JM – Not really drooling mate. But it’s exactly because of where we are at the moment that this has been a good week for Ole and the team. I’ve enjoyed it, Fernandes looks like a player and Martial seems to be in good shape – plus we lost to Watford last time out in what was the worst result of the season. So i was happy to put 3 past them yesterday.

    Onwards and upwards!

@hooked – I agree that Smalling is limited on the ball, but Lindelof is just as bad if not worse, some of his ‘passing’ yesterday was horrific, plus he is a complete liability defensively. Ole got that one badly wrong, simple as that.

No doubt that Lindelof was shocking yesterday. However I’d argue that was Lindelof at his worst, at his best he’s twice the footballer that Smalling is. Ole gambled that Lindelof would be a consistently good footballer and improve his defensive game. It doesn’t look like that is going to pay off, on the flip side, Smalling is definitely not the answer either. Premier League titles won’t be won with Smalling in the team. Either Bailly or Tuanzebe needs to step up and take the place or we still need to sign a quick (something Lindelof isn’t) defender to play alongside Maguire.

@hookeddevil – Smalling has been playing very well for Roma and, IF (and it’s a big if) he had to replicate that next year at United then I’d say that he can definitely challenge (and maybe even overtake) Lindelof or Bailly.

I think a CB squad of Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly and Smalling (with Tuanzebe in reserve) would be a good one BUT there are a lot of ifs:

    – If Smalling can replicate hie Roma form
    – If Bailly can stay fit
    – If Tuanzebe can kick on in terms of improvement of skills
    – If Lindelof can find consistency in his game
    – If Maguire can continue to improve and show form

@hooked – Sorry mate, Lindelof isn’t “twice the footballer” Phil Jones is, never mind Chris Smalling. As for “his best” I’ve no idea what that’s supposed to be, I must have blinked and missed it!!😂😂

Regards Tuanzebe, unfortunately he’s reminding me more and more of TFM, ie a complete crock who will never fulfil any potential he might have purely because he never gets on the pitch. What is it with us and knackerbag centre backs?!!

Our defenders collect injuries because they’re not quite good enough. They always end up overstretching or having to make a desperate challenge because their positioning or concentration isn’t good enough. This makes them vulnerable to injuries, Bailly, Jones, Rojo all do it. Hopefully Tuanzebe isn’t the same.

I’d forgotten we have TFM on the books!
