RLC could go on and be massive for us next season. Fantastic potential which he is beginning to fully realise now.May 10, 2019 at 12:08 am #1750473
I think RLC will have a very big role to play next season. CHO much less as he has to recover first from his injury. Dunno when he will be ready, in September? He won’t have pre-season as well. The transfer ban will be upheld I think. So if I have to choose between Giroud and Higuain, both in their 30’s, I would choose Higuain. Giroud has a better play altogether but he never scores enough goals. And with Hazard gone (rumours say that he is already looking for a house in Madrid and a school for his kids), we need a goalscorer. Higuain on the contrary looks lazy (or is lazy?) but his movements, beating the offside trap, his finishing too, are good. With the pre-season, he will form more understanding with other players.
Kovacic, I am really not a fan but I think he was massive against Frankfurt. If Hazard leaves, I think it’s better for us to take him from Madrid. At least, he can be a squad player for us.May 10, 2019 at 8:20 am #1750512
RLC looked totally pissed off last night when he was taken off and quite rightly so IMO. He is getting stronger and stronger with every game and his decision making on the pitch is improving the more he plays. He is saying himself that his overall fitness and back problems are being well managed which is allowing him to play back to back games for the first time in a long while and he is relishing his opportunities and he was quoted the other day as saying “Why should I leave”
As a team we do need consistency but the second half against Watford where we had Jorginho, Kante and RLC on the pitch looked like one of the best midfield combinations I have seen all season and feel that is who we could easily look to start with for most games next year. Kovacic and Barkley plus potentially Mount could then make up the back up. KTBFFHMay 10, 2019 at 10:13 am #1750552
Should not extend Luiz’s contract. His trying to portray a Mr. Cool Harry Casual at the back, you just cannot do that. It also influences other defenders including the keeper to do the same.May 10, 2019 at 12:24 pm #1750595
Clearly Sarri likes Luiz which is why he has proposed the contract extension and personally I think this make Luiz feel “comfortable” and ultimately this is impacting his game. Agree he likes to come across as cool, he loves to wave his arms as if no one is making enough movement for his killer ball but mostly his killer ball is wayward anyway
Don’t get me wrong, he has the ability and can play long balls very well but recently I think he has become too cocky. We all know that he is prone to rash challenges and also, when was the last time you saw him take a decent free kick on target…? KTBFFHMay 10, 2019 at 3:03 pm #1750640
Free kicks. Set pieces. Corners. Good points 1905! We need that. We don’t have good takers except Willian. Remember every time Frank stepped up, we knew that the action would be dangerous. Either he swung the ball, either he shot, whatever. There would be chances created. I don’t have that impression anymore with our corners or free-kicks.May 10, 2019 at 4:03 pm #1750648
To be fair, I cannot believe how poor all our set pieces are and even basic crosses in open play. We do not seem capable of beating the first man and if we do no one carries the presence or threat of a JT/Ivanovic for instance. Baffles me…? KTBFFHMay 10, 2019 at 4:14 pm #1750651
We always have big players who could score from set-pieces.
Mou part 1: JT, Carvalho, Gallas. With a small RB in Paulo Ferreira.
And later on: JT, Cahill, Iva. With a small LB in Ashley Cole.
Of course there are, in between, big CB like Alex or relatively big RB like Azpi.
Now we have more than that to be honest. All 4 backs are more or less big: Luiz, Rudiger, Azpi and Alonso. All should be capable of posing threat on our corners or free-kicks. Luiz and Rudiger have scored from corners this season. Alonso must have too this season or last season.
What’s different for me is:
1) of course the taker. Lamps was the best.
2) Striker. Drog and Costa were always dangerous in corners; they scored from corners or free-kicks. But Morata, Giroud, Higuain are not.May 10, 2019 at 8:10 pm #1750709
Depressing news re transfer ban for 2 windows but I must reflect on the amount wastage of buying players and won’t use them for one reason or another.I know we are our own worst enemies failing to have any prolonged continuity with any decent Manager, present manager excluded!.I’m sorry but Sarri doesn’t inspire or exude confidence. The players we have waiting in abeyance coming back from loan are Zouma,T Hazard,T Chalobah,Musonda,Batshuay,Abrahams,Moses,Morata,Bakayoko,Pulisic,Tomori,T.Kane,Aina,Mount,Pasalic,Hector,Miazga,Brown,Kalas…no doubt we have more players which I haven’t mentioned.Sarri insists that if transfer ban is enforced we can dip into the above for at least 3 players and still remain competitive for league and Europe!.I think he’s having a laugh!.Which are the 3 players from those above is Sarri considering I wonder that will make all the difference?.Eden is gone,Cahill is gone,Pedro and Willian not the force they once was,Kante is still played out of position to accomodate Jorginho in ‘sarri ball’,Azpi is knocking on,Luiz and Alonso are just not solid enough as defenders Higuain on loan to us is not the player he once was,Kovacic also loaned to us hasn’t had the desired impact.Yeah,ok,Sarri has achieved his remit in his first season and so will be allowed to carry on as we just about made it Champs.Lge and we stumbled into final of EL last night but let’s not kid ourselves we were a roaring success because of him.Sarri is too stubborn and set in his ways.Got a feeling it’s going to be more of the same next season.May 10, 2019 at 8:34 pm #1750714
Luiz signed 2 years of extensionMay 15, 2019 at 6:44 am #1751981
Most wiser Chelsea fans are not too worried about the transfer ban, if you look at the new talent available and at no fee, Abraham, Tomori, Caulter, Reece, Mason and more even better than these but still a bit young plus Pulsic and what we already have as regulars, obviously some players will have to released or sold. You allowed to sell in the ban window just not able to buy.May 15, 2019 at 7:31 am #1751994
While I am quite sure that some of the loanees will be given a chance I am far from convinced that there will be a lot of radical changes and some of the older experienced loanees, such as Zouma, are equally as likely to be bought into the first team squad. KTBFFHMay 15, 2019 at 7:44 am #1751999

Think you’re right 1905 but whoever comes into the squad depends on whether the ban sticks or not.
The Club you would hope will have a Plan A for rejuvenating the squad with no ban which might also include loanees and young players and a Plan B for doing the same but just with loanees and young players if the ban sticks.May 15, 2019 at 10:37 am #1752062
Not sure where we stand regarding Higuian and Kovacic if the ban is upheld, as I’ve read conflicting reports on whether we can sign them or not. But if a ban means those two are off the table then I’d take the ban in a heartbeat!May 15, 2019 at 10:44 am #1752067
Have to wonder which of our loanees would make the first team. I can only think of a couple…Zouma and Tammy Abraham. Bakayoko started off slowly but is now having a great season at Milan. However could he displace the likes of Kante, Jorg, RLC and Barkley? Probably not. Morata hasn’t exactly been scoring for fun at Atletico but it may be worthwhile to recall him for preseason to see how he gets on. However Abraham gets the nod ahead of him…I believe he’ll get even better when he returns to Chelsea. That winning penalty for Villa in the shootout took balls and required nerves of steel. Skill, power and BMT. Shades of the Drog perhaps 🙂
That lad on loan at Wigan ..Reece James is it?, he’s a real talent but is he ready to start at Chelsea? The same question could be asked of Tomori…is he better than our current CB and RB options?
Mason Mount has done really well at Derby but he’s nowhere near RLC. He’s behind Barkley as well. Not sure he’d get much game time.
Theres enough loanee talent to replace the deadwood that needs moving on at Chelsea….if the ban sticks. However it’s certainly not enough to massively improve what we ready have, bearing in mind that we are resigned to losing the world class Eden Hazard.
For us to close the gap on City and Liverpool we will need this ban to be overturned and will require investment in 2 to 3 top top players. A striker and full back are our biggest need…in my humble opinion.May 15, 2019 at 11:37 am #1752100
Bakayoko? Not for me, cash in…
I’ve been saying for about 12 months we should be in for wan bissaka at palace before the legend that is mighty palmbs said about recce James.
If he’s good enough he is old enough. Wan bissaka has held his position down for two seasons at palace from 18 years old. Could james do the same… most probably.
I think the midfield is very strong. We need to add one player, youth imo who could step up. Is that mount? Not sure yet.
We have said very little about michy the batman. While on loan he’s outscored in league terms, giroud, morata, higuain. He’s more effective in front of goal than both Willian and Pedro in half a season… Yes, he looks clumsy at times, but he knows where the net is, but is his hold up play strong enough. He scored goals against teams we’ve struggled to score against since coming back to the premier league. I’d say he should be a shoe in for next season with Tammy and giroud as an impact sub. Unless the club go out and sign a Greizman type for the role.
Think between Willian, cho and Pulisic we’re going to be a threat. Love to see Tammy given the season as a number two. Just think he’d help Callum settle and link up well with rlc.
The general trend with rivals has been to add pace. Lots of it, we don’t have that ability yet as hazard, Pedro and Willian have all slowed up this season. Age being the crucial factor here.
For Saris system to work, we need new fullbacks with pace. I’d move Dave into central defence when Cahill goes… use him and Christiansen next season alongside Luiz.
Just think this side is crying out for fresh legs with hunger… if we can do that I’ll be happy regardless of who is manager.May 15, 2019 at 12:25 pm #1752129
If we are forced to rely on what we have already then what Luiz had to say I like:
David Luiz: “We’ve top-class players and we have good young players. Ruben has had the best season of his career. Callum was doing amazing until his injury. This is a talented generation at Chelsea and I believe in them. I love players like Reece James, and Abraham and Mount.”May 15, 2019 at 1:17 pm #1752148
So, it is the same names being bandied about regardless of which thread we are on. We certainly appear as though we do have talent and that if there is a ban then we can bolster the squad but is that really going to enough if the other teams we are competing against (or hope to be) go and spend even more money
I do not think we need great changes in the squad but I honestly believe that we have to go out and buy a striker who can score 20+ goals in a season, every season
Reading today that Sarri is to be sacked due to his poor relationship with the fans and if that is the case then a new manager starts from scratch again and who is to say that they would favour RLC over Kovacic for example or simply be brave enough to add some of the loanees to the squad when you assume they will have targets to meet like any new manager at Chelsea…? Get Icardi with the £100m that we may get for Hazard. that guy can guarantee us 30 goals a season. and let Giroud join whichever club he wants, send Higuain back to Juventus. bring back Abraham to deputize for Icardi. in that way he can more game time and can learn from him. I think two strikers will be enough for us.
Get Ben Chilwell from Leicester. he is solid defensively with loads of pace. and has the added advantage of being English and homegrown. I’m afraid City may nick him. keep Emerson to deputize for him and sell Alonso to the highest bidder. get an out and out right back and bring back Reece James to deputize for him.
I don’t think if we need another CM at the moment. send Kovecic back to Madrid. and bring back Mount to take his place on the team. with 4 wingers of Pedro, Willian, Pulsic and CHO I will be tempted to add Nicolas Pépé and sell Willian as he seems to have started to decline. sell him while he has some value. our problem is sorted in that way.May 15, 2019 at 4:08 pm #1752210
Icardi sounds a like a great idea. He is a proven goalscorer. But is he good enough in the hold up? We need a striker who can score but also who can hold the ball. Drogba, Costa were able to do so. Just checked wikipedia, he hasn’t won any major trophy. It will be good to have someone hungry for trophies. Us Chelsea, we like winning trophies. Recently, the only years we did not win a trophy since 2010 were 2013-2014 and 2015-2016 I think, Mou part 2.
