Ok we’ve broken the forum again…
Hard to know if our delay at bringing in new players is a result of failure to offload deadwood or Ed thinkng if he leaves it till the last minute clubs will drop their asking price.
This may save us a few million but will no doubt result not only in us missing out on players but the window closes. It will also cost us PL points as any player joining towards the end of the window an having to quarantine for 14 days will have missed at least the first 4 PL games
September 20, 2020 at 12:47 pm #1876364If Woodward gets £30m from Spurs for Lingard, all is forgiven.
September 20, 2020 at 12:48 pm #1876365My take from pg. 99 before the thread spilled onto pg. 100….
Goalkeeper – serious issue with DDG who is absolutely done of it and needs ousting
Left Back – Shaw has proven he is top 6 material at best but nothing more (no goals, no assists) while Williams is a right footed, hard tackling gutsy lad but not a future left back
Centre half – 7 on the books (9 if you include Big Tim who is not really a full back and young Tedi), 4 perma injured (Jones, Eric, Axel, Marcos) 2 as slow as snails (Victor and Harry) and 1 in form, Smalling, who club and self want away
Right back – AWB can defend but is struggling badly as he can’t attack and doubly so as there is no decent/natural right winger he can work with, centre half Tim out of position more comfortable than 50m man in specialist position says it all
Right Wing/Attacking slot on right – James is c’ship standard at best while Greenwood is a future striker, nit ready yet but will play every game niw as there are no alternatives
Defensive Midfield – Key position to stop opposition attacks and to start our attacks but Matic finished 2 years ago (despite new contract), McTominay does not have the skillset and others like Pogba harm us more than the opposition
Central midfield/attacking midfield – have 3 players in Pogba, Bruno and VDB who all thrive further up the park so balance is wrong, compounded now by having the redundant Mata and Lingard on the books instead of selling these and buying a different type of midfielder
Left midfield/attacking slot on left – Part time footballer Rashford can play as bad as he has been playing for months without fear of losing his place because we have no options here and no left backs on this flank offering a threat
Centre Forward – Ighalo clearly not good enough and recognised by Ole, who extended his contract nonetheless, Martial hot and usually cold, the sunshine type and like Rashy can regularly not perform but expect to keep his place as there are no viable alternatives.
Just my tuppence worth on the poor and unbalanced first 11.
September 20, 2020 at 2:01 pm #1876385Red exile, no chance we’ll get over 10 million for Lingard and even if we did it would still be a rubbish window. If we really are in for Telles, there is no excuse for not having the deal completed 3 weeks ago with the player fully settled in and ready to start yesterday
September 20, 2020 at 2:22 pm #1876393Just watching Brighton at Newcastle, and the lad Lamptey that Brighton bought from Chelsea for 3 million looks twice the player AWB is. That’s our problem, constantly paying kings ransoms for shite when there are bargains out there – if only our scouts’d get off their overpaid arses and find them.
September 20, 2020 at 2:27 pm #1876395I would make an initial offer £25m and then add Lingard for Alli. Alli probably needs a change of scenery, Mourinho is a cont so wouldn’t blame Alli for his poor form. Max £40m plus Lingard as they are doing us a favour.
September 20, 2020 at 2:35 pm #1876400Can Alli play centre half? Would that leave us with 4 players qishing to play the advanced midfield role?
@JM, thought Lamptey was v good first day out too.
Christ we are sitting on 1 expensive and overpaid pile of shite, with Ed playing around with it, using a miniature platic fork.
This season already looks like the end of the Ole cycle when we finish outsid the top 4 and then back to square one….
September 20, 2020 at 2:59 pm #1876404No way should we get Alli – overrated is all he is.
Telles for 15m
Upamecamo for 50m
Sarr for 30m
Cavani on a freeSell whatever deadwood we can
That’s the only way we can compete for Top Four.
September 20, 2020 at 3:03 pm #1876405JM – Not sure why you’re calling out AWB Today. If he plays that game yesterday we probably don’t concede the 1st and 3rd goals.
September 20, 2020 at 3:45 pm #1876417Er, because I’ve watched regularly since we bought him and I think he’s shite happy. That do yer?
September 20, 2020 at 3:53 pm #1876419Ha ha, fat Luke says we need reinforcements. Yeah Luke, starting with a left back mate.
September 20, 2020 at 3:54 pm #1876420Then a right back happy 😂😂
September 20, 2020 at 3:56 pm #1876422You’re right about Potter Zico, very competent manager. And I see your mate Bielsa’s being linked.
September 20, 2020 at 4:02 pm #1876425Sympathy-I agree re Alli, overrated as fuck,as if we dont have enough of em playing for us.
September 20, 2020 at 4:10 pm #1876431moral-Only Williams,Greenwood,Bruno,Dony and Rashford shouldnt be up for sale-the rest are all disposable.
September 20, 2020 at 4:26 pm #1876438It’s a damning fact that our 2 most expensive signings are utterly dependent on us buying the “right players” to make up for their glaring weaknesses. When you pay the amount we did for Pogba and Maguire you’d expect them to be the backbone of any team but both of them provide more problems than solutions.
Saying “they didn’t have time to prepare” is also an insult. They’re professionals and should always be prepared. True, their summer holidays were shorter than usual because of the pandemic but how many front-line workers had to cut their holiday short and work under severe pressure day in day out? That’s my reality, at least, so hearing these overpaid primadonnas complain just makes me angry.
The players, coaching staff, scouts, executives and owners are all letting this once great club down and that’s a fact. It’s not just my sentimental reaction to a bad performance/result because it won’t be a one off. Expect a lot more performances/results like this in the coming weeks, months and years because this is where Glazer’s United are at. Frankly, they don’t deserve any better but we, the supporters definitely do.
September 20, 2020 at 4:37 pm #1876443moral….so basically its get rid of everyone except DVB and Bruno and start again….i like it…a cunning plan!
