I didn’t see this afternoon’s match but reading the reports the showing was pretty awful. As far as I can see there isn’t a single member of the current first team that inspires. I would say play the academy lads except I’m sure the real source of the problem is not primarily the players but the style of football and therefore the manager. I read on another site that the manager is in the process of losing the fans and the dressing room. If we were being successful the supporters might put up with this style of play but as we drift further from the top two and the seven or eight other teams with play off aspirations creep closer to our third place and our attacking play is virtually non-existent, the feeling is that we are on a journey to nowhere and that won’t improve inder VI. We are hampered by having an uninterested owner, a poor manager, and a dispirited and largely untalented squad.I’m sure most of the other contributors on this site – what few there are – are in a similar state of despair.

I’ve just watched the briefest highlights ever of our match. Just the two goals and a save by SJ. About 2 minutes in all which says a lot about the game. We have a manager who is as inflexible in his style of play as he is in his team selection and substitutions. On top of that we have an owner who’s lost what little interest in the team that he had. He wants to sell the club and doesn’t seem inclined to put any money into it in the meantime. Everything I read or hear about the supporters who get to the matches is that they don’t like the style of play and that the atmosphere is flat. VI has to go before we end up in League 1.We are now 6 points behind Fulham and there are clubs closing in below us. If we wait until the New Year it will be too late but then again with the players we have we’ll sink without trace if we do go up!

I haven’t even seen the highlights yet, but I’ve seen most of the recent games and it’s really not looking good. I think it will improve with Mowatt, but without a change in tactics and approach and a new striker or two we’ll be lucky to stay in the play-off positions.
I was actually at Ewood Park yesterday and watched a thoroughly enjoyable match between one team coming into the game off the back of a 7-0 thrashing and the other well down the table. Obviously it’s difficult to compare how teams set up and the types of player they have, but what was very noticeable is that compared to WBA, Blackburn (especially) press very hard in the middle of the park and as soon as they win it, they move the ball forward extremely quickly and have a centre forward and a couple of wide men who are very dangerous. It’s the open Tony Mowbray style that can sometimes leave them exposed at the back. At the moment, we seem to have the worst of both worlds, risky high line at the back, too slow to get the ball forward and a lack of skill up front resulting in a failure to keep posession in the final third which equals very few chances.
Ah well, on a brighter note, at least Dean Smith has been sacked!

I’m at a loss. What can the Baggies do? They’ve made a big mistake going for VI. I was prepared to give him a go at the start but DW was right to point out his track record. If he’s sacked, we can’t make another mistake. Bournemouth and Fulham appointed proper managers who play football like it should be played. I suspect we’ll have a real struggle to make the play offs and if we do,get beaten in the semi-final. It’s depressing.
