Had another look at that Silva hand ball, yellow card was definitely the correct decision, Chillwill was standing adjacent and would have easily tackled or attempted a tackle on the Palace player. Plus there was 2 players tracking back that could have caught him. I don’t know why so many of these tv pundits get it wrong so often.

Not that far away 10 November 2022 EFL 3rd round away at City. Being a domestic cup match maybe they will rest him and save us the anxiety. 3 January 2023 at the Bridge the subsequent match and our first clash in the Premiership. That’ll be scary but at least we have some time to learn how to park the bus and shackle him.

What’s going on at Liverpool. Wouldn’t have minded getting that match out of the road a few weeks back Chelsea v Liverpool at the Bridge. At the time I was relieved but on their current form we may have got an elusive win. By the time we get to play that one they’ll be back with a vengeance and pretty much unbeatable.

Honestly we shouldn’t think about City too much. At least yet. We still have a lot of work inside. Potter hasn’t found yet the formula. His system hasn’t shown yet, which is normal as he just joined us a month ago and yesterday was only his second match. I kinda agree with him, more matches, better, as the team really needs to apply his ideas in real matches. Trainings aren’t the same.

I can’t watch UCL, so I will just find out the result later. But this is a perfect occasion for the team to show up. To start to implement Potter’s strategy, slowly but sure. So we saw some good individual performances last weekend, Auba scored a typical striker goal, James not as eyecatching as usual nonetheless very solid, Thiago Silva decisive, Kepa did not make any mistake, Gallagher can shoot… Not sure why articles were raving about Sterling, I found him bad & wasteful against Palace. Not intelligent at all, made bad decisions & slowed up our play.

So I would expect to keep the same players against Milan but Cucurella comes in for Chilwell who played real bad. Not sure about Jorginho, as Gallagher cannot provide the same defensive ability but I can see Gallagher taking over his position.

I agree with 9, it was good to see Potter getting a win regardless of the performance.

From his comments after the game I am not sure this is his settled formation as he stated he felt a back 4 was better for this game, and the fact Cucurella was ill may have forced his hand.

When you have undoubtedly the best wing backs in the prem it would be a no brainer to play to their strengths. However imo I think Potter does not have the confidence in Jorghino and or Kova to play the defensive cover as effectively as Kante does when these guys bomb on. I read last week that he saw Chalobah more as a defensive mid so will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

I don’t expect there to be wholesale changes to the team between now and the World Cup, however I imagine that many of the Prem teams will have “Behind closed door friendlies” November and December so the second half of the season could be very interesting.

Best wing back in Reece James. Who can also play centre back. I don’t think Chilwell is already at his best yet after his bad injury. Cucurella, I don’t rate him. But seeing how Chilwell played in the weekend, I don’t think Chilwell is ready to start. He is rusty.

It’s always nice to have a win. Potter’s first win. I am really happy. And I’d said that I would just enjoy the match and wouldn’t judge anything. But Palace IMO weren’t good, at all. And we had really hard time to beat them. So there are things, a lot of things that Potter needs to work on.

Looking at how Gallagher can shoot from outside the box, and neither Kovacic nor Jorginho could do that, I think Potter would need to tweak the formation. How to start Gallagher without weakening our defense.
