I fear for Frank and Chelsea this season, I really do. To take your main entity for the past 6 years and sell him only to replace him with a Yank whose not fit enough to lace Mark Steins boots spells trouble. Chelsea will be fighting it out with the likes of Wolves, Leicester, Everton for that upper Mid table spot. Some lost years ahead for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Nevermind Chelsea, at least you beat Barca in pre season…

Ha, ha, Martial whilst United will be competing for the PL title right?😊

The scoreline considerably flattered United yesterday.

The majority of Chelsea fans recognise the size of Frank’s task and don’t have high expectations for this season and will be supportive of him no matter what.

The best player in the PL is no longer available to him, Chelsea haven’t been able to sign any players this Summer and have been heavily hit by injuries to key players with a number of key players not available to Frank yesterday yet for much of the game Chelsea were the better side.

United away on the first day of the season was always going to be tough but when Chelsea get their key players back which will begin to happen sooner rather than later they will win more games than they lose although this season the optimum is probably 6th place however Frank has allegedly £200m plus to spend once the transfer ban has finished which could be as early as January when both those things come together we will see a very different Chelsea.

City, Liverpool and Spurs look nailed on for the top three places probably in that order which leaves United having to fight it out with Arsenal for 4th place and currently Arsenal look the stronger but United would still have a chance to get back into the CL via the EL but again Arsenal might stand in their way.

Very dangerous to draw too many conclusions based on the first game of the season Martial I thought you were smart enough to realise that and even more dangerous to judge a player on 20 odd minutes in an away game that his side were already losing against a team mainly focussed on counter attack but that’s your usual form.😊

Lets not forget Chelsea were champions a couple of seasons back. Its shocking how the quality of that team diminished since then. Courtious, David Luiz, Cahill, Cesc, Matic, Hazard, Costa, etc all left and look at some of the players you brought to replace them – Morata, Giroud, Abraham, Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Jorginho, Zouma, etc. Chelsea looked so fragile on the counter, I thought without Hazard and with the same defense and defensive midfielders as last season you would be strong at the back and very average going forward. Instead it was average going forward and woeful at the back. Pedro seems past it, Azpi was finished last season his legs are gone. Zouma most likely lost any chance he had at a starting spot. I can’t believe that any living , breathing person will choose Zouma over David Luiz. Selling David Luiz for 7m only to replace him with Zombie Zouma is already looking Lampard’s first mistake. Abraham looked massively out of his depth. Mount was ok for 60 mins and then faded.

I don’t think 200m is enough to fix the problems of this team. Chelsea cant defend and they cant score goals. Abraham wont score many and Giroud does more link up play than score. Chelsea play some nice football and created chances but there seems to be impotence at the top and bottom. Too early to say definitively but it doesnt look good. You need a leftback, someone like Chilwell and he will cost 70m. A commanding CB to partner Rudinger and it will cost you another 70m. A quality striker to lead the line another 70m. Then there are other areas that need strengthening. CM, a winger someone like Zaha, etc.

The majority of Chelsea fans recognise the size of Frank’s task and don’t have high expectations for this season and will be supportive of him no matter what.

I don’t think Lampard will get the support of all Chelsea fans no matter what. I know a lot of Chelsea fans who hold grudge against Lampard for leaving to City. Lampard aint Terry, that’s for sure. A couple of heavy defeats like that, things will change. I know that for sure. Lampard already looking completely out of his depth. He thinks he’s still in the Championship. That lineup was pathetic. I don’t remember Chelsea losing 4-0 in any game. if Lampard is pinning all hopes on championship duo abraham and mount, he’s in for a very long season. Welcome to the Premier League Frankie Boy.

As for Utd, we’ve bought 2 top class players there in Maguire and WB. Man City and Liverpool are quite a bit ahead of us but we’ve got an honest manager there who has at least steadied the ship and brought back Fergusons principles .. we’ll get tested so much more than this game by better opposition as Chelsea were absolutely all over the place but United looked a little more like our old selves already. Solskjaer needs to sign two proper midfielders the two that started with Pogba against Chelsea are simply not good enough to be called Manchester United first-team players at best they are squad players. Think about how United would be if we had Eriksen & Fernandes instead of these two. I believe United will get an M/F in January. Declan Rice or Maddison. And in the summer, Jadon Sancho and Longstaff. We will back challenging for the title. This season is all about top 4. Look out everyone,UTD ARE BACK!

as much as TMA’s assertions about Manure are laughable, they will be in a battle for 6th place, I do actually agree with everything he says about the makeup of that Chelsea side. Chelsea used to have world class players in every position. That is so far from reality now. Pedro and Willian were world class players, but are past their prime now. Kante and Rudiger are about the only ones left now that would get into any other top side.

foxy, Chelsea are a Club in transition we have a group of very good young players but it will take them time to adapt to the PL as it will Frank after just a season in the Championship.

On top of that we’ve lost Hazard and have had to contend with a transfer ban and we are still missing Rudiger, James, Loftus Cheek, Hudson Odoi and Willian and Kante has had no pre season because of injuries and played his game first yesterday.

Last night I think demonstrated that Chelsea are likely to win more games than they lose which might get them into the top 6 but even that won’t be easy given the improvements at Leicester, Wolves and Everton. But the majority of Chelsea fans aren’t expecting much more than that this season but given time and a fair crack at a transfer window to fill in a couple of gaps there’s every chance of Frank building a new and very decent Chelsea team

In terms of world class players lost tbh I think only Hazard and maybe Kante in his original position touched world class but we have lost a few very good players and it takes time for the other players to step up and replace them.

Another tough game on Sunday especially after the rigours of last night and we could do with putting some points on the board.

@steveosnakeeye – If you’re not paying enough attention yet, Ole is restoring the feel good factor around Old Trafford. Phil Neville said it nicely (https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49315023)

Ole is back at the wheel, he took a holiday there the last 2 months of last season but is now back at the wheel…. Smalling, Young and Jones not even in the squad is a big shift in the right direction. Aaron wan Bissaka is a beast, a great centre half in Harry Maguire steadying the defence and talking to his fellow defenders. I’m not saying united will win the league this season I’m saying I see a team that will fight till the end and work hard for each other. We will give the likes of City and Liverpool a proper game as opposed to some of our embarrassing performances over the past few years. 5 academy players started, 2 on the bench and 1 came on. Then we have Chong and Gomes to come. Utd future is looking just fine. Hard to see anyone past City for the title this season. United will definitely finish inside the top 4. and there’s 4 clubs: Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea fighting for two spots.

Congratulations on the UEFA Super Cup, Sean.

Adrian did himself proud on his debut. Good goalkeeper there.

I bet Nil enjoyed the result, if not the match. Pass on my regards if he still posts elsewhere.

predictably Nil had a complete meltdown during the match then all came good with the result (after some derogatory chelsea comments) business as usual

    TMA

all i am aware of is you have won 1 game…against a very weak chelsea side in the first game of the season and even then the result could have been very different.

lets hope Ole doesnt fall asleep at the wheel again 🙂

steps in the right direction yes, but still to much deadwood and overpriced poor players and your only real star doesnt want to be there…rosy!!

kepp it up though you are a good giggle 🙂

Poor Nil. His club is on the up and experiencing their best period in years and even that does not satisfy him. The guy needs to get off these forums and even stop following football if it gets to him like that.

A great result against United’s bogey team. Normally it’s United that comes away feeling bad after playing Chelsea. Its all about scoring goals & United took their chances very well, at the end of the day its 4-0 to United. As I said, Chelsea might even be in the mix with the best of the rest clubs like everton/leicester/wolves this season 🙂

@steveosnakeeye – A ‘very weak’ Chelsea side? Is this the same ‘very weak’ Chelsea side that drew 2-2 with Liverpool? From my point of view I’m just happy to watch a decent performance from Utd at last. YES it’s only one game, but I have seen togetherness in this Utd side that has stood out in pre season and was carried on into the first game. Not saying we’ll win the league etc but let’s see how many teams score 4 goals against this ‘very weak’ Chelsea side.

tma, utd are a mid table counter attacking team, sometimes average teams get amazing results, like bournmouth beating chelsea by 4 last year. Dont get carried away, chelsea will finish above utd.

Sorry tma I don’t take you seriously mate.

Many thanks Alfie. I expected a response from Chelsea after utd beat them wellon Sunday. Tough game and concerned about how high up the pitch we are defending. Thought Chelsea were very good.

Utd played well on Sunday. Much more energy in a lot of players performances. Wan b shone last year for palace abd he’s only going to get better.

Good to chat mate and it’s going to a very interesting season
