By all accounts we were fortunate to come away from Boro’ with three points on Saturday and based on the limited highlights available perhaps lucky to pick up any at all so bottom of the league Barnsley with one away goal all season was an opportunity to start firing on all cylinders again.
Unfortunately no one told them and a dreadful first 45 minutes might easily have left us more than two down. A spirited fight back earned us a point in the end but the performance was far from convincing and only the crossbar denied them the win they probably deserved.
When teams attack us with some pace we look dreadfully vulnerable in midfield and the unused bench option was Brunt. Really? What the hell has happened to Harper? Persuaded to sign a new contract and nowhere to be seen. I think an explanation is due and a contract extension for mister one goal every 10 games – what’s that about?
One can only hope that the striker problem will be solved in January. The Metro is a complete waste of money who contributes nothing to this team. A bench player at best along with HRK. We need to try someone else.
Taking my 14 year old grandson to the Charlton game. Here’s hoping he’ll want to see another one! Keep the faith.

Barnsley came to frustrate our football in the manner of Pulis. Defending in numbers, fouling (7 yellow cards), time wasting and long throw-ins. How the ref let them get away with so much I don’t know. Even Foster would have been embarrassed by their goalies time wasting. Our creative players were stifled and couldn’t get going in the first half and Ferguson had his first poor game. At least SB is prepared to change things earlier than previous incumbents and it has mostly worked so far.As you say, our ageing (2) and goal shy strikers aren’t up to it. Interestingly our loanee Pereira can be had at the end of loan for £9 mil which is less than our two strikers cost and he scored three and assisted seven. Snap him up.

I was nervous about this game – due to decades of seeing Albion teams following the same imperative – a banana skin isn’t something to be avoided but to be stepped on. Maybe we’ve all got a bit above ourselves. We are a work in progress after all. But we ARE a work and we ARE in progress and I suspect that two points clear at the top is way beyond what we expected at this stage of the season. The really good thing is that we now have a manager quickwitted enough to see what isn’t working and to change personnel and tactics early enough to positively change the flow of a game.

I find it interesting that posts to this page after a loss or poor performance always exceed those after a win. Maybe we’re just expecting too much?

Sarky, I agree. But usually, when a team starts leaking oil, it is in the midst of a struggle, not on top of the league. So, despite all of our faults and short-comings, which I’m sure SB is well aware off, we are well-placed to not only consolidate our position but kick-on, when SB can bring in the reinforcements that he believes are necessary in January.

Hopefully those recruits will see that Albion are serious and likely to be promoted and the owner will back the manager with money.

What’s to say when everything is working well? Very little I suggest but there have been plenty of plaudits for our now attractive style of play and the results so far achieved all well deserved.
Agree entirely with the comments on Bilic. Acts early, acts decisively and unlike most of the past few seasons acts effectively. How many points have we already salvaged following his substitutions? About 15 by my count but it might be more.
We have done really well to attract him but unless we are promoted we will do even better to keep him in the face of competition from the Prem..
