 90+ points to win it. Even in the pandemic season it took 86.
We took it to the last 15mins of the season this year and competed in the finals of the other 3 competitions.June 9, 2022 at 1:46 pm #2103853
A front 3 of Salah Nunez Diaz.. i cant wait.June 9, 2022 at 2:16 pm #2103867
Teck: But we can’t really compare ourselves with City. They can afford a mistake in the transfer market but we can’t.June 9, 2022 at 2:26 pm #2103870
Threeps, I could not resist… Its just like teck states, they have done every mistake in the book since Fergie retired, its one big I told you so…
It seems like Nunez really wants the move to Anfield, I read something about how he wanted to experience the atmosphere every week.
I really like this guy, I even think he might turn out to be a better signing than Haaland will, they are at a very similar level but I reckon Darwin is easier to manage. In fact they are almost identical in playing style.
He is even refusing to talk to anyone else than us, which means we are not gonna be over paying him and his contract is probably on equal terms with Diaz or Mane…June 9, 2022 at 2:45 pm #2103880
Utd have more than enough problems already without Liverpool fans reminding them!
Not sure Nunez and Haaland have identical styles. I hope not anyway, I hope Nunez does more in the build up and works harder for the team. But I think either of them would suit Liverpool more than City with their tiptappy slow style. Haaland at least is about pace and power, not exactly what City are famed for. Nunez I’ve not seen enough to comment.
Interesting piece on Haaland’s City move here with some potential issues.

I said that VVD’S leadership skills were worth 10M when we were chasing him, and I can say the same for Darwin, the way he beat the off side trap set by top experts in this speciality at Anfield, would add this kind of amount on his fee.
However if he wants 200,000 wages then I would not be too keen on having him at the club. He could join Utd for all I care, we are in a position where we have a well oiled team, and a reasonably talented player would fit in and be close to his best straight away.
Train with VVD, Matip, Konate, Jota would make him improve even more. Breaking the record transfer fee is another matter, because Benfica should reap the benefits of getting an unknown player to score against Barca, and do something Messi or Aguero couldn’t do, that is silence the Kop.June 9, 2022 at 3:42 pm #2103903
Threeps, not identical but very similar… They are both big and powerful, they both like to lead the line, they can both hold up the ball…
captkirk, the only one that has suggested that Nunez is gonna get a 200k contract is Mak. I don´t know why, or how Mak came up with that figure.
Luis Diaz was the 2nd highest scorer in Portugal when we bought him and he signed for 67k, Fernandes signed for 120k when he signed for United and I dare say that Nunez can not demand more than those two players. He is currently earning 2 million a year or about 40k a week. I think the club will double that or at most triple on a 5 year contract.June 9, 2022 at 3:44 pm #2103904

Reds, if it happens I’m hoping the end product is more consistent next season. The number of chances we miss is staggering.June 9, 2022 at 5:45 pm #2103937
Being reported that personal terms have been agreed and we are Nunez destination of choice.
Down to the clubs now to agree.
It’ll be the first proper no9 we’ll have had in years.June 9, 2022 at 5:55 pm #2103940
“It’ll be the first proper no9 we’ll have had in years.” I don’t disagree, though you know that Klopp likes his players to be versatile, even Salah has played at No. 9.
Both Mane and Jota started off as wingers, before doing much better (and even excelling) at No. 9, in fact that’s Jota’s best position for us. If we do sign Nunez, I hope he proves to be much better than Haaland, and delivers us the league title on his first attempt.June 9, 2022 at 5:58 pm #2103942
Ya, this really looks like it’s gonna happen. I’m inclined to think that Teck has a point here, and didnt we all agree with him at one stage, in that FSG didnt spend quite enough after our PL win? Maybe some here didnt think so, but I seem to remember it being a generally accepted point of view at times.
Still. if we had been spending then, we wouldnt be able to spend BIG this summer. We’ll get some of the money from Mane and our signing of Ramsay might even end up being a profit position, after the in and out. There remains midfield and I really hope that we can ship Ox out. We wont get much for him but whatever we do and the wages we get off our books, I think we might manage to make a midfield signing. How much we can spend will be determined but I’m sure we’re planning ahead for it, with all deals considered.
Nunez does seem to really want to come just to Liverpool, which is a great sign. That’s the Klopp effect right there. What will we do without him? Players will be back to picking Utd and Spurs instead of us hahahJune 9, 2022 at 6:22 pm #2103949
Regarding Núñez’s salary, let’s see if the journalist below turns out to be true (or not), if Núñez does indeed sign for us, because as you know in football anything can happen.
“The 22-year-old will earn a reported £5.1 million per year at Anfield – which is around £98,600-a-week, according to Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepulveda.”
Firmino’s already liking his posts, and following him on Instagram, if that’s anything to go by.
