Absolutely 999. Will never forget that match against Barca 3-0 up inside 20 odd minutes :). Also another of his teams rattled up the initial record point total of 95 from memory and played quality stuff. The opposition did not have a clue. Let’s not let any of that spoil things though.

1967, and we were without Drogba for that game too due to suspension. We also played a very defensive 4/4/2 which became 4/2/4 when we were on the attack!😊

In recent years, the Chelsea side I enoyed watching the most was Carlos, they went for it every game during the title winning season.

Strangely though Carlo’s squad like a few other Chelsea squads around those times either side of Carlo’s reign, got to November on fire and then went two months with the wobbles only really coming good again around mid January. I found that very frustrating at the time. 999 would remember those issues too.

Very defensive 4-4-2 becoming 4-2-4 ha ha. Best game of football I’ve watched involving Chelsea for entertainment value. While we are at it, Conte’s title winning side once we went 3-4-3 wasn’t bad on the eye either. I was plenty entertained.

Further to my above post, 2010-2011 was the season Carlo’s squad got the wobbles bad. The previous season they were Champions.

Problem is when a team performs so well like Carlos Chelsea side did then its not easy to repeat the next season. We will see how City go this season I imagine well again with that team but a repeat of last season?

Sometimes sides tend to work teams out, or even players after a season. Not saying this will happen with City, but it is possible.

People are confusing counter attacking football with attacking football. Mourinho’s first team at Chelsea was built to play counter attacking football. They never dominated possession and kept teams in their own half. While it worked in that decade, the emergance of Pep and klopp and Sarri had made it outdated. When a team is an attacking team is when they dominate possession, goals, attempts. You can score 4 or 5 goals whilst counter attacking teams with 30% of the possesion. Pep’s City dominated teams on all aspects. Likewise Sarri’s Napoli was said to have played Similar football. So let is differentiate counter attacking football from attacking football first.

The Hammers doing a lot of transfer business early. 7 new signings so far with the possibility of more to come. Transfer record fee broken twice and spending over £100m for the first time! Peanuts to some of the “bigger” clubs but hopefully a statement of intent.

@wise-fan. In the World Cup final we saw France beat Croatia 4-2 with 34% possession, half the passes, and half the shots taken by Croatia.

In the semi against Belgium we saw similar stats – France had 34% possession.

I don’t agree that counter attacking football is “outdated”, it just requires the right mix of pace, clinical finishing, set piece preparation, and disciplined defensive shape. When one style of play trumps another it doesn’t follow that another style cannot work in my opinion.

Long story short, different strokes for different folks. Implementation is more important than chosen style of play.

I said it works as long as the team is winning. France the trophy at the end amd that is why no one is questioning their coach. Had they lost one game he would have been under pressure to resign. A good example of that is Klopp who is at Liverpool in his fourth season. In that period Liverpool have. Now nothing, but still he has the supporters on his side. And Mourinho and Conte who have won multiple tropies in England. Yet despite that they are under pressure. Football nowadays is morethan winning a trophy. The fans need to feel. Also there are certain aspects where counter attacking cannot work and where it can work. Belgium played football France choose not to play. Even players are avoiding counter attacking football. Flair players will not choose the Mourinhos, Contes of this world. They will be happy to play for other attacking coaches. We have only signed 3 flair players since 2013, and before that period we signed 6 before that. We failed to attract any world class player under Mourinho and Conte the only worl class player we got is Eden Hazard others are good signigs like Costa and Fabregas. And Hector and one defender from Nantes. Rudiger has the potential to develop in to one.

Pwrsonally i would rather see my team play attractive football and go out and match the opposition than camp in our half and wait for one moment to hit the opposition on the break.

That is fair enough however the trophy cabinet may well end up bare at least for a season. Obviously Abramovich agrees with you and that is why he appointed Sarri. If we can mix Sariball with top four finishes and the odd trophy I will be happy BUT we must still be sufficiently defensively prepared to enable us to compete with City for the title. A start will be the suits enabling Sarri to buy the right players to build the side to enable it to play Sarriball and that appears to have started in earnest. I have read a few reports that suggest Sarri’s coming will be Fabregas’s demise. Maybe Luiz might be a useful part of Sarri’s teams the way he plays. Time will tell and I think we are all looking forward to it. 999 they are showing Chelsea and Perth Glory live on SBS TV channel for us next Monday night at 9pm. Can’t wait. You may find Chelsea TV beaming it too.

1967, hopefully Sarri is given time and not just by the Board but by the fans too and there are no knee jerk reactions against him after 10 games if Chelsea aren’t top of the PL. Key as you rightly say is giving Sarri his head in the transfer market which seems to be happening.

A good season for me this season would be finishing 4th reclaiming our CL place and a Cup of some sort would be a very nice added bonus but that’s no easy task starting from where we are now with the uncertainties surrounding Hazard etc and a new Manager looking to find his feet in the PL a limited pre season with players returning late from the World Cup and the transfer window closing in less than 4 weeks.

Football is about balance between attack and defence and you need to be good in both areas to win the PL.

Pep recognised that which is why the majority of his transfer spend has been on defenders almost £300m culminating with the then record signing of Laporte at £57m and despite the anticipation of Sarriball I expect Sarri to look to apply the same sort of balance because scoring 4 but conceding 5 may be exciting but it doesn’t win you too much. But you know that as much as I do.😊 Cheers 999

Courtois to Real for 35m Euros being reported? If accurate hopefully Chelsea have another Keeper in the pipeline?

35m is nothing these days 9. Courtois is a top keeper who surely is worth more than that. You would have to spend a lot more on his replacement?!
