Very very difficult game I would gladly take a draw now.
Football London’s predicted team:?
Potential Chelsea XI: Kepa; Christensen, Silva, Rudiger; Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kante, Alonso; Mount, Havertz, Werner.
January 14, 2022 at 10:57 am #2041268If we intend to beat City and compete, then we need to do two things, number 1 we need to cut, the silly mistakes we are making at the back or in midfield, otherwise City will punish us like Liverpool did. Number 2, we need to be more clinical with the limited chances we will get. Our wastefullness in front of goal is much publicised, but if there is a game we cannot afford to be wasteful, it’s our game tomorrow.
We have an attacking array of players who can take the game to City, all we need is to move the ball quicker. And one thing that worries me the most is these silly thing called playing from the back when we don’t have those players. And the back pass to the keeper is a sucide. I would drop Lukaku and play Havertz instead, with Pulisic and Mount behind him. Kante Kovacic will be my preferred CM pairing. Wing backs we know who will play, back 3 of Rudiger, Silva and Sarr will do the trick if we decide that. I heard Tuchel say Christensen is out.
We have nothing to lose but everything to gain, so we need to play without any pressure. Hope we don’t lose.
January 14, 2022 at 1:29 pm #2041359Christensen is out due to positive covid test. I think Man City are the favorite here. They play at home and they are the team on fire. They’ve always won for I don’t know how many matches. For me any other result than a defeat would be a good one. I would try to revert to 3 midfield to counter theirs.
My team (3-5-2): Kepa – Azpi, Thiago Silva, Rudiger – Hudson-Odoi, Kanté, Jorginho, Kovacic, Alonso – Lukaku, WernerI reckon that City will try to dominate as always. We would need our speedy players to counter them. Werner could come handy there and just hoping that his finishing will be all right this time.
January 14, 2022 at 2:55 pm #2041409I wonder if the loss of Christiansen may lead Tuchel to playing a back 4 v City as per v Spurs with Sarr playing left back again?
January 14, 2022 at 3:22 pm #2041431There’s no way you can play both Lukaku and Werner for this particular game, we need a proper midfield defensive and attacking midfielders. I think this is a possible team that could give a good account of themselves assuming Tuchel stays with his system . Kepa
Christensen Silva Rudiger
Azpliqueta Kante Kovacic Alonso
Mount Lukaku Pulisic
January 14, 2022 at 6:57 pm #2041526I thought our game was based on ball retention and playing out from the back and that we did that quite well. If we just keep blasting the ball forward out of defence then City will dominate possession and eventually break us down and score to get the win. Here to be corrected.
January 14, 2022 at 11:22 pm #2041606Well, as much as you would like to oppose my views, you habe to know that this playing from the back thing never works when teams press is very hard. You have seen against West Ham, agianst Liverpool and countless times where we survived frim getting punished. If we try to do that tomorrow, i will tell you it could be our downfall, the back pass to the keeper is also a sucide, Jorginho is predictable that he will pass to the keeper when pressured by midfielders, that is why i prefer Kante and Kovacic with a fluid front 3 of Mount, Havertz and Pulisic to match City in midfield numbers, because their false nine always drops deep to give them advantage in numbers from the midfield.
January 15, 2022 at 2:17 am #2041609We will see in about 11 hours time. Tuchel knows better than us so we will see his approach. You may well be right Wise Fan and I am not totally disagreeing with what you say but these guys have been playing out of defence against all opposition and are pretty adept at it apart from the odd error and that happens to all teams when pressed. Our record against City under Tuchel suggests he knows how to approach it. The last performance earlier this season was our worst and Tuchel has already acknowledged it so lets look forward with anticipation and not trepidation as to what will unfold. Agree that I would prefer to see a partnership of Kante and Kovacic in our mid field for this match.
January 15, 2022 at 2:24 am #2041610Oh the result. Forced to put a few hard earned on it I’d say an exciting 2-2 draw. Should be a great match. They’ll be up for it and so will we.
January 15, 2022 at 4:42 am #2041611Well, i will not settle for anything less than a win. I would predict a scrapy 1-2 result for Chelsea. But that is if we are clinical and Lukaku turns up for the game. I saw alot of people saying Werner Should start. We don’t need runners, we need clinical players, that is why i prefer Pulisic. And why i prefer Havertz over Lukaku because he gives us numbers in midfield when City overcrowds. Mount is the third man and no one is questioning his spot. But i suspect Tuchel will start Lukaku.
January 15, 2022 at 4:48 am #2041612That is the spirit WF 2-1 to us and Lukaku giving them hell up front Reasonable kick off time here in Australia @ 11.30pm AEST so I get a reasonable sleep afterwards. Enjoy the match 🙂
January 15, 2022 at 7:50 am #2041621Who knows what Tommy is thinking re team selection only him I guess.
I’ve got a feeling though he may play Havertz from the start and maybe use Lukaku if necessary as an impact sub???
Very tough game against the best team in the country probably Europe now too happily settle for the draw right now!😊🤞
January 15, 2022 at 10:08 am #2041654We need to be careful with who we deal with in the transfer market. I don’t know why we often appear weak in the transfer market. I was reading that we were begging Lyon to accept a £3m for our own player. And if he was a Lyon player, he would be costing us £50m. Southampton are trying to steal one of our brightest strikers from under our noses. Clubs have condidence when dealing with us. I don’t know where the Southampton boss got the confidence to come out and say, they will keep Broja beyond his loan.
Now, going forward, we need to include recall clauses to our player’s loan clauses. Any club who doesn’t accept should not be signing them.
January 15, 2022 at 10:19 am #2041663As usual Wiseguy your views are spot on. Up dem Mighty Blues.
January 15, 2022 at 11:38 am #2041681Kepa, Azpi Rudiger, Silva, Sarr, alonso, Kante, Kovacic, Ziyech, Pulisic and Lukaku. That pretty surprising line up, given Mount who is our best player has been dropped? I hope it doesn’t back fire on Tuchel.
January 15, 2022 at 11:41 am #2041685Kepa, Rudiger, Silva, Sarr, Azpi, Kante, Kovacic, Alonso, Ziyech, Lukaku and Pulisic.
Not having Chilwell and James is a huge miss against City, moreso than any other team so let’s hope City don’t exploit our perceived deficiencies minus those two.
Glad to see Kante and Kovacic starting – solid set up in front of the defence and could be more fluent on the counter. Let’s hope for the best !! Picked result as 2-2 now thinking we can restrict City and might win so let’s run with WFs pick of 2-1 Chelsea, so yeah let’s do it boys.
January 15, 2022 at 11:57 am #2041692Don’t agree with Sar too inexperienced for such opposition or Ziyech a lazy player. Hope Tuchel knows what his doing. Alonso is also a weak link.
January 15, 2022 at 1:20 pm #2041715Pretty embarrassing first half by our standards. If we habour any intention of dethroning City, we need to play better than we did in the first half of this game.
January 15, 2022 at 1:34 pm #2041722Pulisic did nothing, Ziyech stuffed up everything and overall we battled for 0-0 and nearly buggered that up. Zero attempts on goal Alonso and Kovacic both a danger of a 2nd yellow. A few changes needed to turn this performance around. Bring on Mount and Havertz before it is too late. Expect an very early goal one way or the other 2nd half. Can feel it in the water.
January 15, 2022 at 1:48 pm #2041728Reece James is a massive miss in this football team especially in the big games. Chilwell also however James moreso. 2nd half and Zyech unbelievably poor. Indecisive and error riddled. Lukaku not doing much either. Some Tuchel magic with strategic changes needed. Something needs to change big time or we are heading for an inevitable defeat. Even at nil nil can only see them knicking a winner.
