Gomes is off then. Honestly don’t think he’s good enough, never seen anything in him when he has played for us. Can’t see him suddenly turning into a world class player – but who knows. Good luck to him.
June 29, 2020 at 11:08 am #1852558I might be in a group of one here but I don’t rate Traore. He’s strong and has loads of pace but I don’t see much more to him. Our left backs are regularly criticised and yet they’ve had him in their pocket for every match this season, so much so that Nuno played him on the other wing in one of the matches and he did f all there too! We don’t need another 1 dimensional winger, we need someone like Sancho who has a trick or two to open up a defence that sits deep.
June 29, 2020 at 11:37 am #1852569I agree with @hookeddevil. Traore is quick and strong but offers little else. He’d offer nothing new and we need a lot better if we want to move forward. Don’t get me wrong, the lad is a good fit for a club fighting for a Europa League place but we should be aiming higher.
June 29, 2020 at 1:52 pm #1852619Traore is just run at 100mph. If we want to progress we have to look beyond shite like Traore and the other guy from Villa.
June 29, 2020 at 2:55 pm #1852651So it’s settled. We don’t want Traore or Grealish. I’ll message Ed 😉
P.s. I actually agree neither player is good enough to improve us
June 29, 2020 at 3:01 pm #1852653I think Traore would improve us, but not as much as Sancho. But yeah i’m not a Grealish fan.
June 29, 2020 at 4:35 pm #1852681We need players who can take us to the next level, not just to make sure we stay exactly where we are. There’s absolutely no sense in buying players who don’t improve the the team. Maguire and Wan-Bissaka improved the time (despite still having plenty of room for improvement themselves) and James was just a punt who isn’t ready for this level (probably never will) but Bruno Fernandes was, hands down, the best signing we’ve made since RVP (who was only a short-term buy) and will be the man this team is built around for the next 5-6 years.
June 29, 2020 at 5:19 pm #1852687Roy – Agree. I think the core of the team for the next few years will be built around Rashford, Bruno & Greenwood and hopefully Pogba.
June 29, 2020 at 5:20 pm #1852688@roygbiv agreed (I think). Players who will either take us to the next level or young players who have the potential to make that step up.
I’m happy signing players like Dan James so long as they are not on high wages. The key then is selling them after 2 or 3 years if they haven’t met the required standard.
The lower the wages they are on the easier to shift them and the higher the transfer fee we will get for themJune 29, 2020 at 6:16 pm #1852692Just saw an article saying that United have the youngest average squad in the league at an average age of 25.2… next closest are Chelsea with 25.8. Liverpool and Man City are 14th and 16th respectively with 27.2 and 27.7.
Our older players in the squad are ones that don’t really play a part: Grant at 37, Romero at 33, Mata at 32… Ighalo is 31 but will only be with us until December when he will probably be replaced by someone significantly younger.
The spine of our team is a good mix of youth and experience going into their best years:
– De Gea is 29 which is not old for a goalkeeper
– Maguire and Pogba are 27
– Fernandes is 25
– Martial is 24
– Rashford and AWB are 22Most of our complimentary players are of good age too:
– Fred, Bailly, Lindelof and Shaw are 27, 26, 25 and 24 respectively
– McTominay, James, Tuanzebe, Chong, Dalot, Williamns and Greenwood are all Under 23s
– The only player who’s close to the first team and on the old side is Matic at 31.If we sign someone like Ndidi (22) to replace Matic and get Sancho (20) to replace Lingard (27) and then get rid of the likes of Jones (28), Rojo (30) and Sanchez (31) and bring in just one youthful centre back (maybe someone like Upamecamo (20)) we’re looking at a very good and youthful side that can grow together for another 2 to 3 years at the very least.
June 29, 2020 at 8:47 pm #1852723I agree about Grealish, and would add Maddison too, save the money and go for Sancho instead.Stay well clear of K2 as well,he will be 30 soon,I believe.
June 29, 2020 at 9:54 pm #1852740It doesn’t look like anyone is overly bothered that Gomes is leaving and I’m sure he would have been involved more if he actually had a chance of making it. Being a promising youth player doesn’t mean you’ll be able to make that huge step up and Gomes has not shown he has what it takes. He’s more than a year older than Mason Greenwood but looks to be way behind him so it’s probably best for him to leave. Chelsea and Juventus have been mentioned but he won’t get any game time there so I predict his career will be a severe case of “what if…”
June 30, 2020 at 12:33 am #1852755Koulibaly is an interesting one. Obviously going on 30 he’s not worth anywhere near the money being quoted but just imagine him lining up alongside any one of Maguire, van Dijk or Laporte. It would easily be the best CB partnership in the league.
It’s just a shame Tuanzebe and Bailly have had injury issues as they both have the potential to be a good partner for MaguireJune 30, 2020 at 9:20 am #1852784Roy – I saw someone say he could have looked at McTominay as an example, you sign a deal and then break into the first team. Perform well and then you get a nice shiny new contract! Something else must be going on behind the scenes.
Although i guess this also highlights another issue of the club, once again, letting players run down their contracts…June 30, 2020 at 10:38 am #1852816Thoughts on Donny van de Beek as we are being linked with him?
June 30, 2020 at 10:50 am #1852824Joe Hugill (FW) will be joining us this summer and lots of rumours that we’ll complete the signing of Jurado (RB) from Barcelona also: both 16 years old so more than enough time for them to develop.
If Gomes doesn’t want to fight for his place and his contract then no problem – he can go and try his luck at another club. But if he thinks he’s going to find game time at Chelsea then he’s sorely mistaken, especially with Ziyech and Werner coming in and Pulisic and Mount already doing well there.
June 30, 2020 at 10:57 am #1852827I reckon Gomes has seen the impact of Fernandes who plays in his position and realises he has no chance of getting a look in. Equally, if Pogba was to stay then its even more remote him getting game time. I also think Utd are not offering these kids massive deals and they are getting better money elsewhere. Why would he go to Chelsea is another matter. Cannot see him getting any game time there either.
The same goes for Grealish. Why would we be in for him when we badly need a right winger and striker. It kind of made sense when the talk was that Pogba was off and we could get him on the cheap. But now for £80M? And he’ll struggle to get in ahead of Fernandes. The papers just make this shit up.
June 30, 2020 at 3:29 pm #1852948van de Beek you ask? Very good, cultured midfielder. Can play no. 10 or deep lying playmaker. Think pre covid asking price was 50 million may well be available for under 40 million. I’m convinced Lingard will be gone this summer. If we managed to punt Pereira, vdB would be a massive improvement and give us good depth in midfield
@sympathy, seems to finally be a concrete plan at the club.
Hugill takes Greenwood’s place in the U23’s while Jurado allows Laird to be sent out on loan for the season before taking over from Dalot at AWB’s deputyJune 30, 2020 at 6:36 pm #1852995Tchong and Gomes are not United material.
Greenwood on the other hand can be something special.
Before Sancho i had Pulisic as our right winger not the least when he couldnt find his feet at Chelsea. Now he has found his feet i dont think Chelsea will sell him.June 30, 2020 at 7:34 pm #1853016Sane going to Bayern for 55 million? Crazy money for a player going into the final 12 months of his contract
