Still a long way to go, but Liverpool has been linked with Pedro Goncalves from Sporting Lisbon, currently top scorer in Primeira Liga, despite being a midfielder. Whether this link is true or not, Wijnaldum will have to be replaced if he leaves, so I’m sure the club is searching for possible replacements.

Add to that, Upamecano to partner Van Dijk, plus a game-changing attacker in the mould of Jota and that will strengthen all areas of the team.

Of course, there will have to be numerous outgoings to help fund such top quality players, and Liverpool has several such players to offload

    Likely To Leave
    Wijnaldum
    Shaqiri
    Origi
    Adrian

    Could Leave
    Milner
    Keita
    Ox
Phillips (if we keep both Kabak and Davies)
Salah (to fund Mbappe/Haaland/Sancho type deal)

    * Misc. others such as Grujic, Karius etc. to get off wage bill, slim down squad and balance out with existing squad/new signings.

The problem is, and I’ve mentioned this before, that not only do we have players that probably need to move on to less intense leagues, we also have players who’s contracts are running out and players who just arnt good enough.
However we have very little time to sort all these issues out.

There’s also a whole heap of players who’s contracts run out in 2023 so come this summer we are on the 2yr count down.

The powers that be weve heard are concerned with sell on values of players we bring in but we seemingly are happy for players to run down their contracts. It can’t be both.

There is no better time to start planning now for the future and also start moving subpar players out steadily. The players are aging and I firmly believe some is at their peak form and will start declining soon. Realistically, it is impossible to do so much in 1 window but if the club will want to continue challenging for trophies, we need to start now in order to mitigate the time needed for new players to break-in into the team.

As a start, players that I feel should be sold next window are similar to what Rob said: Matip (too injury prone), Keita (injury prone & not good enough) and Origi (not good enough). But given no clubs want an injury prone player, I have feeling that instead we will sell players like Mino and Origi and keep all our of injury prone players such Ox, Matip and Keita.

At the start of next season a center forward and a creative midfielder, both first-team worthy, are a must have. Given that we have already brought in two CBs, I dont think Liverpool will get another one unless something crops up (VVD not match-fit and miss the start of next season or Gomez is injured again). Some fit squad players would be nice but doubtful. Likely we will sign yet some youngsters from the lower league who we will never hear or see them ever again.

It’s too early to tell. We have yet to see the reaction from the team and we will see one, whether it’s 1 game from now or 8. The player who want to stay will show themselves and the ones who don’t, will likely be moved on by Klopp, if he still has a job by then.

    “and a creative midfielder”

So where does that leave Thiago?

I would think a first team CB will be the priority. Either of the two french lads from RBL for example. VvD is no1 of course but as everyone knows whilst good enough Matip is made from glass and in my opinion Gomez has regressed the last year or so before his bad injury.

I think the two CBs bought are merely a stop gap for this season.

    SHOULD LEAVE

    1) Keita
    2) Matip
    3) Origi
    4) R Williams (loan)
    5) Adrian

    COULD LEAVE
    1) Kabak/Davies depneding on many factors
    2) Milner due to age but I personally do not agree!!
    3) Phillips loaned to EPL team for gaining more experience…
    4) Wilson
    5) Grujic

So where does that leave Thiago?

Direct replacement for the role of Gini/Henderson, basically a No. 8. That is based on the assumption that Gini leave in the next window. We know Thiago is not going to play without injury for a full season which is why I feel having another creative/b2b mid would be a good idea. As of now, we dont even have a fit creative player who can play regularly. Keita was meant to be the missing puzzle piece for our midfield, 3 season later cannot even play for more than 25 games a season and in total not even a double figure in terms of goals and assists combined. Shaq, Ox and Jones have their limitation so they can continue warming the bench.

For CB position, I am putting my faith on the two new signing and hope they can be more than “merely a stop gap”. If Kabak stays for the long term, how is Klopp going to justify to splurge for a 50m pound CB after already acquiring 2 CBs. Even if Kabak leaves after the loan, next season we will have VVD, Gomez, Matip, Davies and even Fabinho (given how he had fared so far). I dont think the owners will spend a huge amount of money for a CB, period.

On the centreback issue, Matip needs to be phased out but I doubt it’ll be done this summer as who’s gonna buy him.
With VVD and Gomez there’s no guarantee both players come back the same player they were. There not even a guarantee both will be ready to play come Aug ‘21.
That leaves us with Davies who all we know about is that he’s played mid level c/ship football and Kabak who’s still quite young and still to feature.
IMO we need to buy another centreback this summer and we very likely will.

    Regards the other positions…
Midfield we’re very likely to lose the ever present Gini, Milner will be closing on his 36th birthday while Ox and Kieta remain injury concerns. Could be easily persuaded to sell either but again who’s buying.
Jury’s still out on Thiago for me. Absolute quality passer of the ball and very intelligent but I remain unconvinced he’s suitable for the high energy football we play and as he moves further into his 30s he will become less suitable.
IMO we need to buy another midfielder who can play high energy preferably someone around the 22-26 age range

Front 3… Mane and Salah still have a lot to offer, if they both stay, Firmino however I have reservations about as he’s been out of form for well over a year now despite positive blips here and there.
Jota looks a quality addition and Elliot certainly looks promising for the future.
I’d happily offload both Shaq and Origi to bring in a better, more suitable option for the bench and I could be persuaded to sell Firmino to help fund a more clinical central striker (Haaland, Mbappe etc). The Firmino move may not happen until the following summer tho as either Mbappe be available for free (monster wages) or Haalands clause comes into play.

Changes need to be made to this squad to freshen it up. More/different choices should have been made in the summer past.

Are other teams going to have the funds available to buy the players we will be looking to sell? Doubt it. So we would be looking at a big hit in terms of revenue from the likes of Origi, Shaqiri, Wilson, Grujic, karius and the like, who previously would have provided a good return.
You hope that this would have a knock on effect all through the market, lowering all player values….but it wont when Man City, PSG and Chelsea still exist and will continue to pay inflated prices for players because they can. So it looks like we will be second tier shopping again this summer. That’s fine if we get the right players……and if they then get played.
We need a replacement for Adrian, even with Kelleher stepping up to No.2 we need additional cover for Goalkeeper. Maybe Grabara will be good enough but I think we need a bit more experience to rely on.
We need a CB. Likely we keep Kabak unless he proves to be a disaster, but the financial deal on him is very good and he is likely only to increase in value substantially. We have no idea how Gomez and Van dijk return to us and Matip, if kept has to be considered at best 4th choice. No one will be looking to sign Matip in the summer anyway so he likely stays. I think we will go after one of the RBL boys but maybe Konate.
We will likely lose Gini. But Jones will see more game time. One of either ox or Keita may be moved on but I imagine we will be trying to sign a more industrious midfielder, maybe we circle back to Zieliński. But Thiago is likely the Gini replacement and it’s only because Fab and Hendo are being used in defence that Gini and thiago have played this much together.
We need to sell Origi, sure he will probably start banging in goals when he moves but I just dont ever see it happening here. I’d sell Shaqiri if we get a buyer and wilson. Jota should be that player to put pressure on the front three. Elliot should be used as cover for Salah and minamino as cover for Firmino. If Klopp decides that Minamino isnt up to it then he should be sold on but I think we would regret that because he is a real game changer when confidence is high. Rumours of Raphina from leeds could be a good option to go for. Any muted move for Mbappe would rely on either Salah or mane being sold and the only teams that could realistically be in for the money we would want are psg and Real. I dont think either would go to PSG for footballing reasons and I think Real are going to pull out the stops to get Mbappe. If we dont get top 4 minimum and put in a decent challenge to the Champions League landing any top targets gets tricky.

    IN:
    Konate
    Zieliński
    Raphina
    Kabak

    OUT:
    Origi
    Wilson
    Shaqiri
    Grujic
    Phillips
    Matip

Fulcrum, I’d rather konte then upamancano mate so good call there and raphfina is a quality player. Love watching him play

Such a pity about keita as he no doubt had talent but he’s injured far far to much

Not sure how we are going to spend in the summer.

We really to get some players out. To many injury prone and non effective backups in the squad at the moment

It’ s better to have 3-4 fit players, ready to offer their services instead of 9-10 injury prone, loaned to other teams or even players whom Klopp does not trust.

I don´t think we are going on a massive clearout but we are gonna need to find a really good player that can cope with a lot of games for Gini, Gini has played over 80% of all games since Klopp took over…

We got a few players entering into their last year next summer Milner, Adrian and Kelleher are all out of contract in 2022… Phillips is actually in his last year, he only got a contract for this season…

We got to prepare for 2023, thats when the majority of our big players become free agents… The front three, Van Dijk, Henderson, Keita, Oxlade, Shaqiri, Grujic, Wilson and Ojo all become free agents then… The latter six there have done nothing to justify their extended stay…

I would actually like to see Grujic for one full season…

Players who’s contracts that run out this season…
    Wijnaldum
    Philips
    Adrian
    Wilson
    Grujic
    Karius
    I’m sure there’s more youngsters/loanees

Contracts that run out in 2022…
    Milner
    Woodburn
    Kelleher
    Again, I’m sure there’s more

Contracts that run out in 2023…
    Salah
    Mane
    VVD
    Fabinho
    Firmino
    Kieta
    Henderson
    Oxlade Chamberlain
    Shaqiri
    Again there will be more

So not only do most of our first team run out of contract within the next 2yrs but also several squad players.

That’s a lot to sort out in only 3 windows and apparently we don’t have much money.
There’s also players who still have more than 2yrs left on their contracts that would need to be moved on like Matip and Origi, possibly Minamino.

Belated commiserations lads for Sunday I thought you competed well with City for longish periods of that game but the unfortunate Alisson errors swung the game back to City.

You’ve had a tough season and injuries aside you’ve been on full throttle under Klopp for three seasons now with pretty much the same players and it’s difficult for players to maintain that level of intensity.

You definitely need to freshen up the squad in the Summer how easy that will be with the current pandemic and its effect on football is open to conjecture, 50% less spent on transfers this season over last season across the whole of Europe tells us something and it makes it difficult to move players on my concerns for you would be that the owners seem to be reluctant investors in top players without they can sell big to help fund it.

You’ll be challenging for the title again next season with or without substantial investment imo but reclaiming the title might require some real investment in 2/3 high quality players especially if City strengthen again as seems likely.

Anyway Liverpool have been a great watch for us neutrals over the last 3 seasons and have added to the enjoyment of watching football so thanks for that.Cheers 9’s

That’s it nine mate. For me this season is all about top 4 and see how far we can go in the cl,

A lot of people wrote city off after a bad season last year. I knew it was just a blip as they were just outstanding in the previous two seasons.

We need to regroup in the summer. Get players back. I don’t get even some of our own fans writing off klopp. They compare it to klopps last season abd Dortmund and it’s nonsense. Dortmund lost a host of their players to Munich and they finished 7th

We have plenty of reasons for a blip this season. Not excuses as Keane says who changes his mind like the weather. No idea how anyone can question our players attitude. It’s not happening. No need to overreact.

We won the league for the 1st time in 30 years ffs. Mistakes have been made but support the club abd manager and stop throwing the toys out of the pram
