“Chelsea have been handed a huge boost ahead of their west London derby against Brentford after N’Golo Kante returned to training.
The influential French midfielder missed last week’s Champions League defeat by Juventus in Turin and the subsequent Premier League win over Southampton as he isolated following a positive Covid-19 test taken following the 1-0 reverse against Manchester City.
Kante was also unavailable for selection for France for the 2020/21 Nations League finals in Italy, where Didier Deschamps’ reigning world champions will face Spain in Sunday night’s showpiece after a thrilling last-gasp win over Belgium.
However, the 30-year-old has now been cleared to return to training and took part in individual drills away from the main group at Cobham on Friday.
Kante will now hope to work his way back to full fitness in time for next Saturday, when Thomas Tuchel’s side make the short trip to face in-form west London rivals Brentford.” Standard 9/10
Hopefully Kante will be at least on the bench v Brentford and Pulasic should return to training next week too.
Both have had so little football this season with Chelsea it will feel like two new signings.October 10, 2021 at 10:06 am #2002658
Happy for Ben Chilwell, after his difficult time at the Euros, and then came back only to lose his place in the Chelsea team. But his hopes are high now, two goals in two games for club and country will do a world of good for his confidence.October 10, 2021 at 10:34 am #2002662
Hopefully the Lukaku return is just precautionary.
Question marks over Rudiger too hopefully he’s ok too.🤞🤞
Billy Gilmour was outstanding in the second half v Israel yesterday he needs to be incorporated as an integral part of the Chelsea squad next season and get real game time with us.October 11, 2021 at 12:08 pm #2002956
A little wary of this match and probably one that Kante in midfield would be preferable. The Bees have started the season off mightily and could cause big problems if we are not on song. We need the best possible line up in this one and treat it like a Cup final. I’m thinking and hoping for a 1-0 win, probably Lukaku on the score sheet.October 12, 2021 at 1:43 pm #2003465
“Germany continued their spotless record under new coach Hansi Flick and secured qualification for the 2022 World Cup as Chelsea striker Timo Werner scored twice in a 4-0 rout of North Macedonia on Monday.
Just months after they slumped to a shock 2-1 defeat to the same opponent on home soil, Germany cruised to a dominant win in Skopje to increase their lead at the top of Group J to eight points and secure their berth at next year’s tournament in Qatar.
Werner’s Chelsea team-mate Kai Havertz also got on the scoresheet and Jamal Musiala scored his first international goal as Germany made it five wins out of five under Flick, who took over from Joachim Loew after Euro 2020.”
Good news for Timo and Kai which will do their confidence a world of good.October 12, 2021 at 8:07 pm #2003630
“Chelsea supporters have been left in dismay after learning that Anthony Taylor will referee their Premier League clash against Brentford while pointing out a string of recent contentious decisions.”October 13, 2021 at 12:55 pm #2003870
Taylor not good news hope it goes well, these type of games is a must win despite Brentfords good current form. Would like to see Loftus Cheek starting. Jorginho can always come on later to change the tempo of the game if it’s not going our way.October 13, 2021 at 2:35 pm #2003928
Hope Kante is OK and I also believe Loftus and Chillwill should start. Hope we play with only 2 holders. We need more creativty upfront for Lukaku.October 13, 2021 at 5:56 pm #2004000
Surely against teams like Brentford we going to go with 3 attacking midfielders, think that is really our weak area especially with Pulisic injured and Ziyech not really hitting it off. Too much pressure on Mount though Harvetz also needs to step up. Will be an interesting weekend.October 14, 2021 at 9:46 am #2004107
I remember years ago, 1998 to 1999 season and Charlton Athletic being promoted to the Premier League and being almost top of the table after about a dozen matches and ended up being relegated. Brentford may be doing something similar, riding on a wave of confidence although their 3-3 draw with Liverpool was an impressive result. All it takes is a run of matches against the elite, a bunch of losses, it can become a habit. We must however show them all the respect they deserve or we could get hurt. As I said, treat it like a Cup final and we should be alright. Small ground with 17,000 capacity, supporters baying for blood (a bit like the atmosphere we have experienced against the likes of Galatasaray in Turkey :)))) , it could be a hostile atmosphere which we will have to overcome and it’s yet another London derby so they will really be up for it.October 14, 2021 at 11:18 am #2004148
It is true not talking about the yo-yo clubs but new teams promoted after many years in lower leagues seem to regularly start off extremely well before collapsing later in the season or in the following seasons. I expect Brentford to still do well for a while. But tbh with our class, pedigree and depth we should and have to win this one.October 14, 2021 at 5:00 pm #2004338
Still no news about Lukaku and Rudiger. I hope they heal for the match. We cannot underestimate Brentford, what a good football they play. Mbeumo, Toney, I think they are solid and I don’t believe they will face relegation battle, at least for this season. We needed a red card to win against Southampton away, a team with no win this season. Now the moment is worse with most of our players just came back from international duty.
While RLC has played well recently, this time I think we need Jorginho to start and I would pair him with Kante to win balls in midfield. His passing, we need it. Just my gut, I think that Rudiger would make it as Germany’s coach wasn’t too worried but Lukaku would not.

It won’t be easy Aindro playing the European Champions at home is massive for Brentford and their fans but the above team if they’ll all fit should be good enough.🤞October 15, 2021 at 11:00 am #2004573
No Lukaku then. That’s disappointing. Muscle fatigue and withdrew from Belgium’s squad. Thinking a draw now although something tells me he’ll be fit. If he plays I think we win. He was my tip to get the winner in a 1-0 result.October 15, 2021 at 11:36 am #2004617
chelsea1967: Lukaku trained yesterday. So I think he will be in the squad. Rudiger was not seen in training though.October 15, 2021 at 12:23 pm #2004698
Ah thanks aindro. Rudiger would be a big miss if he is out of the side.October 15, 2021 at 1:48 pm #2004763
Silva out due to late arrival from Brazil, Rudiger out, Pulasic out and probably Ziyech out too who missed training with a headache but Lukaku fit. Hopefully Kante and James return?
Tuchel says Brentford “will be up for it” and have waited a long time to play Chelsea in the league. He expects them to play with courage and confidence and that his team must “adapt” to this and be ready. “We have to match the mentality and attitude,” and play like underdogs themselves”October 16, 2021 at 12:55 pm #2005345
Tuchel has alot of choices
I think Werner deserves another go after his goals for the germans
Tough one between Havertz and Mount
Both are off it a bit
I think we should stick to our 3 cb system but play on the front foot and squeeze them. Can always employ a flat back 4 to allow an extra creative player upfront.October 16, 2021 at 1:20 pm #2005372
I think Tuchel will start both Mount and Werner but we’ll see.October 16, 2021 at 2:16 pm #2005423
Bit disappointing to see Gilmour on the bench again for Norwich. He starred for Scotland. I was never in favor of that particular move. Anyway good luck to Chelsea today, not an easy game at all.
