Martial is lazy and entitled. He’s a mini-Pogba. Best to let him go, if Simeone thinks he can make a star out of him then let him go. I’d take Gimenez in a direct swap nearly.
I’m all for buying the best in the world but we need to improve the overall squad as well so I’d look to get a few free agents in if possible too. I’d rather Vlahovic to Haaland purely because I’d rather we didn’t have to deal with Raiola. Plus, Vlahovic is doing well with a bang average Fiorentina squad while Haaland has been banging them in with a fairly strong squad around him in Germany and Austria.December 16, 2021 at 9:57 am #2031140Ah, the attack is ok, we just need a 100 million quid striker.
December 16, 2021 at 9:58 am #2031142Pogba’s a prick but he’s talented killy. Martial’s just a prick mate.
December 16, 2021 at 9:59 am #2031144We have a £100m striker, he’s just 36 years of age.
December 16, 2021 at 11:07 am #2031173Not in my wildest dreams can I picture Martial in a Simeone team!
December 16, 2021 at 11:17 am #2031176Can see him in an Eddie Howe team though, just like Solanke
December 16, 2021 at 12:49 pm #2031214We need to go out and get a £100m striker just like Chelsea did!
December 16, 2021 at 2:51 pm #2031253Lookey-lou? Money well spent. Would laugh if Spurs got him for Conte when Kane leaves and he starts banging them in again. Conte said back in October or something that Tuchel didn’t know how to get the best from him. Just goes to show how right he was…
January 4, 2022 at 12:35 pm #2037381There are people saying we need this player or these 2 players. Truth is, if we get a new manager in the summer. If he plays the modern game, we’ll need 5 to 6 new players in order for it to work. Bringing in a player or 2 isn’t going to cut it.
January 4, 2022 at 9:30 pm #2037654It took Klopp 18 months at Liverpool before he had a team, let alone a squad, he really wanted. And Liverpuddle were piss poor for stretches of that, especially until he had a pre-season with them. Early days with RR, anyone who expected overnight miracles is a lunatic
February 1, 2022 at 1:26 pm #2048835Jan is now over. For me, we have a huge summer coming up.
February 1, 2022 at 2:25 pm #2048885A lot of deadwood only gone on loan so will need to actively ship some of that out and allow some of the contracts that are running down to run out.
PLayers who should be allowed to leave on a free:
Lingard
Pogba
Grant
Mata
Cavani
Chong (although I think we have an option to extend there, he’s not on massive wages and seems to be doing well in Birmingham but if he got an offer of first team football I think he should leave).
Players whose contracts are up in 2023 and we should actively look to sell:
Shaw
Ronaldo
Matic
Heaton
Jones
Fred (although I think he has a place as a squad player, keep but need an upgrade, his best position for Brazil is Bruno’s and I don’t think anyone will displace him at the moment)
I’d look to keep DDG (Same contract as he’s on or less, he won’t get paid near as much anywhere else even if he goes on a free as he’s getting now)
Dalot is starting to look good so I’d keep him, new contract, slightly better terms, no promises regarding being first choice, earn it.
Am torn about Rashford tbh, would love to keep him but not sure he’s consistent enough to warrant the wages he’s on.
Greenwood is most likely gone, contract cancelled and a less than honoured guest of HMP Services.
We need to move Martial on also, hopefully he’ll tear it up in La Liga and we get a decent offer for him.
We need to get over the idea that if a player plays well on loan that we should keep him. If a player does well at a lesser team like West Ham or Sevilla having not done well for us before, it doesn’t mean he’s good now, it means he’s found his level.
I’d also look to sell AWB if we got an offer but can’t see it happening.
Based on those outs we’d need a new left back to compete with Telles, a new right back, a CB, two CM’s, two strikers.
Bear in mind Elanga is getting better, Mejbri, Shoretire are coming into the first team. Diallo might also move up if he plays well in Scotland which he seems to be doing.
So next year we’d have
GK – DDG, Henderson, Heaton
WB – AWB maybe, Dalot, Williams, Shaw, Telles
CB – Maguire, Lindelof, Varane, Jones (maybe), Bailly, Tuanzebe, Mengi
CM – McTomminay, Fred, Matic (Maybe), Mejbri
AM RLC – Bruno, Rashford, Ronaldo (maybe), Sancho, Elanga, Periera, Pellistri
St – None
As it stands we’ll have no out and out striker in the squad and our central defence will be the same along with a weakened midfield seeing as Pogba will be gone, Lingard will be gone and Mata and Matic should be gone as well. I know Rashford and Elanga can play as strikers but I think they’re more effective coming in from the wing.
As a priority this summer we need a CB, two CM’s and at least a striker….. holy fuck.February 1, 2022 at 2:55 pm #2048908Considering we need AT LEAST 4 incoming I wonder if the club will look at free transfers. Bringing in Rudiger and Kamara on free would save transfer budget for CM and CF
February 1, 2022 at 3:03 pm #2048915Just a thought. Now is the time to start working on summer transfers. How can we do that if we don’t have a manager in place. All of our top manager targets are currently in work so won’t be signed before May. By then it’ll be too late to work on summer transfers. How does the board square that one?
February 1, 2022 at 3:17 pm #2048919Homer – Surely Rangnick will have a say on transfers. So i imagine he will compile a list and then get the new manager to approve the ones he wants?
February 1, 2022 at 3:34 pm #2048934I think the plan is to announce the new manager in April/May towards the end of the season so players will k ow who they’ll be working with.
February 1, 2022 at 7:47 pm #2049019If there are players, get them in the summer. If they have a good World Cup their price will rise. Being honest we like paying over the odds.
February 2, 2022 at 8:57 am #2049116World Cup isn’t until December so that shouldn’t make a difference in the summer. We never/rarely buy in Jan anyway and when we do it’s generally no more than one player
February 2, 2022 at 9:28 pm #2049426Amad had a big test tonite for Rangers v Celtic.
Hooked at the break. Definitely not one that will feature for us regularly next season. If ever.Woodward is the toast of many an agent and chairman across the globe. The King is dead.
February 2, 2022 at 10:57 pm #2049447Celtic were far better in the first half, came roaring out of the blocks. Bit more even in the second half but Rangers never looked like scoring. Don’t think Hart was even pushed to make a decent save.
