The main problem DM has at the moment is how to get the best out of Barnes as he’s the one player who doesn’t look more comfortable in the new formation. We need someone wide left now Gibbs is part of a back four but Harvey’s flare is being suffocated now he’s playing as a more conventional winger. Maybe a role like Eden Hazard’s could be more fruitful.

He had a poor game last night but he wasn’t alone. Quite how HRK can be selected above Gayle escapes me. Their respective goal ratios do not lie. I think Barnes is OK where he is but the key for him is quick ball out of defence. We did this very well against Leeds, pretty well at Ipswich but last night it was a return to faffing around at the back with no one in midfield to pick up the ball from the back four and find a runner. When golden boy did get the ball he was invariably marked by a couple of defenders and often with no passing option available. Even so he might still have secured the points with a deserved third goal.

I thought Morrison was really poor – just a shadow of the player he once was and he holds the position we need to fill with a younger, more creative player. We have nothing better in the current squad but hopefully Father Christmas will deliver a late present in January at which point we should also unload much of the dross taken on board. The defence is certainly stronger for the move to a back four but young legs seem to dance through our midfield game after game and I see it as a clear priority. I’m pretty sure the coach doesn’t agree!

DH , I agree with you about a creative link-up (point guard type) player.

Why not Foden, on loan? He needs to play and there are not enough opportunities to do so at City, at the moment.

Otherwise, I would take a shot with Jonathan Osorio, of Toronto FC: a super little player who the fans would love.

I think it fair to say that Toronto players are pretty unknown to us over here but the few MLS highlights I do get to watch suggests that the standards are rising so maybe the scouts are taking a little more interest these days? Foden is a great shout but I think the prospects are slim and if he goes anywhere it will probably be to a Prem club. I like young Field among our own squad but he seems not to have the pace needed which is a shame. I just hope that someone is out there looking!
