In a better side he probably wouldn’t have turned over the ball so much either. On one side he’s been indicative of the state of things, moaning, giving out, waving his hands at the others, on the other side he’s probably been one of the best players which has been overshadowed by the negative side of our game. If he’s made the pivot of the midfield then he could be much better next season. If…..

Yep, agreed. Ronaldo probably would have scored a million goals in a Liverpool or City side as well. A quick defender and 2 amazing DM’s could really transform us next season and allow the likes of Sancho, Bruno and Ronaldo to shine.
    Oh and Greenwood…!

I don’t think Ronaldo would get picked in a Liverpool side, maybe City. The hope is that next year we should have a more organised side, with a very clear tactical plan which is something that we’ve obviously lacked this season. Players like Sancho and Fernandes should do better because there should be more players moving around them giving them outlets for their abilities. One of the problems I think Rangnick has had is that he has a very strict tactical vision, ETH does too but also relies on the players to go off plan if the opportunity arises.

Reckon these Milinković-Savić rumours are bollix. Smells like Lazio using our name to smoke out perspective buyers. We’ve been linked with him that long its almost up there with Gaitan or Sneijder.

I’d take him if he came but they’re asking a big fee given the reported transfer kitty of £100m. Although I’ve seen reports of £200m. Realistically we shouldn’t be spending more than about £30m per player and Liverpool have shown that it can be done. I think if the right player, like Nunez, became available the board would make extra funds available but that’s a big IF.

In fairness, Alisson, Konate, VVD, Kieta, Fabinho, Salah, Jota, Diaz all cost more than £30M. I think there is a bit of a myth about signing £30M young and hungry players. If it was that easy then a lot more clubs would be challenging for the league. The problem with that type of signing is that potentially 1 in every 5 might go on to be a top player. There is a level of player in between young up and coming and superstars that both City and Liverpool have exploited well. I think that is the level of player we need to look at in terms of the rebuild. Players in the 40M to 60M range. Longer term i agree we should be looking at much younger and cheaper prospects. Though i think Ole already tried that with the likes of Amad and Pelistri etc.

The reason Klopp does well with the signings in his price bracket range. He has a system set-up and buys players who’ll fit into that system. This is why his players more often then not hit the ground running. Our signings come into a team with no tactics or system. When the right players come into a ready made set-uo which suits them. It makes life so much easier for them.

I don’t think we can afford the £40-60m bracket at the moment with the reported budget of £100m. That would mean we’d only get two players in when we need possibly 4-5. We have to be looking at the cheaper end, for instance the CB for Rangers last night who played an amazing game for Rangers, Calvin Bassey, even Ndicka from Frankfurt who we could get for maybe £30-40m. We have to be really smart this summer, and maybe in January as well. If we get CL football next season, which is unlikely, then we can start to look at the £40-60m bracket again.

N1xer – Always found that narrative around Liverpool buying young and developing players fucking hilarious! Broke the world transfer fee for a defender and then a goal keeper! Obscene money on Keita as well.
    Hilarious!

Yeah but Alisson and VVD were the two signings that really made them as a team, whereas our record signings Pogba and Maguire have been questionable at best and completely shit at worst. It’s ok to spend that money on one or two marquee players who will make a very good team into a great team that will challenge for or win titles. We’ve spent that money and gone backwards.

I think the Liverpool argument is different as there is a notable difference in their record signings and ours in terms of the expectations of them. Allison is a great example, where he was the final piece in the jigsaw to bring a team to the top. They had a great side, they just needed that one player in the right position. Similar to Van Dijk, they had a good side, they just needed that leader of the defence. We didn’t have that. We bought Pogba hoping he would kickstart the whole rejuvenation of the squad, and we never gave him a real structure or system. Even today, if he played our last game we would have a chat about his best position – deep midfield, box-to-box, attacking, out wide? Who knows! Maguire was the same. We made a big splash and forgot about the players around him. He wasn’t the last piece of the puzzle – he was getting in the way of that. For all the big money Liverpool spent, and they have spend big, they bought well at the start – Robertson for £10m, Wijnaldum for £25, Matip for free… When was the last time we got a bargain? RVP?

Yeah, true. I still don’t think Liverpool are all that without Salah.

@killy, I think N’Dicka would be closer to £25 million. He and Timber would come in for less than the cost of Pau Torres and would allow us to move in AWB, Jones, Tuanzebe and Bailly

Ndicka just won the EL, think he’d cost a bit more than £25m on that basis. Frankfurt will be ripped apart this summer and they’ll want a premium

happyhurling, Salah’s goals and assists certainly have helped our case but he’s only scored three times from open play in three and half months (two of those against United:) and has scored in just one game in his last 14 matches.

During that time we won the League Cup, FA Cup, in the CL final and have took City to the last day of the season.

It’s way more than just Salah. We have a TEAM, unlike United.

Everyone knows that this season is 100% Sh*t, but it is also a blessing that we are having that! United is finally pushing the reset button with Ten Hag, he’ll show everyone who is patient enough, what kind of manager he is. He needs time to prove his vision for upcoming success, which won’t come next season, so we should be happy to play in the Europa League. That gives Ten Hag the focus on the team without CL football. Concentrating on winning the Europa League, what would provide access to the CL next season. Meaning the pressure is off to NEED to finish in the Top 4!

Nowadays top players want CL football who comes to the EPL, but EPL is tougher than they think. Look at Saul at Chelsea, a great player at Atl.Madrid, he’s nothing for Chelsea. That allows New players to adapt to the EPL to play in the Europa League.
Next season is building up, the season after, we need to show what we are worth!

I think Saul was in decline before he came to Chelsea though, Simeone wouldn’t have let him go otherwise. He became a man for all positions, Simeone couldn’t fit him in his first choice midfield so was playing him everywhere and anywhere to give him game time which wasn’t fair so he let him go

@killy, N’Dicka is heading into the final 12 months of his contract. He may cost over 25m but I’d be very surprised if it was any more than €40m
