Thought I’d start a new thread to drop in odds n sods for the new season ahead as opposed to sticking everything in the ‘transfer window’ one.

I see it’s ‘better’ news regarding AFCON 2022 which is scheduled to take place between January 9 and February 6.

Even if our three AFCONS (Mane, Mo and Naby) make the final they’ll miss just two Premier League games, at home to Brentford and away at Crystal Palace and ALL return for the home game against Leicester on Feb 9.

Mo may miss the season opener at Norwich as he may not return from the Olympics until a week before that match (Jota, Bobby and Mane up top v Norwich).

All could be worse I guess. Supports my thoughts more that we will possibly get another forward in this window or definitely one in January.

Finally, a tough festive period I see! Spurs, Leicester and Chelsea away. Ouch.

I actually prefer us playing against the tougher teams in that stretch after Christmas. Usually, players are knackered by then and we are definitely fitter than the other teams. Can’t really complain about this fixture list though. I think it really suits the way we do things.

Rob I´m loving every single report about the club ATM…

A new expansion of Anfield about to start, we are tying down key members of the squad once again…

Fabinho, Salah, Firmino are all about to be handed new contracts soon… I think Robbo should be up for a new contract as well and a few other players…

We actually got a nice fixture list, I love a good festive schedule, there is nothing better than playing against your closest rivals and I reckon all three of those will be slugging it out for points with us…

I got faith in the prep team, I think they are much more accustomed to traveling with restrictions and all that… That will be a big bonus this season, like an extra 10 points for us and I´ve really missed Anfield… Its just not the same without hearing YNWA every week or so…

I can imagine every single staff member at the club feels the same and is roaring to go again… Its gonna be a good season

Thanks for that Rob, I hadn’t even considered looking into when the AFCON actually was gonna take place but that is a really sweat deal there for us.

“Fabinho, Salah, Firmino are all about to be handed new contracts soon… I think Robbo should be up for a new contract as well and a few other players…”

Why is Robertson on such a relatively low salary? He’s been playing to a very high level for years here, won everything… Others have all gotten new contracts but Robbo seems to not be pressing for one at all. They really should sort this out, get him locked down and make sure he’s damn well delighted to play for LFC.

Fairly optimistic coning into the new season. As bingo says, the expansion to the stadium is huge need. To get that started is brilliant

Also a fully fit abd firing thisgo is something really to look forward to. He was an absolute joy to watch in the last 10-8 games. I just hope he can stay fit

Vvd back aswell and hopefully a fully packed anfield. Not sure how I watched football without fans. Euros is good to watch as fans in the stadium. The tempo is faster when fans are in the stadium in my opinion

Also what do people make of Rafa going to Everton? Everton fans certainly won’t be happy

Not from Liverpool so cannot gauge how the news will go down there but personally I’d be chuffed for rafa to manage everton, so long as they don’t bother us. He is a top bloke and loves the city so almost perfect for him. As for Everton fans I think getting ancellotti was somewhat above their level so who did they want? I bet no one with as good a reputation as Rafa. Once the results start to show progress they’ll like him, just not as much as he likes us or us him!

As for the season I’m optimistic like you Sean. If we get our injured back, and that is a big if, I’d be reasonably confident of challenging even without any additions.

VvD and one of Matip, Konate or Gomez fully fit, Hendo back leading the press and organising the midfield, Thiago carrying on the great partnership with Fabinho and both fullbacks recharged and licensed to go forward safe in the knowledge there’s a world class center back pairing behind them. Get Manr and Bobby firing again and we’d look great. Appreciate there’s a lot of ifs and buts to all this.

The crowd will help. What’s the latest on numbers, any suggestions for the first part of the season?

Our form towards the end of last season bodes well for next season. The key is finding a replacement for Wiji.

With the restriction being extended will owners specifically ours who are pragmatic hold back on spending this summer. Anything can happen & if stadiums can’t n operate at full capacity for a few months of the the new season will that be a consideration?

Everton are in no position to be choosey and should be thanking their lucky stars that someone like Rafa already loves the city so much that he’s willing to lower himself to their level. If they want to cut off their nose to spite their face, then so be it but I for one have no issue with Rafa for taking the job. In fact, i hope the first thing he says when he joins is “let’s grow this small club!” 😀

No seriously, Rafa has earned legendary status here and isn’t going to undo it by taking the Everton job. Some will disagree but I wouldn’t have a huge amount of respect for that type of opinion.

As for spending, I guess we’ll see it when they get assurances regards fans alright ya. of course, the longer that the window goes on with low spending, the more you’re going to see some desperation from selling clubs. There might come a time when there are some great deals out there. Of course the Euros are a natural block for activity also. I think we’ve got to be patient, but I really hope we see a replacement for Gini. It’s the only activity that I think we genuinely need, everything else after that would be helping us in the future (aging players etc).

Rafa has never been wanted at any club but he still leaves fans with fond memories of him, I love the bastard to bits even though he would change his colours…

We love him, Valencia fans loves him, Chelsea love him, Newcastle love him…

I think he would be the perfect placement for them, got all the experience and would never break his contract like Angelotti just did…

He would probably stay for a decade of they allowed him to do that…

I wouldn’t exactly say that Chelsea fans loved him – he got ‘dog’s abuse’ from them for most of the season. At the end, following a creditable 3rd place in the league and winning the UEFA/Europa Cup, many of them grudgingly appreciated that he hadn’t been as bad as they were predicting. But it was a very strange situation that he found himself in. Di Matteo had won the CL the previous season and had got off to a great start in the PL and had been top until around October, when they then lost 2 and drew 2 in succession, and in typical Chelsea fashion, he got sacked! I’d guess that most of the Chelsea fans didn’t agree with this so were probably going to take it out on whoever came in to replace Di Matteo – and they had special reason to be antagonistic to Rafa following the CL exploits in the previous decade.

The other factor was that Chelsea were struggling a bit to get out of their Champions League Group – and they eventually finished 3rd but lost out on head-to head with 10 points. Whichever way you slice and dice Di Matteo’s start to the season – a totally bizarre sacking and one that could only happen at Chelsea. It wasn’t as if they had someone else lined up to take over permanently – hence it was agreed with Rafa on an interim/end of season basis. Maybe they thought Rafa still had the key to unlock Torres as a top goalscorer – but that didn’t really happen.

Ya, Chelsea fans definitely do not love, nor even like Rafa. I think he softened the dislike with the Europa League win, which is kinda incredible but it says a lot about how much they disliked him before.

Di Matteo is a Chelsea legend and always will be he was a great Chelsea player and delivered an unlikely CL win from a difficult position but overall the job was too big for him and that’s been proven by his managerial failures since and the fact he remains out of work.

My views on Rafa at the time were that he was the best option available to see Chelsea through to the end of the season and so it proved but Rafa split the fans because of his past and what he said so he was never going to be fully accepted by Chelsea fans and it was the right thing to let him go at the end of the season.

Suggesting Rafa was loved by Chelsea fans is more than a gross exaggeration.😊

A bit like Liverpool fans having a soft spot for SAF Bingo.😊

I do though respect what Rafa did at Liverpool and the short term job he did at Chelsea when Interim Manager in difficult circumstances.

I wouldn’t though if I was Moshiri force Rafa on the Everton fans who clearly don’t want him as it could lead to a very difficult period for the Club and be uncomfortable for Rafa himself but according to the latest reports it looks like it’s going to happen.

Thankfully i was born out of the cities rivalry, I always thought it was a bit silly when my mates grouped themselves up as Liverpool vs United back here in Iceland…

I got nothing but respect for Fergie… Would love his book as well, should make for a awesome read

Crazy thing is it’s Everton fans who are miffed by Rafa joining. Majority of liverpool fans don’t care and wish him luck. Legend for the club and has done so much for the city but Everton fans certainly don’t want him there. It’s not going to work out like Bruce to villa and McLeish to villa.

It’s perfect for Rafa though with his family still there etc but it’s a really bad move for his career

It will end in tears. Rafas football at Newcastle was terrible. He’s far to negative and he will be feuding with someone soon
