Seems like VVD hasn’t given up on moving in January and his latest statement maybe reflecting that it could be a possibility? Ultimately this all depends on Southampton though and their willingness to let this happen.October 4, 2017 at 2:00 pm #1540856

It’s not going to be easy mwake. I also think another team or two will bid for him too.October 4, 2017 at 2:00 pm #1540857
Southampton could scupper it again Mwake. I have a feeling it the move happens it might have to wait until the summer. Having our defence eggs in one basket puts us over a barrel with Southampton.October 4, 2017 at 3:02 pm #1540892
Could Klopp’s obsession with Virgil cost him his job?October 4, 2017 at 3:19 pm #1540903
One can hope.October 5, 2017 at 10:48 am #1541254
Shanksy, I’m pretty certain that Klopp will eventually get his man.
It was obvious that Klopp wanted Van Dijk to lead the backline and it’s obvious that Klopp has not given up on getting his target.
Personally I think he is right to take this gamble, we might have a few more points of we had bought another centre back but only Van Dijk is good enough for a title challenge.October 5, 2017 at 11:10 am #1541265
Title challenge ? perhaps if VVD had arrived in Summer along with Keita – but now on hold til next year – if Klopp is still here?October 5, 2017 at 11:17 am #1541267
There needs to be some business done in Jan, there will be too much to get done next summer.
It’s not gonnna be unreasonable to think that posssibly Can and/or Coutinho will leave next summer. We need 2 centrebacks, at least one midfielder and a striker.
Kieta covers one of the midfield spots needed but that still leave a lot of business to get done in the summer.
If we can only make 1 signing this Jan, make it a centreback which will help shore up the defence and one off the to do list for next Jan.
If we only concentrated on our spine for the next 2 windows we’ll go a long way to greatly improving this team.October 5, 2017 at 12:01 pm #1541289
Agree. We must get some transfers in january. People say its a tough window but theres been some very good signings done in january. We bought Coutinho and suarez in january and if im not mistaken utd bought vidic and evra in january. Also january signings would have half a season to sttle into the club before the start of next season.October 5, 2017 at 12:02 pm #1541290
Yeah a title challenge, with Matip and Van Dijk as our central pairing we can challenge for the next 5-6 years. I reckon that partnership is strong enough.October 5, 2017 at 12:23 pm #1541303
Where do we stand if we don’t get top 4 (I’m very confident we won’t), didn’t VVD want a C/L club. As ginger said we will more than likely lose Couts & Can as well. Too little too late planning on improvements next summer, we needed them for this season.
I agree with the article put up by AK, Klopp is not the saviour some believe he is & Even if we happen to jag VVD in Jan (again don’t think we will) not only will it probably be too late, it won’t all of a sudden rescue our season. We are a 1 dimensional team that has 1 & only 1 way of playing & teams have it figures out. I don’t know where we go from here but I don’t think Klopp is the 1 to take us back to the top. I hope some on here are right but if nothing has changed yet I don’t think it will so we can expect more of the same.October 5, 2017 at 1:54 pm #1541350

Seemingly VVD is still keen on joining Liverpool despite the question marks against future CL qualification and Liverpool are still keen on signing him it will now come down to two things:
1) Are Southampton prepared to sell VVD in January.
2) Are Southampton prepared to sell VVD to Liverpool given their previous angst.
We’ll know soon enough.😊
But despite being an obvious step in the right direction VVD won’t be a magic solution that will heal all of Liverpool’s defensive frailties it goes deeper than that and includes managerial philosophy and commitment to the defensive side of the game as well the ability in defensive Coaching and the uncertainty that surrounds the Keeper position.October 5, 2017 at 2:13 pm #1541362

Nine, it may also depend on how well we are doing in Jan too. 10 points off 4th and he may re-consider. So many variables but, we don’t know, a deal may have been done already with a view to him moving here in the New Year. Lots of underground stuff we never get to know about.October 5, 2017 at 3:28 pm #1541385
We got one centre back that is good enough for a top team, Lovren is a shadow of his mediocre self right now while pill popping painkillers to get through games.
We are missing our most consistent defensive player in Clyne while alternating between two promising youngsters instead.
There is no need to change everything, we just need to fill up the gap in the central defendse and get Van Dijk. Stop relying on youth players to deliver and things will settle at the back.October 5, 2017 at 8:21 pm #1541467
Abdolute nonense that VVD is the only defender who can lead us to a title challenge.October 5, 2017 at 8:34 pm #1541472
Aussie I don’t think we are one dimensional but Klopp does need to mix things up. VVD would make a big difference but so would have a dozen defenders.October 5, 2017 at 8:46 pm #1541478

Perhaps he is not the only one but he is still the best in this league and the most likely candidate to lead our the backline for trophies.
He is also the one with the most desire to play for us, that counts IMO.
The rest of the names mentioned in the summer window were 2nd rate talent in foreign leagues, priced at 50-60 million, not one of the top defenders in Italy, France, Germany or Spain wanted a move to Anfield.
There wasn’t much action going around besides Bonucci worth having except Van Dijk. I’ll give you those twoOctober 5, 2017 at 10:57 pm #1541515
Bingo he would indeed be 1 of if not the best CB in the EPL but I don’t think he would be the saviour some think he will be. It will be interesting to see how he goes being continually exposed as everyone goes forward. No doubt he will not make some of the schoolboy errors the comedy show we currently have at the back are making but he isn’t superman & won’t fix it on his own. IMO we need a DM with discipline who can read a game & know when to help at the back. Keita is not that player as we will probably use him as a box to box.
Ultimately I believe we are 4 or 5 1st team players from challenging for anything.October 6, 2017 at 5:24 am #1541532
Bingo how exactly do you know that not one of the top defenders wanted to come … we clearly weren’t even interested and went all out for VVD which has so far screwed our aspirations big time and even had some questioning Klopp.
2 cb were needed and despite what you say the chuckles brothers could have improved our defence and Lovren, Klavan etc. are simply not up to it.
As already debated there were cb who would have massively improved us and who have as much ‘pedigree’ as VVD. It could have been VVD and another.
Just remember it isn’t guaranteed that we will get VVD in Jan.
One hell of an uneccessary risk.
