I read Keown’s comments about Trent and I must say that it is not bad idea Klopp to use him in midfield. He is not bad at all as a RB but a trial will not be bad…
January 2, 2019 at 4:17 pm #1712762I know he’s young but I think TAA is over-hyped. Defensively, I don’t think he has a defenders instinct. He often seems to be lagging behind when we are being countered and, my personal bugbear, is when defenders turn their backs on shots/crosses. Truly pisses me off – and he does this quite a lot.
Compared to Robertson on the other side, you can see why sides tend to attack us down our right. I think they recognise TAA as the weak link in our defence.
Going forward, he is better, but again, I think his passing etc has been over-hyped. More often than not his passing/crossing is quite poor. But he’s young and I hope he develops into a top quality RB. But he definitely isn’t there yet….Peace
January 3, 2019 at 2:59 am #1712923He has long ways to go alright. He is hyped a lot but he’s also criticized a lot and no comparison with Robertson is ever going to go well. He can be quite handy on his day. I think his best attributes are probably technically based. I don’t think Rb is right for him but I’m not sure he’s good enough to get into the team anywhere else. I myself have said on here a long time ago that there is a bit of Gerrard in him. Young players will show flashes of quality before they can work to both improve and gain consistency and he’ll hopefully do this over the next few years.
He played really well against city in one of last seasons games. In at least one other though they focused on him and he struggled. They absolutely will focus him again but I hope he has a good day because he’ll have to be at his best, defensively.
January 3, 2019 at 9:54 am #1713003Davinci, he is young yes and will develop. Just turned 20, still living with his parents, rated as the world’s most valuable full back (transfer value) and playing for Liverpool and England….wow!!!
Playing alongside the likes of VVD, Henderson :), Milner etc guiding him on the field and Klopp and co guiding him in training and we will see this kid develop, I think, into a full timer for England and Liverpool.
Yes, he has his deficiencies (mostly tactical) but show me a finished article at 20 and I’ll show my arse on the East Lancs.
January 3, 2019 at 10:04 am #1713005Thankfully he has youth on his side and plenty of time to improve. He has been over-hyped by many on here in particular. I think he’ll struggle to even be a regular in a couple of years.
Here’s his problem…. He isn’t a natural right back and is probably more suited to an attacking midfield role. He won’t be put in there, at least in the short term by Klopp and will be left as a full back. He’s too good to be loaned out for the time being and won’t get the opportunity to develop his attacking midfield skills at Liverpool.
Klopp will continue to build the squad and it will get tougher for him. The main thing he has going for him is his age and scope to improve. He also has a great attitude which helps but he’ll need it in my opinion.
January 3, 2019 at 7:39 pm #1713234Rob, it’s really not about his age. It’s about his quality TODAY. We are in a title race now. Maturing in a few years is all well and good but we are talking about things as they stand today. It seem that almost every game, esp against our rivals, they tend to target that side. Is it a coincidence? Probbaly not…
I wish him the best, as what’s good for him will be good for us…Peace
January 4, 2019 at 6:40 pm #1713643Mr Mak – it would have made more sense to have played TAA in the AM position instead of that dreaded midfield three. TAA is an attacking midfield at heart not a defender, obviously, too late to think about this now Clyne has gone. I don’t know why Klopp isn’t seeing this, the perfect like for like replacement for Ox (Ox also played as a fullback too during his formative years!)
January 15, 2019 at 4:43 pm #1716941Trent out for up to a month. So I guess Fabinho will be staying in the defense for a while longer even if one of the other CBs return.
I was a little scared because the website headline was “Liverpool defender out for up to a month”, thought that was VVD lol!
January 15, 2019 at 5:15 pm #1716947He’ll miss 3 games, maybe 4.
We play Milner right back with Matip back to centreback this weekend.
Fabinho and Hendo in midfield.
No big deal.January 15, 2019 at 6:13 pm #1716965We’ve got good cover in defence. But if salah or mane gets injured like kane…
January 15, 2019 at 7:32 pm #1716983Love that eye for talent, Trent is just about the most technical fullback we have had and has a better range of passing than any other fullback we have had in the past 3 decades bar Fabio Aurelio.
January 16, 2019 at 4:06 am #1717015reds If Salah or Mane is injured we at least have Shaqiri who is a more than adequate replacement. If they are both injured at the same time we are screwed, I’d like to see another forward signed this month but I doubt it. Thankfully they don’t get injured as often, and we definitely have to pray none of the front three gets injured.
January 16, 2019 at 12:49 pm #1717180Ginger: So you find having no recognised defender on the bench as no big deal.
January 16, 2019 at 1:01 pm #1717184Moreno will be on the bench.
If something happens to a central defender or Milner, Fabinho will drop back and we’ll bring on a midfielder. The following 11 should have more than enough to deal with Palace…
Allison
Milner, Matip, VVD, Robbo
Fabinho, Hendo
Shaq, Firmino, Mane
SalahMy bigger concern would be if 1 of the front 4 gets injured. The drop off to Sturridge/Origi is too big.
January 16, 2019 at 1:41 pm #1717199You trust Moreno more than Clyne? To be honest, I cleaned forgot about Moreno.
January 16, 2019 at 1:47 pm #1717202Moreno plays left back.
He’s cover for there and nothing else.
Milner has proven himself a very able full back, extremely capable of doing the job.
After Palace we have a 10/11 day break and then we play home again v Leicester.
By then we should have Gomez back, if not by then very close to it.January 16, 2019 at 1:50 pm #1717208I believe Clyne has covered as LB before so why not have that additional option?
January 16, 2019 at 2:36 pm #1717234Ya can’t just keep banking squad players in case 3 players get injured.
Clyne was 3rd, possibly 4th choice full back for either full back position.May 11, 2019 at 1:11 am #1750735I am convinced this lad will be our next captain, I’m also pretty sure he will take over the England captaincy one day. It might be another 2-3 years until that happens but I would put a bet on it right now.
