I would like to think we had a recall clause on Gilmour in January due to lack of game time even if to loan Gilmour to another Club for the rest of the season where he would get guaranteed game time although I’m not sure we have one.

Presumably we chose Norwich because we believed they would give Gilmour guaranteed game time, Gilmour has performed well for Scotland albeit not against top teams but for some reasons only known to Farke he isn’t selecting him.

Very surprising line up from Tuchel. Sarr starts? Tuchel must have seen something specil from him at the training to start him in this derby game. i’m also happy to see Loftus Cheek start his second game in a row, may be that was down to the fact that he didn’t go to the internationals and had two weeks of training with Tuchel. also delighted to see Kante back in that midfield. but i have to say, we will miss Mount and Jorginho. Mount is our chief goal or chances creator, while Jorginho controls the tempo for us and calms the situation.

To play devil’s advocate, i would have started Barkley for this game instead of Kovacic. granted Brentford will sit and have as many men behind the all as possible. so Barkley’s vision could be a game cnanger IMO. but i trust Tuchel’s judgement since he has proven his credentials.

Agreed! Sarr? I expected James to start to supply our forwards with crosses. Cannot watch unfortunately as I have to do some errands, would see the recording later on tonite and am trying not to check my cellphone after this!! Werner Lukaku, would the partnership be fruitful?

I would prefer Havertz as he is technical, would be a big help for only small space that Brentford would give us. Our backline changes almost completely, hope they will do well. A tricky match IMO, banana skin

Thought we just about deserved the win cause we were in control except for the last 25 minutes when they threw everything at us. I don’t know how we managed to survive but mainly thanks to Mendy, Loftus Cheek has finally turned the corner and should now be a regular starter. Kante also played well, Lukaku was offside for nearly the whole game, Werner failed to impress, it was nevertheless a good win and I’m surprised how well Brentford has done so far. Finally another great goal by Chillwill. I watched the Liverpool and City games I don’t believe we quite up there with them despite our current top position. Yes Liverpool are very reliant on the front 3 but City are different class.

To be honest, i don’t give monkeys to us playing expansive football. but i remember us trying that and playing it, where we hit the woodwork five times, had 86%, had 13 shots 6-7 on target, had 15 corners. but still lost the game 1-0. so i’m fully content with how Tuchel sees the game these days. adapt every situation as it is. and every time we play, Tuchel seems to uncover a gem. so this week he has uncovered Malang Sarr, who i thought filled the Rudiger void perfectly. and what gave him more advantaage was that he is a natural left footed player. i like how that lad played tonight.

some players are coming back to life now, while some are playing off colours. Chilwell, Loftus Cheek are coming to life, while Mount and Havertz as well as Lukaku are playing off colours. i think the sooner Tuchel finds the solution to our lack of creativity for our strikers, the better for our team. may be the solution is right in our doorstep. Barkley could be an answer from now until January? and if he grabs his opportunity, then it saves money, like the presence of Sarr have saved Money that would have spent on Kunde. and if Sarr plays like that whenever he is given the opportunity, and assuming Rudiger commits his future to the club, then i see no reason why we should sign Kunde.

All in all, the club is heading in the right direciton. we have addressed the first step which was our weakness under Lampard which was our defence, i remember in 2019/20 season we conceded a rcord 54 goals in the league fora top four club. everyone was giving us the stick. now that have been addressed, may Tuchel will address the chance creation thing. we need to give him the time he needs to steady the ship to the promised land.

Disrupted week from Internationals, key players Rudiger and Silva missing, an away match against a side at the top of their game and in the main had all their players at home (I assume) plotting our downfall or so they believed. Yes we were lucky second half so I think we tired after half time as the game progressed past 55 minutes and they took advantage of that however three points in the bag probably miraculously but for Mendy heroics. Absolutely cracking goal by Chilwell that woke me right up as the eyes started to close at about 4.10am and I picked the score again. Happy days.

Just finished watching the recording. I think we were extremely lucky to snatch a win. Brentford clearly were the better team all 2nd half. We have Mendy to thank, a world class performance today. Cudicini, de Goey, Cech, Courtois, now Mendy. World class goalies continue. It was a wrong move to introduce Mount IMO. We lost the midfield right away without Kovacic.

Happy for Sarr, a debut for Chelsea and it was a good one. Chalobah looked sloppy though. No idea what Lukaku & Werner were doing. Offside all the time, each missed a sitter though they would have been disallowed anyway due to offside. At least Kanté, RLC & Chilwell were good. A win is important and it’s all that matters today

Would Kepa have kept a clean sheet today? We were fortunate we had a fully focussed on top of his game Mendy today or we would have been embarrassed. The dangers of interruptions and loss of key players due to these Internationals could never have been more apparent than that second half. No Jorginho and taking Kovacic off unsettled the mid field and placed us in extreme danger of it all falling apart. This was supposed to be a banana skin match moreso due to the circumstances and we somehow came through it with not only the three points also a clean sheet. Amazing really.

Even with a couple of players missing I still find it hard to understand how Brentford can dominate the 2nd half the way they did, something is not right, I couldn’t wait for the ref to blow the final whistle as you felt every time they attacked a goal was coming. Yes we can be grateful to Mendy but we can’t rely on him all the time. Glad Chillwill is back to his best, Lukaku and Werner were poor upfront and hopefully Pulisic is back and can stay injury free. Suppose we should be grateful as we also had an inexpiernced defence but Loftus Cheek and Kante were great though they did fall away towards the end probably ran out of wind.

Based on the first 65 minutes we deserved the win though I hope Tuchel will sort that out so we don’t fall away so badly in that last quarter. Lukaku is not getting the ball quickly enough that’s why his wondering offside so often.I was hoping based on his more recent performances Werner had turned the corner. I also don’t think that back 3 compliment each other too well as they way too similar in style. But they did OK under the circumstances. We should have most players available for the next game I hope. It’s a decent run of games coming up.

I think Brentfords secret is their fitness, I noticed in their games they stay strong till the end while far better teams tire. Anyway the points are in the bag and that’s what counts although a lot of work for Tuchel to sort out.

A lot of work to sort out? This is one performance off the back of an International break where the majority of our players were on International duty for two weeks and were probably fatigued and had little time together with Tuchel to prepare for the match. In the meantime I’m guessing that Brentford were mainly rested up and focussed on Chelsea and not much else although not sure about their circumstances with International representation. Our defence was radically changed with the loss of both Silva and Rudiger and there was no Jorginho. Back to training for the next one as per normal. play mostly bench players v Malmo and the majority of the main eleven focus on the next Premier League game which is Norwich at home. If we tire second half against them and are under the pump like against Brentford then maybe there could be some soul searching. All is good right now. A potential banana skin avoided fortunately.

That was almost a ridiculous team selection and how lucky we are to have Mendy and goal posts to save us. Hope he gets his mind right as far as team selection is concerned but then again it’s only Norwich suppose you can play just about any combination for them.

Maybe he should have brought in John Terry at the age of 40 instead Moos. Wasn’t that RIDICULOUS idea recently a suggestion of yours?
