It’s never a good thing to kick off early after internationals as we have so many international players. I have no idea who is fit or even who is back. Is Havertz fit after coronavirus? I think we should play a player like Azpi who did not go to international for freshness reason. Mendy and Ziyech last played Sunday and Monday respectively, hopefully they are fresh.

    My team (4-3-3): Mendy – James,Zouma,Rudiger,Azpi – Kante,Jorginho,Mount – Werner,Abraham,Ziyech

The game is a 12:30 pm ko and live on BT Sport.

Chilwell was on the bench last night so hopefully he’s ok to start,

I very much doubt Silva will travel he’s had a 30 hour plus round flight to Captain Brazil v Uraguay and he will almost certainly be rested imo possibly with Rennes in mind next Tuesday. Rudiger to come in to replace him?

Newcastle away is always a tough game I expect Kovacic to play. Harvertz has returned to training perhaps on the bench. Pulasic not ready yet.

I expect the team v Newcastle to be close to: Mendy, James,Zouma, Rudiger, Chilwell/ Mount, Kante, Kovacic/ Ziyech, Abraham, Werner.

If there are any doubts about Chilwell I would expect Azpi to deputise.

From Frank’s pre match press conference.

Sounds like Frank might be concerned about Mount starting given him starting 3 games for England he will be assessed.

Lampard points to the increase in muscle injuries among Premier League players and says it is “clear” the scheduling is a factor.

Lampard admits an away trip to Newcastle is not ideal after so many players being away on international duty and questions why the game needs to kick off at 12.30pm. “It’s absolutely not the optimum way for players to prepare for a Premier League game,” he says

From TT: Lampard confirms Havertz has trained the last 2 days. So I think he should be ready for this match. Thiago Silva will NOT be travelling, so expect Rudiger to deputize. Agree nine, Newcastle away is never easy. Moreover it seems to me they are kinda not easy to predict this season. They’ve got good results. And they have good players: Wilson, St Maximin, Fraser … so yeah they may hurt us there as we are tired and will play without pur best defender Thiago Silva. And probably without Chilwell too.

Aindro, yes the first report from the press conference seemed to suggest Harvertz wasn’t quite ready, updated reports suggest he might be.

Be suprised if he starts but you never know though. 🤞

Frank has said he thinks Chilwell will be ok but he needs to see him this afternoon?

” Lampard is asked about Ben Chilwell. He says he hasn’t seen the player yet but he feels “positive” about Chilwell’s chances of being fit this weekend.” 🤞

So ahead of the Newcastle game. No Silva, bit of a question mark against Chilwell,Harvertz travels after recently getting over Covid but is probably more likely to make the bench,no Pulasic again, question mark against Mount due to playing all 3 games for England thanks Gareth.😊 Gilmour not ready yet for inclusion in the squad, Werner didn’t train today??

More questions than answers but that’s what squads are for and there’s there’s no point complaining about it Frank will select the best team he can taking everything into account and hopefully that will be good enough.🤞

Werner did not train yesterday. But he trained today. So I reckon he should start tomorrow.

Werner concerns over it appears we were waiting for his Covid test to be clear before he took to the training pitch which it was and he subsequently did.😊

Cannot believe our recent record at St James Park. One win in 9 or something ridiculous. Let’s change that tomorrow please. We have the likes of City/Spurs and Leicester/Liverpool. A win for us and those sides drawing would be lovely.

We cannot underestimate Newcastle. They have tight defense and good attackers. If we win, I think it will be 1-0 or 2-1. Considering the fatigue factor

A really good match of Chelsea. Werner could have had a hattrick but he was so wasteful today. I think it’s the fatigue factor. But a win, and another clean sheet …… whaaatt. Mendy did really good everytime being called in action. All in all a comfortable victory for Chelsea. Much easier than I expected.

Quality run and assist from Werner. He always contributes.

Should have been more but this was a tricky game right after the international break with all the players returning from all over the world most only getting back on Thursday afternoon and then off again on Friday for a difficult trip to Newcastle with a 12:30 ko. Plus Newcastle retained all but a couple of their player at the training ground which gave them two weeks to prepare for todays game.

All the Chelsea players were a level down today imo because of the above which was probably understandable.

Silva, Pulasic and Harvertz still to back come in.

Hopefully Chelsea can improve on last season’s position and finish a bit closer to both City and Liverpool and who knows what eventually might happen.😊

    Call the title NOW!😊

Really pleased with that lads, like everyone else I thought this would be tough after the break but such a professional performance and vital 3 points ahead of spurs game which will be a massive test.

Love it when we win early on Saturday because it is a lot easier to enjoy the other games, can’t wait for city v spurs and Brighton playing well against villa. Barkley off early with hamstring which is a real gutter because he was starting to show some consistency.

Second that Lucky if you play first and don’t get the right result of even worse you lose it’s difficult to watch the other games and enjoy them whereas a win lets you sit back and enjoy them.

Spurs v City and Liverpool v Leicester could be stonking but as you say this Villa v Brighton game is a good watch.

A really pleasing performance. So impressed with Mason Mount. He runs all day, presses brilliantly, and still has enough in him to be creative. The team as a whole are actually very good at pressing and winning the ball back. Bewcastle couldn’t get the ball out of their own half before the interval.

Also hylle, if you remember the Palace game they got a lot of stick for being poor but I thought that was because we were so good at winning the ball back early and nipping all countering opportunities in the bud. Same against Burnley and Sheffield utd, and today as you point out

Werner needs to be a little more selfish and take all these chances. He gave up at least two opportunities squaring the ball back instead of shooting when he had a clear chance to score. Great win soured slightly later in the evening with United being gifted 3 points. I thought the referee would only reverse a penalty decision if it was clear he had made an error. The defender barely nicked the ball before taking out the attacker. Surely that should have remained a penalty. Pity about the United penalty being retaken although that was the right decision. Just seems they forever get big decisions in their favour more often than not – even post Fergie.

Yes for me too our win was a bit soured by the spurs and united games, I have no regrets if a rival teams wins deservedly but to see spurs and united win in that manner makes me not want to see them play again. We can only go forward and worry about our games I suppose.

Totally agree here with 1967 and BO it’s not right for teams to win nearly every game like spurs and united are currently. All teams have a bit of luck in some games but not so much. Anyway Chelsea did well but we need to bury those easy chances, we may not get them against stronger teams.
