A lot of talk recently about what strikers, attacking midfielders etc we should bring in if any.

So let me get the ball rolling here.
If we could only sign 3 players this summer for what positions do we sign them?

Keep in mind recent info that’s coming out of the club, what players are likely to stay and where we are likely to promote from within.

For me I believe we need another wide goal scoring attacker. He may be a younger prospect but he can play that position easily. He may not be the finished article or may not be hitting figures close to what Mané/Salah are hitting initially but I believe we need another player there to bring on as a sub to change the game or indeed to give one of the other lads a rest when needed.

Secondly I think we should bring in a creative attacking midfielder. I’ve been banging this drum since we sold Coutinho where I was told we didn’t need that kind of player or that we’d replace him that summer. History has told us that’s not the case. There’s a strong argument to be made that a player of that ilk would have helped us win the CL final last year and helped us break down stubborn defences this year.

Finally, and I’m not expecting names normally, but I think we should go all out and sign de Ligt.
This lads phenomenal. At only 19 captaining his team to possibly a CL final and put in the performances he has he is a special player who could play in our defence for the next 10yrs comfortably and partner VVD for a few years yet. While Matip has put in fine performances this 2nd half of the season and must be lauded for them that’s not the norm for him. Matip and Lovren are usually injured/ill for a unusually large amount of games. One of them must leave this summer I feel. Gomez, de Ligt and VVD would make for fantastic options at the back. de Ligts coaches are already muting Liverpool as the kind of team he needs to move to because of the style of football we play. He could help sew up our defence with either VVD or Gomez for years to come giving us that basis for sustained success.

I appreciate that we need a backup left back and possibly right back but due to the premise being only 3 players allowed to be signed that’s the 3 id go for.
There’s some suggestion we could promote from within for leftback and 1 or 2 other positions.

    Thoughts???

If I could have any saying in any transfers, I would go after Ryan Sessegnon, as a cover for Mané and Salah and perhaps as a emergency left back.

Im not sure if we really need a right back so Ill let that one alone.

We do need a playmaker but as it is, I dont see anyone specific that we should go after, we just need that #10

And finally, we should 110% go after Matt de Ligt!

Thought about Sessengnon myself but I wanted an even more attacking wide forward.
Apparently there’s a young left back with the u23s that’s likely to be promoted.
His name escapes me just now.

Regarding CB, De Ligt is a must, if he is free and wants to join Liverpool.

Problem is Gomez, our first choice CB to partner Van Dijk when fit, is prone to serious injuries that lead to him missing almost whole seasons, and it’s happened twice now.

If not De Ligt, then it has to be another top CB who is as robust as Van Dijk injury wise

So we’re agreeing on a centreback and in particular de Ligt.
What 2 remaining positions would you address?

I think we need proper cover for Bobby. Even a starter and Bobby can push back at times.

Creative midfielder in the Fekir mound.

De Ligt all day long if we can get him. Those be the three and maybe Wilson can be proper cover for the lads out wide?

I don’t think we will spend near as much as we did last season

Ginger, to answer your question, let me start by saying that the most important positions to sign for are those where we are either weak, or need massive improvement – hence signing Alisson and Van Dijk respectively last season.

Ideally, in addition to De Ligt, I would like to see us sign a midfield playmaker and a striker/versatile attacker like Salah or Mane.

But in midfield we are fully stocked now unless we sell at least a few players, and the only one I can see leaving is Lallana. So it is upfront where we are most likely to sign someone because Origi will be the only backup if Sturridge leaves, hence why Werner has been touted.

Let’s see what happens, the actual transfers in and out may actually be quite different to what is being predicted or asked for by the fans.

Just know that with Michael Edwards at the helm, we are sure to strike gold in the next transfer window

Do we really need De Ligt though? Don’t get me wrong, he is a great player, but he would cost a fortune in today’s market and I don’t think we will have the same budget that we had last summer. Gomez’s injury this season was due to an unfortunate collision, not his body breaking down. I am skeptical we will have a huge summer transfer window like last summer and I would prefer we focus on other areas, CB is not an area that needs much attention IMO.

Chelsea look to be selling Hazard & will have Pulisic for next season. To strengthen I hope we go back in for Fekir. Apparently Juventus are now interested in signing him. Can play as cover for Bobby if Sturridge moves on & be that Coutinho replacement finally. Cheers

I think Felipe Anderson would be a good fit for us, quick, skillful player who chips in with goals and assists but also works very hard for the team defensively. Ryan Sessangnon also, he’s a good player and can cover LB. Then a big game player, who knows where the goal is, like Antione Griezmann.

I watched the spurs west ham game and diop in the hammers defence looked a beast. He is also senegalese so would keep mane happy? Wouldnt cost an arm and a leg

This season alone VVD has partnered Matip, Lovren, Gomez and Fabinho.
    VVD is the only constant.
Hendo was gonna have to play centreback at one stage and this is because the likes of Lovren and Matip in particular pick up so many knocks, injuries and illnesses it’s not sustainable.
If we want to start winningv trophies soon we need consistency in the team.
Hopefully Gomez injuries are just unlucky occurrences as they’ve been mostly impact injuries but there’s no getting away from the fact that he misses a significant portion of each season.

I don’t think we’ll have a massive transfer window either but Sturridge will go (out of contract) as well as Moreno possibly Origi and Lallana. That’s 4 players alone out of the current squad not to mention any loan/youth players.
Paul Joyce who is extremely reliable regarding Liverpool news has said Klopp will not be replacing Sturridge but will instead promote Brewster. Whether that means Brewster will be 2nd choice or not remains to be seen.

So it’s seems like most of us agree that we need a another option up front (wide) a creative midfielder and maybe a centre back.

Will be interesting to see who Klopp and Edwards think we need and what the actual transfers will be, both in and out. Could be some big surprises on the way.

I can actually see quite a few players leaving and for good prices at that, so once again a relatively low net spend

Yea can see a significant number leaving..
    Migs
    Moreno
    Clyne
    Karius
    Ojo
    Lallana
    Grujic
    Sturridge
    Origi
    Ings
    Kent

    Randall
    Possibly Lovren

    I’m sure there’s more.
How much money would they bring in?

What’s people’s views on Wilson? Is he ready to step up?

Two good stints in the championship. Very fast, can play in a few positions and powerful
    Left foot

Big leap from championship to pl though?

I like the look of him

    Is Wilson that fast though?
Doesn’t strike me as having that searing pace of the likes of Mane/Salah?

Thing is tho, under Klopp, players rarely come back into the squad after being loaned out. It seems to be used asa way to develop them further before selling.
I don’t think he’ll be part of the squad next season.

Gomez has had a few big injuries but they are unrelated so you cannot say he will miss 2 or 3 months every season. He has been unlucky but there’s every chance he will go next season pretty much injury free. De Ligt will only join a team to be first choice and will demand a fee that teams wont pay for back up. So if we sign him, predicted injuries or not, Gomez will be relegated to 3rd choice.

I cannot see the team paying so much to relegate Gomez, who is probably the better player, to the bench. We need to strengthen but the club needs to be smart. I can see mostly back-up/prospect signings unless a first teamer were to leave.
