Well, they always say be careful what you wish for and here you have it.

We needed a manager who understands the Championship and instead we have a continental managerial journeyman – one of Mendes’s mates to boot.

This is going from bad to worse I am afraid.

Plenty to be worried about but basically it looks like they are going to buy an off the peg team to get into the prem. I expect the next six months to be punctuated with people exiting stage right and being bought in stage left on a perpetual turnstile.
The new owners may not know much about footie but they know marketing and they have to get Wolves in the correct position before the marketing bears fruit. I expected a cold business approach and so far I’ve seen nothing to change that view.
We are about to out plastic every team in English football so we had better get used to it before the inevitable breakaway and the formation of FC Wolves of Wolverhampton.
Older fans like me may not be enthusiastic but no doubt fans who never saw Peter Knowles or Ron Flowers etc will be over the moon so I will enjoy their enjoyment for a couple of seasons.
This will end badly one way or the other but we can all have a laugh in the meantime, one of my legs has turned into plastic already.

They were never going to pick a Bruce, they think they can get up with a European manager. It will take a couple of failures before they change their mind. I am sceptical about Zenga but lets not write him off before he starts. We are unlikely to start well as they are loads of players to come in and make into a team – it will take a few months.

I Share many of the concerns and feelings written about above but , as we must all do, hope my fears will be dashed eventually and the club will beable to go from strength to strength. One of the many reservations I have is in regard to the strength of the Portuguese league in relation to the Championship; It is, overall, rated a lower league with the Championship being rated sixth best league in Europe at one time. So discards from such a league may seem worrying. However Benfica are a much more highly regarded team who play in Europe regularly, so that may outweigh my initial fear; time will tell. Technically they will be good but are they strong enough to be a success in the Championship? This league is, imo, stronger than ever before at present and should prove more difficult to escape from via promotion than before with the quality of clubs within it and the amounts being spent by many to get back to the Premiership.

Looking at this guys record one could be forgiven for asking is it actually a temporary position however I imagine he will be gone by October if we are off the pace. Very wary indeed about the future, still Water could be a Carlos Cavalho(or however it is spelt) like at Sheff Wed.

Guys, you are living in a delusional fantasy world. Some simple questions? When did Shi first meet, or indeed hear of, Walter Zenga? When did Kevin Thelwell first hear of Bodvarsson? Answer to both? They didn’t even know their names until Mendes told them they were being signed. Shi hasn’t a clue about professional football. He calls Mendes his friend? His friend? Mendes acts for the players Mr Shi, not the club and the only friend he has is cold hard cash. This is a disaster in the making, make no mistake. Fosun will be ripped off by Mendes and his bottom rung players and as soon as the penny drops Fosun will move Shi on and lose interest having lost a shed load of cash. Mark my words.

I think he will last a lot longer than October arddunby because it will take at least until then to bed all these players in and getting everyone playing his way. My guess the run up to the transfer window in January will be critical for him. As for the signings Debenham I disagree I think we have signed some really good players but (and there is always a but isn’t there!) just because they are good doesn’t mean that this will translate into success in the championship. Some will be great right off , some will take half a season to settle, some never wil. I think they look good on paper and have a good pedigree who knows which one will be a Sako and which one will be a Doumbia ! These really are exciting times, today we signed a CF tomorrow who knows !

Oh Vinniw you old misery ! Want Morgan back do you ? Do I trust Mendes – certainly not but given the size of the business Shi is no idiot. This is a long term investment for them and if Mendes doesn’t deliver he will out on his ear as quickly as Zenga. I don’t think they are bottom rung players which doesn’t mean to say I think they will all be huge a success either. Also interestingly I don’t see us spending a lot of money at the moment which in the circumstances might reflect caution about Zenga. Lets give them a chance shall we ?

I agree, Watford; they are good players, but whether they are suitable for the Championship and can adapt quickly enough we will have to wait to find out. As you say, some may be good for us and some may not be suited. Vinniw makes some worthwhile points as, unfortunately, his premise could come to fruition; I just don’t know as yet. I, too, remain wary of Mr Mendes’ influence until proven beneficial to the club. I certainly have no real idea as to how things will turn out and will not feel able to judge fairly for some time. Hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised eventually but I wont be putting any money on it as yet. I tend to feel much as Watford says at the moment; we have to give them, the new set up, and the players the chance to bed in and prove themselves. It will take some time to initiate the new players and formulate the team. The Wolves fans have displayed great patience over the past few seasons; seems more is needed; a big ask…

watford, I don’t think my post says that I want Morgan back unless your computer distorts words. Watch the full press conference available on the E&S. Suddenly Moxey looks the sanest man in the room.

Vinnw Moxey always was the sanest man, we will sorely miss him. My point about Morgan was if you wanted him replaced who on earth did you expect to replace him ? The buyers were always likely to be foreign and probably Chinese as they are buying up clubs across the world. This is the world we are in now , the new owners will give us a higher base to kick on from possibly to the prem. It may go wrong as you suggest but it’s the risk we have to take surely ?

You seem to have left a question mark off the title Vinni, or was it more a statement of fact?! Well at least your giving the new guy a chance eh! I admit he wouldn’t have been my choice (as stated that would have been Bruce as well) but hey Fosun have just spent a pretty penny so I guess they have earned the right to take that chance.

Have to be honest (and this is FAR from aimed at just Vinni) but I am ENTIRELY baffled by just how much negativity there is flying around these forums at the moment. We wanted a billionaire….but for some reason its the wrong ones?! We wanted someone who was in a it as more than a foible…yet peeps moan that Fosun are a (successful) investment company?! Oh if only Morgan had taken some advice from someone within football…how about the most famous agent in the game?! Well of course no not THAT guy, we don’t trust him!
I mean for godness sake people I am starting to sympathise with Mr Morgan and that’s saying something! I do wonder if moaning just comes more naturally to us Wolves fans because we’ve had SO many years of practice? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m not saying ‘next stop the Prem’ but my god how quickly peeps forget the feeling of apathy and forlorn hope that was kicking around this time last year! Sorry but I have to ask Vinni, who were you hoping would buy us?

Also Watford is right on both accounts, firstly you don’t make the money these guys have made by being dazzled by a stripy suit! They only make money if we do so if Mendes is not working he will not last long, simple. And secondly…Moxey leaving is not good news for us for two reasons a) he was actually VERY good at his job but sadly the majority of fans didn’t see this because they didn’t seem to realise what was actually HIS remit! And b)my bigger concern is WHY is he leaving? If they REALLY did want to keep him then it should have been easy, what concerns me is Fosun have been known to run companies in and around the red… I worry that Moxey did not agree to this ethos and thats why he bowed out. Hope I’m wrong mind!

Well I for one am VERY excited about my season ticket, yes of course Zenga could well be useless…but guess what he also just might not be! Besides at least we’re back in contending for players again, managed to get that Bodvarsson from under QPR’s nose..whens the last time we did that to ANY team in our own league?? Overall I suppose for me apathy has to be worse than fear of the unknown?! Onwards and upwards COYW ๐Ÿ˜‰

dick, just because we all wanted a new owner doesn’t mean we all have to line up and accept blindly what is happening.
I ask the questions – when did Shi first meet Zenga and which other managers did he consider or meet? Who is providing the football knowledge here? A man who represents the employees?
Your post reminds me of the story of the Emperors New Clothes.

Sorry…whats HAPPENING that’s so offensive to you?! We new that Mendes was going to be involved and therefore new his agents would be the bulk of our signings so why is it suddenly such a poisoned chalice before a ball been so much as kicked?! I get the concerns on Zenga, as stated wouldn’t have been my choice but is it not possible you don’t know as much as you think here as well. We have employed a man who famously doesn’t stay long…maybe thats for a reason ever considered that? AVB was firm favourites when I went to bed, the same AVB who has three months to run on his year out of football. Is it not just possible that they were not convinced by Jackett and so bought Zenga in to steady the ship while they consider there long term options?

On that note I do love all this intimate knowledge that you seem to have of people who we had never even HEARD of two weeks ago! You have made a MASSIVE assumption that Shi is some naive oaf who is like a new kid in school running around flashing his diner money! You tell me, where did Shi meet Zenga? You seem to be so certain that you know but is it not possible that their paths had crossed before and thats actually were the idea has come from?! Also why are you SO suspicious of the link at this stage? Cause from what I can see Fosun are the chief investors in Mendes latest venture…so does that not maybe suggest that they both need to be successful for that to work? Therefore by association Wolves would need to succeed? Cause lets be realistic the money Mendes makes from signing on fees will be buttons to what he will make if his venture takes off, so ACTUALLY if I was one of his agents I would be more concerned that he would put the Wolves agenda before my own career, luckily that ones not our problem!

I also notice that you are yet to answer the question from myself and Watford…so I’ll ask again: who did you want to buy us?!

And not sure where the emperors new clothes analogy comes from because I’m not saying ‘everything is perfect’ but then when is it in football. See I would say that your post reminds me of a lost episode of Dads Army…crying ‘We’re doomed’ for no apparent reason before we have so much as seen these guys play?? Like I said maybe we should just give peeps a chance before making our judgements eh?!

I’ve been out of the country for a week, but a couple of loans and short term contracts – and God knows we needed bodies! – can’t be such a bad thing! Until this we were looking favourites for relegation with an owner who had deep pockets and short arms so we’re on the right track. I have to say I’m sad Kenny has gone, but the majority wanted him out and if we’re going to attract top players I suppose we need a ‘name’ manager; note how the signings largely followed Zenga’s appointment. Finally, our owners are big fish and wouldn’t be worth what they are without some serious nous – I don’t buy the ‘Mendes is my friend’ line either; we can’t be sure who is using who.
Anyhow, calm down chaps and enjoy the next spin on the roller coaster: it might even be a spectacular success – about time we had one.

dick, calm down, its a football discussion, thats all!

I don’t know when Zenga met Shi but I would bet it was last Thursday/Friday.

I make my opinion based on what I am seeing and reading- and the warning bells are ringing loud and clear.

Who did I want to buy us? Fosun are fine – wealthy billionaires – but their initial moves worry me and the man who is running the Wolves now is starting from scratch.

Look at Villa – they have new owners with a similar profile to Wolves but they have bought football experience via Keith Wyness.

Who have we got? A football agent?

Vinnw – fair last post but whoever bought us were going to be starting from scratch. I think Fosun assumed that they were going to get their running a football club expertise from Moxey but he is going and very much hands off right now. Until we get his replacement we will lack that steady hand that the Moxey’s and Wyness’s provide. These do not however provide knowledge of football in that sense that’s where Mendes comes in and why are we bothered ? because he is an agent !

Perfectly calm Vinni Old bean, but having read my post back the tone is more aggressive than intended so apologies there as that was not my intention. To be honest I wasn’t even ranting at you really, I think it has actually been more the mood/themes on other sites (E&S, Wolves Rumours etc) a decent portion of which are VERY negative!

Ironically Vinni I feel some of the concerns raised are valid. I mean why Zenga of all choices (was hoping for Silva or Bruce)? which I suppose is also why I’m thinking they must know its short term. What REALLY is Mendes role and who will profit most?! I get it, think we all have a bit of the fear for the unknown here.

To answer your question asked though regarding ‘Football Experience’ I think thats the new role of ‘Team Operations Manager’ (where do they find these titles;). That Andrea Butti guy we’ve taken from Monaco, not going to pretend to know much about him but I do know Monaco have been signing some eye watering young talent in the last 5 years or so.

I suppose the point I was trying to make (even if it was labored) is that this time last season and indeed for most of that season was of the worst EVER for me! Yeah the double relegation’s were bad but at least there was some feeling (albeit it anger), last season there was NOTHING! Just complete apathy from almost all our fans from around October onward (attendances of course reflected this). This year will be my 21st as a season ticket holder (I think;) and I can’t tell you how hard it was for myself and my Dad to find the enthusiasm for the 4hr round trip on those cold mid-week nights last season! Not playing a violin, I would have it no other way BUT well let’s just try and enjoy the ride eh?! Yes it may crash horribly but until it does lets just try and enjoy the ride and give these guys at least a genuine crack before we start self imploding and seeing fans swearing at them in the Preston car park! ๐Ÿ˜‰ COYW

Dick makes a really good point about Butti, I totally forgot about him and his track record looks good. PS 4 hour round trip that’s dedication but the train is much less stressful I find .
