Three points at home. I’d like to say we deserved it but we didn’t. Their keeper had nothing to do all match except catch the occasional cross. Fortunately for us he managed to drop one at Saido’s feet. After several replays both commentators said the ref got it right. Sunderland were the better team by a mile in the first half (new manager syndrome?) but didn’t match it in the second half. As for performances, only the defence and Sess can take any credit in the first half. Second half, McClean started to come into it a bit more but whenever we got the ball out wide there was nobody in the box! Rondon didn’t get much service and was replaced by Lambert who was no better. Gardner for Saido was another puzzler. Why not put McManaman on the right and move Sess inside. Sunderland wanted a penalty for the tackle by Sess but replays showed he got the ball which then bounced off Borini for a goal kick. I think the ref had a good game except for Yacob’s booking. He was in mid air when the whistle blew!
