It’s very odd, there’s the usual banter and bullshit on the General Football and a few of what’s left of the Premier League pages but there is nothing whatsoever on the Non-Football page about this serious corona virus epidemic. I wonder why.
Could it be that theoretical half-baked football banter that’s always open to interpretation is the only way forward on here? Does anyone give a flying fart about what’s happening in the real world?
If not, then Teamtalk might just as well pull the plug on this Non-Football page.
March 9, 2020 at 9:43 pm #1833651Massive worldwide problem Lenny and you wonder where it might end.
Seemingly our lives are about to change in all sorts of ways. We look days away from Football behind closed doors and PSG will play Dortmund this week behind closed doors in their CL clash but whatever needs to be done must be done.
I hope all on here together with their families can stay safe.
March 10, 2020 at 8:55 am #1833756Believe it or not the non-football section was created because of me. I actually started a thread about it in the football section as a suggestion and the mod at the time agreed and created it.
I’d usually start a thread like this but not many people are posting in the non-football section. No matter how important the topic is or how much it affects us all.
March 10, 2020 at 8:57 am #1833757Few days ago in Italy. They quarantined around 16 million people. My question is, why wasn’t something like this done worldwide or at least in the UK much sooner?
March 10, 2020 at 8:35 pm #1834010You’re not wrong Nine, it is a massive worldwide problem and by all accounts it’s going to get far worse. I heard that Denmark have already banned any gatherings of over 1000 people and that country still has relatively few confirmed cases. Mind you, the Danes have always been at least two steps ahead of the rest of the world on social issues.
By now, it must be blindingly obvious to every European football association that allowing fans to turn up to a professional football match is currently an irresponsible no-go. Let’s face it, 30, 40, or 60,000 people in one place is surely asking for trouble. It’s a no-brainer!
Football from now on should be played behind closed doors until the risk of infection has been significantly reduced, or better still, completely eradicated.
Just think Nine, if that happened, the dreaded VAR wouldn’t be able to piss the fans off to distraction. It’s a win win!

Lenny.March 11, 2020 at 6:46 am #1834053`Man City v Arsenal postponed due to Coronavirus. Several arsenal players in self-isolation.
March 11, 2020 at 6:49 am #1834054No right or wrong answers here, and it’s only opinions but what do you think should happen if the worst happens and they suspend the league as it is?
Sportsmanship says Liverpool should be crowned champions but integrity says not. Can’t have teams relegated without playing a full season, that is unfair for a couple of reasons and you cannot have a champion without the other positions being finalised. I think they’d have to start again next season and scrap this one off.
March 11, 2020 at 11:56 am #1834167I’m not worried about this virus the slightest, what worries me is how quick people are to believe that we need to close down whole cities or countries because of the virus.
How easy it is to use something like a simple coronavirus to shut down the internet of whole regions, pick up anyone you could want to interrogate under a massive curfew where people snitch each other for sneezing.
Its some brave new world shit, I really doubt we would hear much of this virus if it only effected the poor, like famine does… but since it effects the global elite, its all over the news.
March 11, 2020 at 3:07 pm #1834251The problem with the virus isn’t that it’s necessarily deadly to the vast majority of the population, it’s not. About 80% of those who get it will have what seems like a bad dose of the flu, if even. A further 14% will need medical treatment and another 6% will be critical and need intensive treatment. That 6% is the worry, if 6% of the entire population need to be put into intensive care units then the medical system, in any country, is going to be under massive pressure, like Italy’s is right now. Then you’re going to be in a situation where a doctor will be standing in an ER or a car park in a tent and examining patients and deciding which ones stand the best chance of survival and treating those and leaving the others to die. Not a pleasant prospect.
March 11, 2020 at 10:02 pm #1834326Killyboye. The problem is, this virus is indiscriminate and can affect anyone. So far, the young and middle aged apparently survive it, but older people can die. Anyone with respiratory or high blood pressure problems are extremely vulnerable for a potential early bath.
There is no doubt that this virus was spread from China, and that can surely be no surprise. There is a strong suspicion that the Virus emanated from a typical non-hygienic wet fish and chicken market in Wuhan. I have my doubts though.
The Chinese eating habits should be by now an open book. They eat virtually any animal that walks, swims or flies on earth! Dogs, cat’s, rats and bats are on the menu. Any of these could kick-off a virus. And let’s not forget their snakes, worms and insects.
I could name many more of their ‘delicacies’ but I’ll name just one: Live new-born mouse dipped in a piquant soy chilli sauce! Say no more!
The good news is, I hear that Denmark have just reduced their crowd limits from 1000 to 100. They are so far ahead of the pack it’s beautiful!
Meanwhile where on earth is Boris?
Lenny.March 11, 2020 at 11:23 pm #1834375With Juve’s Rugani testing positive for Corona virus you wonder how much longer football indeed all sport can go on and you can add Concerts, the Theatre, Cinema , Sports Centres and Swimming pools etc etc to that too.
“Italy on lockdown – PM announces all but essential shops to Close
Italy has said it will be closing all shops except food outlets and pharmacies in an attempt to stop the spread of coronavirus. The Trump administration is set to discuss travel restrictions to be put into place for European countries amid the spread of coronavirus.
Sources told Reuters new travel advisories could be announced by the US in measures to prevent further infection. ” Express
March 12, 2020 at 8:31 am #1834408Behind closed doors football looks like being sanctioned today but is that the answer when you look at the thousands of fans outside PSG’s ground last night?
Imagine how many thousands of Liverpool fans would be outside the ground on the day the title is finally confirmed.
I just can’t help thinking that Corona Virus is such a massive problem now that we have to take the most extreme measures. Allegedly the Bundesliga is likely to be scrapped which seems the most sensible decision to me people’s lives are much more important than football.
March 12, 2020 at 12:58 pm #1834518UEFA reviewing whether to suspend the CL and the EL.
Inter Milan players told to stay at home until further notice.
La Liga suspended until April 5th.
Mclaren F1 team member diagnosed with Corona Virus and Mclaren pull out of Australian Grand Prix. Formula 1 teams meeting to decide whether Australian Grand Prix should be cancelled.
NBA suspended.
UEFA announce all football both domestic and CL and EL including the Euros to be reviewed by all interested parties via Video link next Tuesday.
Men’s ATP Tennis Tour suspended for 6 weeks.
March 12, 2020 at 8:10 pm #1834717Nine, suspension of a few professional sporting events is all very well but nowhere near enough. This virus is a bastard and is on the verge of entering its pandemic phase and much more needs to be done to avoid an unnecessary wipe-out of many thousands of vulnerable people.
The latest ‘initiatives’ presented by the likes of Trump and Johnson are pathetic in ineptitude even by their low standards. There are so many other far more urgent issues to address on this.
The world needs to follow the example of what’s happening over in Denmark. The Danish government has been extremely proactive and have already closed all public places i.e. schools, nurseries, universities, libraries, theatres, concerts, football grounds etc for initially 2 weeks.
A decision whether to extend this mass lock-down will be made towards the end of the 2 week period. The Danes have also advised their people to postpone unnecessary visits to the dentist, hairdressers and non-essential shops and shopping precincts etc. Restaurants and bars have also been advised to close and many have already done so due to lack of informed customers. There are also restrictions in place on all public travel. There must be at least 1 metre between people on all trains and buses.
That’s the way this virus should and must be handled. Someone needs to wake Boris up quick, before it’s too late!
Lenny.March 13, 2020 at 8:28 am #1834809Boris is allegedly taking advice from the experts but like you Lenny I think we have to move quicker and broader.
March 13, 2020 at 11:35 am #1834884All elite football in England has been suspended until at least 3 April as a result of the spread of coronavirus.
“All Premier League games, EFL fixtures and matches in the FA Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship have been postponed.
The Premier League said action would resume on 4 April “subject to medical advice and conditions at the time”.
The Football Association said England’s games against Italy on 27 March and Denmark four days later are off.
The EFL, which hopes to resume play a day earlier, said clubs were also advised to suspend “non-essential activities” such as “player appearances, training ground visits and fan meetings”. BBC Football.
Absolutely the right decision imo.
The key words above though are “at least 3 April ” and “action would resume on 4 April subject to medical advice and conditions at the time”.
Personally I doubt this season will be completed.
UEFA have postponed all next week’s CL and EL games and it’s only a matter of time before both competitions are suspended. The Euros will probably be postponed until 2021.
March 13, 2020 at 12:14 pm #1834886If true F1 have taken a huge step. First race could now be Baku which is 7th June. Just under 2 months.
March 13, 2020 at 2:36 pm #1834927If the Euros are postponed it would be because it’s unsafe to hold them this virus is predicted by the medical experts to peak in June no one knows when it would be safe to start playing football again.
Even if there was no Euros and it was considered safe to play domestic games cramming 9 games into the period from June until the start of the season would be very difficult taking into account pre season and possible contracted season tournamments even if the season was delayed then there’s players who have been transferred too. Zilyich for instance would be a Chelsea player on June 1st. And squads could be considerably unbalanced.
Nobody is sure we will be in a position to restart domestic football in June we might not even be in a position to start the new season in August. The only thing we can be sure of is the complete uncertainty of it all.
A simple solution might be to average out the current number of points each team has and then extrapolate that times 38 games by no means perfect but it might be the only and fairest way to decide the title (obviously Liverpool’s) as well as European, relegation and promotion places.
But there are no easy answers because of the unpredictability of what we are dealing with the most important thing though for everyone to remember is that human lives come before Football and all Sports.
March 13, 2020 at 4:47 pm #1834955This is also gonna fuck up the whole transfer window, most clubs have yet to decide on their final targets and have yet to send out there directors or chief scouts to finalize the decision making.
