Well, it appears the dialogue coming out of Palace is that there is very little money to spend… Is it fair play rules? I don’t know… we saw comments about paying for past seasons spending, yet we posted a profit as a club … I can only think the funds are being directed to the new stadium, that worries me because I have been to the Ricoh Arena which was a fantastic Division two stadium last season!!!
Everyone else is adding strength and depth… I fear we will let Roy down and could struggle.. I am not expecting or wanting big signings, I’d be happy with a few academy stepping up and some cheaper overseas or domestic “prospects” to make sure we have a full squad. We have lost Delaney, Chungy, Sako, Cabaye and the two loan signings, that’s 6 players…. Can we afford to lose 6 players, I don’t think we can… I’d like to see another 2 loans added but then it’s still 6 outfield players just to get to the small squad size we had last season… We really seriously couldn’t not cope nor compete if we lose players to injury… I feel our board is playing a high risk strategy… Given the profit from last year and add that to what would be a small player budget, I think Roy is being stung here…
Yes I too am perplexed by what is going on at the Club. Rumors fly all around about Zaha yet only now do we have Roy say he’s not going but we all know Roy has no say in it at the end of the day. I do recall Wilf in an interview after seasons ending saying he loved it here and why would he want to move but still no one tried to snuff out these consistent rumors. This fair play rules is a bit of a furphy as well for I had a quick read in the FA rules and my understanding it has nothing to do with how much you spend but more about paying agents, transfer fees and having your books in order by 1/3/2018. To me it makes sense as how the big 6 are able to spend so much?
As much as I like Steve Parish for what he has done I feel with the Yankee partners things are going awry. He was happy to give Pardew millions in bringing Benteke, Cabaye and Tomkins and even said this was a statement of intent in not just staying up in the Premier League but to attract better players and finish top half. Well this has now fallen by the way side and by saying, not saying anything one feels there is another agenda.
As for Roy he is a nice bloke straight forward who speaks openly and never sounds bitter however I have my doubts that without the injection on more players whether he can cope if we get injuries again. I say this for once again he needs to play Kai Kai, Wan Bissaka, Lokilo, Lumeka all on a regular basis in case we do cop injuries but I doubt he will. We do have Wickham back (I hope), Soure, Dann and Puncheon but really htey are no longer world beaters and if you look at Reidewald and Sorloth they are not up to it so we are once again really thin on the ground. Hope I am wrong but I feel this year will be our biggest test both with Manager, players and Board
