Thought I’d take a stab at starting a thread where we can share our feelings about other teams of the PL, whether that is to grudgingly see the merits of our rivals and also to have a good-humoured laugh at them too 😉

    Chelsea

I’ll start off by talking about Jorginho, watched MOTD today and he comes across as a bit of a Xabi Alonso type. I’m not sure where he would have slotted into our team, considering our current setup do any of you guys think he could have slotted into our high octane pressing game? Chelsea look quite good to be honest they have a high quality blend of players. Even Barkly looked decent. I think we will have to be wary of them making a challenge. I still think we have a much better front three though but they are no slouches.

    Arsenal

Also, arsenal look interesting, they still seem to carry some of the flaws of the last season namely in defence but they look good on the break although. I’m not sure how I feel about Auba at the moment, missed two really easy chances today, was Klopp right to give Auba a miss? I think emery is trying to be positive but I still think Arsenal lack quality, they need a few signings to go up a level or two.

Fred of ManU also looks like a good player, I think he will be United’s Keita although I don’t think he is as good as Keita obviously 🙂

Also, I see James Madison scored today, this was a player we were linked with, he seems like Lallana MKII lol

Lastly, Everton is above us in the league!!! They will be getting dizzy but seriously they also have an interesting team too.

Aresnal don’t lack quality mate. They lack fight, work rate and desire and the likes of Ozil, laczatte and mikithern would get no were near our team now as they just don’t give a feck

I would never write off you utd and they will be our most difficult opponent as they are a defensive side

I’d be more worried about Chelsea than Utd, myself. Its hard to know which way they will go with a new manager but their track record with new managers is pretty good. They also have a really decent team, to which they’ve added Jorginho. Utd could surprise me but I don’t see them getting a top 4 place this season, I do see Chelsea managing it though.

The Utd board didnt back Jose because he’s got less than a season left, if he doesn’t buck up. That’s my own opinion on things anyway. You don’t back managers who have done nothing with previous serious backing in the market. Utd might be a particularly tough prospect for us, on match day but besides doing well against us, they are largely uninspiring. The football they play under Mourinho is a slap in the face of their “brand”. Long may Jose stay 😉

I’ve no clue about Arsenal but my guess is that they might need some time. That’s a mighty project that Emery has on his hands.

Spurs, strange for them to not sign anyone. They’ve got the manager and a lot of quality in general. Surely you’ve got to try and make further progress? I’m not writing them off just because of that though, they are too good to ignore.

Man city, rubbish… Ok no seriously. i think they’d have struggled to match last season regardless. You don’t need to go backwards in order to not match a record breaking season but now they’ve lost KDB for a long stretch, they might still destroy teams but I think their chances of off days just shot up.

Agree with you Sean on arsenal in the work rate and desire issue but I do think their center backs are not good enough. I mean even lovren would get into that defence 😉

Mr Mak yeah Spurs situation is weird, apparently the stadium has gone over budget so is it a sign that they will have to enter a period of austerity like Wenger oversaw at Arsenal? If so then how will they be able to keep hold of players?

Never doubt United unless Moyes is in charge lol, I miss that guy! Lol

Well 2 things, with the money in football going up at a much higher rate than general inflation, the costs of making a new stadium shouldn’t be as big a problem as it was for Arsenal. So, my thinking is that any period of austerity might be shorter.

The second thing on this though has to be the belief that the current players have in Poch, to have stayed. Every club has to feel like it’s at least going forward, or it might start going backwards but they’ve kept their players over the summer. Now, whether we will see cracks form before the January window, or next summer, who knows. They should do whatever they can to have some money to spend though. I think we’d all be happy to see them stagnate but I’m not writing them off. They will put in a strong season if they can keep that belief.

Im watching man city now and they are going to take some beating to the league title. No KDB, sane, sterling, mahrez, walker but they are now cruising at 3-1.

Agree Sean, Mourinho always sets his side up not to concede and we rarely beat them which adds further frustration. Reds, it will take some doing to steal the Champions crown from them. They are just so well oiled/drilled/disciplined. Huddersfield are bad, really bad, but City look good in every game. For me, this season, it’s City 1, us or Utd 2, then Spurs or Chelsea for third.

If I can’t watch Liverpool then watching ManU loosing has got to be the next best thing. Come on Brighton 2-0 up!

Mr Mak you’re right about Spurs and I think another reason they can get away without signing anyone is before because they already have quite good balance unlike us who are seeking to get balance due the first time in more than 10 years (were we actually balanced under Rafa hmmmmm?).

Red4ever and Rob city are frightening. We might be able to match city with our first team don’t get injured but they can afford to smack teams with their reserves. This is what Alex Ferguson teams used to do so well, signs of a posdible dynasty starting?

Big balls where’s the equivalent of arsenal fan tv for United, want to watch that tonight lol…. Mourinho In! Although I probably shouldn’t be teasing United before we are about to play palace away, I got my humble pie in the fridge just in case lol

After watching brighton beat utd i have to reassess my opinion on utd fighting for 2nd. I think they be lucky to get 4th. That was 90 minutes of absolutely awful football and some of their players just look disinterested as well. Two years of playing dog shite boring lifeless park the bus football has finally killed their spirit.

It’s a long season ahead but from what I saw today, United have a huge amount to do to get going. They were crap… conceded 3 but in particular, shocking on the ball. Really lethargic.

It’s Mourinho third season syndrome. I think he’s a busted flush and he has ripped the soul out of Utd. I hope he gets a knighthood.

The reason why ourselves and City are the favourites is because there is maximum harmony between the managers and players at both clubs and both have top quality squads now, City obviously having the better strength.

Arsenal are under construction this year, Mourinho still doesn’t have the team and squad he wants, Spurs will always be a solid outfit but lack that high end quality to be a threat. Chelsea will most probably be the best of the rest, but they still have a new manger there who will take time to instil his philosophy.

As I said earlier we could lose tomorrow against Palace so I know shouldn’t go too far, but if you cant enjoy your rivals having a mini-meltdown then whats the point of being a football supporter eh? 😉

I couldn’t resist… well there’s NO official Man Utd TV, so I did one of the next best things and had a look at the TT page for United.

I remembered that poster theMartial Art who used to tease us and antagonise us about our club and Klopp, well I’d forgotten about that poster until just now lol…

Must say, I am enjoying seeing Martial’s posts on the United page. He has disappeared from here at least.

Man U have problems no doubt, but how serious they are is not yet clear. Their supporters are so arrogant and entitled that they start screaming and turn on each other the moment things don’t go their way. It would be presumptuous to write them off so soon though. I’d be very surprised (and delighted) if they’re not in the top four at the end of the season

I don’t watch Championship football enough but does anyone know what the deal with Leeds is at the moment. Only 3 games or so but they are getting lots of praise as the Dortmund of the Championship. They play with a high press and are scoring for fun it seems at the moment. Their manager Bielsa apparently has been a big influence on the likes of Pep and Poch. Never heard of this guy but by all accounts, he looks like he will get Leeds in the PL with a bucket of goals and doing it in style too! Has anyone heard of this guy? Rumour also that he made the entire Leeds team pick up garbage for 3 hours to help them understand what its like for Leeds fans to afford tickets for games, seems a character too…

He was Chile and/or Argentina national coach I think, and had a two game stint at Lazio. He’s what they call a ‘colourful character’ and liable to implode at any moment, but should be entertaining
