Sympathy for the DevilsParticipant
@happyhurling – you are right mate however, given how he continues to select Fellaini and then brings on Lingard rather than Rashford or Martial worries me that he really doesn’t know what’s going on. he has failed incredibly in the big matches so far this season but Arsenal, although good, have been a team that we’ve gotten the better of even when we were at our weakest so there’s that positive to think about.

Interesting comments from Mourinho after the game about some players showing a lack of character and commitment. I think that’s something a lot of us have been saying for a while. Seems a bit high risk to me. Could back fire and blow up in his face spectacularly. Telling players to their face what is required is one thing but managing the whole thing via the media could cause problems. It was also interesting that he said it was not only certain players but the people in the club around them! Was that a dig at the medical dept? With us playing so shit at the moment, i am not sure an internal battle between Mourinho and players/staff is what we need.November 7, 2016 at 10:33 am #1307040
IKA – Yes, extremely frustrating at times!
Sympathy – I think he’s just taken Rashford and Martial out of the firing line for now. Neither have been in great form recently (although neither have the players they’re replaced with!) and both need a bit of a rest by the looks of it. He’s still looking for that perfect midfield balance and it looks like Carrick might be key to that. If he can allow Pogba the creative freedom to get forward then we’ll see goals like the cracker he scored at Swansea more times this season.
I’m not trying to say everything’s great and we’re a great time (we’re clearly not yet), but if we beat Arsenal then we’re right back up there for the top 4 places and who knows after that. Cheers.November 7, 2016 at 11:23 am #1307181
First half was a soft training session with instructions to the Swansea team putting on the white vests and let United play a possession game without pressing them.
This was a LVG game and a game suited for Carrick as orchestrator and he did it good.
Second half was a different story,Swansea played a possession game in our half and if one didnt know it before thats our weakness not the least when Carrick is playing.
Yes,Swansea was in for the taking but so was United and if Swansea had a slightest confidence with a different approach to the game like pressing and playing in our half we would have struggled yet again because Mourinho fielded a slow possession side who are allergic to pressing.
Our 37M midget was awful and i dont understand why Fellaini was on the pitch.
Mourinho said he was our balance player but i couldnt see a thing he did right.
Nevertheless, good to see some goals again,Pogba´s was mouthwatering and Ibra´s was good for his confidence.
This lineup though is something you cant field against Arsenal, they will kill us.
Another international break,sigh.November 7, 2016 at 11:57 am #1307253
Don’t understand the criticism of some players on here. Results are generally better when players like Mata, Carrick, Rooney and Young start yet they are the first to be criticised if the result or performance is below par. Surely we can’t be getting results if these lot are simply passengers in a game and we don’t win because of them, we win in spite of them.
Mata has started 11 games and we’ve won 8 of them. Only won 2 of 7 without him.
Carrick has started 5 games and we’ve won all 5. Only won 5 of 13 without him.
Rooney has started 10 games and we’ve won 7 of them. Only won 3 of 8 without him.
Young has only started 3 games but we won 2 and the other one was the draw against the Scousers.
They are the only 4 players that average over 2 points per game.November 7, 2016 at 1:04 pm #1307388
@MT fair point but i wouldnt include young and rooney in your list? Young had a decent game agaisnt Liverpool because he was asked to play as a second fullback not a winger. Rooney hasnt done anything all season and the swansea game (1st half) was his best performance because they let us play. Second half bit of pressure different ball game.
Agree on MATA he is one of our best players but i dont know why people slate him so much. The common reasoning is he is too slow and weak.
Pirlo, Xavi, Busquets, Kroos, silva arent exactly electric footballers but they got the footballing brain and skill to control a game. Thats what Mata offers. I think people just expect midfielders to run around across the pitch sliding into tackles and getting stuck in
Agree that carrick probably is our best option as the man to control the midfield. Personally i would rotate carrick and bastian in that num 6 position as they are the only ones who can really control the game. herrara IMO is not that type of player. For whatever reason Jose just doesnt fancy Basitan which means he has to play carrick more often.
However if we go with fellani and carrick as our midfield agaisnt arsenal along with pogba, i dont think thats going to end well.November 7, 2016 at 1:23 pm #1307418

@manthistle – In general, as I was referring to the team as a whole. At this rate, I’ll probably have Carrick in every lineup, and that says a lot.November 7, 2016 at 2:46 pm #1307595
manthistoe rooneys shit.so is carrick. pussy who ducked down when robben acored in 2010. pussy!November 7, 2016 at 2:49 pm #1307598November 7, 2016 at 2:54 pm #1307607
Pathetic over rated player.November 7, 2016 at 3:04 pm #1307622
Sympathy for the DevilsParticipant
@fergiesarmy – errrr he didn’t duck out of the way – on the contrary he tried to slide in to get a block in. OK he didn’t calculate well at all but at least he rushed Robbern to get some pressure on him.November 7, 2016 at 3:05 pm #1307625
It was the quarters finals and United were playing with 10 men because of Rafael’s immaturity. Do you still have sleepless nights over it? Why not blame Evra for his mistake in the 1st leg?November 7, 2016 at 4:15 pm #1307757
I love it when you put an argument forward and and substantiate your statement with stats & information and the response you get is “he’s shit”. So you’re basically saying you don’t agree with my observation but have no way to counter it. well done.November 7, 2016 at 4:18 pm #1307766
Ducked? Good one! Credibility at rock bottom after that shockingly glaring observational error.November 7, 2016 at 4:34 pm #1307784
rs83 – I agree that after 3 games its tough to judge Young’s influence. I’m just pointing out some stats really. We can argue that Rooney is past his best but we can’t argue that results are better with him in the team. It was the same case last year so we can’t argue that its a case of him playing weaker opposition, etc. I think Rooney’s best position in the starting 11 would be wide right or left with Mata, Zlatan or Mykhitaryan in the no.10 role.November 7, 2016 at 5:08 pm #1307841
Carrick seems to have more life than a cat,at least from his apologists.
AS i have said countless times,he is real good at dictating the game when not pressured. A complete different story when pressured. Good to have against shellshocked teams like Swansea but there are not many teams like Swansea.
In the second half we saw a Carrick making more mistakes just because of Swansea lifting the whole team further up the pitch. But overall he was one of our best players last night.November 7, 2016 at 5:38 pm #1307865
Let’s be fair carrick has been ok in the games he has played but don’t get carried away like he makes a huge difference, 2 of them were against europa league opposition at home and one agains city reserves i think.. What really makes the difference for us is the 3 man midfield and jose should stick with this rather than changing the formation every other game. The is the formation to get the best out of pogba who we should be building the team around him. and also it give our defence extra protection. Let’s be honest they need the protection.
Once herrera is back he slots in fellainis place and carrick can rotate with someone else. The 3 up front are key and apart from Ibrahimovic the rest are not automatic picks and playing with no confidence whatsoever atm.November 7, 2016 at 6:26 pm #1307889
I’m with fergiesarmy, yeehaah!November 7, 2016 at 7:30 pm #1308006
BigRooney – No one is getting carried away with Carrick mate. But, in case you didn’t notice, our midfield has been pants. We’ve not found the right balance and as a result have made the most expensive player in the world look shite. Now, we get Carrick in and he makes us play better and the world’s most expensive player is also playing better. So please forgive us all for enjoying the fact that we’re playing better with Carrick in the team!!
