The lows and highs of football have been seen in the period of 7 days. Firstly, the “Lows”. Yes it was a bit of a no-show and highlighted some of our weaknesses. Did it deserve questions and criticism, absolutely. Should the manager be hung from the nearest lamppost – I think not. In fairness to the long suffering fan base who have showed remarkable loyalty over recent years, yes, form has slipped since the first half of the last season and our play has become a bit predictable. At the same time our financial situation whilst more stable does not give us the muscle that many of our rivals have and will impact on who and how Gary Rowett plays. No doubt he will not always get it right – and when it goes pear shaped, as it will from time to time, we will suffer the consequences. The real question is what follows. If there isn’t a positive reaction then it’s enviable decline and possibilities of relegation dogfights. The Norwich reaction shows what can happen if mistakes can be learned from and a whole squad pulls together. Hopefully, this is a result that can be built upon and players who may have been low on confidence can take heart from. The fans should take heart too. Things aren’t perfect, far from it but it’s not the end of the world either
