It wasn’t just a treble. The path for each competition was as hard as possible. The champions league groups involved Barcelona and Bayern, knock out involved inter (Ronaldo and co) Juve (Zidane and co) and Bayern in the final. FA Cup had the main rivals Arsenal and Liverpool. The premier league went down to the last day facing an amazing Arsenal side. Not to mention how the Liverpool and Arsenal fa cup ties ended, Bayern final.

United treble team lost 5 all season including charity shield, undefeated in champions league against Bayern three times, Barca, Inter and Juventus. In FA cup we were unbeaten knocking out all top 6 teams including Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle. There is simply no comparison, this Liverpool team already lost 7 by March against teams like Watford, Napoli, Villa etc

Like I said not just a treble. Something out of a movie. I actually think 07/08 side was better. Everything that could go wrong in the Portsmouth fa cup-tie did and just didn’t work out. Subsequently Pompey went on to win the cup and Utd won the double.

No question, that Utd side was very impressive. To juggle all three major comps in the season and come out on top is beyond impressive. Liverpool have managed to win the league during a transition period for a lot of teams, much like my own side did. I don’t fool myself in believing that we won the league thanks to the perfect storm. Utd were shit, Chelsea were a shambles, City were all over the place, Liverpool the same, Spurs did their best and a shambolic Arsenal came up just short. In another year no way would we have won the league. Liverpool have been by far and away the best team this season, no doubt but they haven’t really been stretched or pushed.
That United side was stretched and pushed all the way and had a killer mentality
