I think the word that sums up the Baggies this season is unconvincing. To start with this was understandable as we were playing a system that was alien to many of our players and trying to make footballers of all our defenders with very limited success. Our only really convincing performance other than the second-half against QPR and Reading was Leeds where we played them off the park. I thought this was the road to Damascus game, when the penny finally dropped and we would now take the league by storm. But again it was a false dawn. Our defence has started giving away gift goals and our attacks are sporadic and unpredictable. And now Barnes has left the essential element of creativity is missing too. So where should we go from here? Well, the one success is Harper and I feel that DM should be playing both Harper and Field regularly as part of our midfield. And please give Leko more game time.
PS Burke seems to be playing regularly for Celtic and is doing a useful job.

Rescued by the hand of Rod against the Villa and now by a penalty that never was against the Forest in a match from which we deserved nothing. The set up was crap, the team selection was crap, most of the football we played was crap and almost half the team were loanees which is yet another load of crap. Despite stabbing home a goal Murphy must be one of the worst players I have ever seen at this level and if he stays in the team ahead of our own youngsters I shall not be paying to watch.
Yet again we start with 433 when all our best play this season has come from a 442 formation but how we miss the contributions of Barnes (gone forever) and Phillips (will he ever return?). Livermore is utter junk in midfield and neither he or Dawson can pass a ball 10 yards with any accuracy. Shameful. The defence without Hegazi is shaky to the point of collapse and yet another self inflicted wound gave Forest a start they hardly deserved. Rodriguez charges around to no effect at all and has no first touch (but he does take a decent penalty) and Gayle naturally deserts his left sided position leaving Gibbs stranded when he comes forward.
The tactics are farcical as are most of the substitutions and if this continues – particularly over the next few matches – our slide down the table seems inevitable. DM needs help but there’s no sign of the cavalry just another contract on the table to condemn us to more of his inadequate management abilities. Yuk.
