Well the best squad in the PL, in fact the best squad we have EVER had took on the mighty Watford at home and were outclassed, out thought, out fought and generally embarrassed by a Watford side who won again at The Emirates. Wenger picked aside from our amazing squad that was very different from the weekend, they went out with no belief, no desire, no fight, no organisation and no idea. For a side supposedly trying to win the PL (ha ha) they lacked motivation, they looked like a side that didn’t want to be out in the rain who just couldn’t be bothered. From the hapless back4, how is Gabriel the best back up right back we have is a joke, the two central defenders kept giving the ball away, missing tackles and falling over, Monreal was useless to the midfield who couldn’t pass water. Sanchez tried hard but lost heart, he’s off get used to it. Giroud plodded about as if he was on a a Treasure Hunt with clues to find the round thing but he couldn’t pull it off and then there was Ozil. The serial bottler wasn’t interested from the off, no desire, couldn’t care less. Watford deserved their win, they wanted it more and they looked as if they had the better players. Never mind, we can take comfort in the fact we have the best squad in the PL, in fact the best squad we have ever had. Shame Watford didn’t know that.
January 31, 2017 at 10:37 pm #1426878That was peak arsenal followed by peak the oracle.
January 31, 2017 at 10:48 pm #1426905But seriously, this is our best squad ever. This is our year. We will win the league.
January 31, 2017 at 11:09 pm #1426961Just goes to show that you don’t actually have the best squad in the premier league.
January 31, 2017 at 11:26 pm #1426992I actually thought this time around, Ozil showed more fight than usual without actually spraying or being neat and tidy. Looked more robust on the ball, other than that you summed it up pretty well. Just poor all round…
January 31, 2017 at 11:38 pm #1427009I don’t think much needs to be said as the lads said it perfectly tonight on the pitch. Regardless of whether we get anything against Chelsea, the top 4 fight is well and truely on as most of us knew already from the beginning of the season and another year of not winning the league. Come on Wenger, sign on the dotted line and make us endure more of this tripe. For once, think of the fans and walk away because even Bill Murray didn’t have to endure this many Groundhog days!
February 1, 2017 at 1:42 am #1427049There is a silver lining to this cloud: I am convinced Wenger will not be there next year. If he has a little dignity and self respect left, he will know that he cannot deliver anymore. Every year the same shit. The players need someone who kick their lazy, unmotivated asses… We did not have one shot on target in the first half. Enough said. Wenger out!
February 1, 2017 at 7:32 am #1427086Amz, yes you’re right, we don’t have the best squad in the PL. I know that, you know that and anyone with half a brain knows that. But there are still, yes I know it’s unbelievable, there are still people on here deluded enough to think we have. These same people think Wenger knows what he is doing and we are going to win the PL. They also believe gas &electricity is free, there’s no such thing as income tax and Elvis is alive and well does indeed work at Sainbury’s. Sometimes the level of intelligence on here astounds me, it really does.
February 1, 2017 at 8:26 am #1427123To be fair, your squad is very decent. There are 3 major things you lack in your squad/first team.
Passion
Leadership
Winners mentalityThen you just need a world class striker (they aren’t easy to find and you have to put £££££ down to get them).
I like watching Arsenal lose ONLY because ArsenalFanTV cracks me up!
February 1, 2017 at 9:52 am #1427204The players must shoulder a lot of the blame but Wenger has to go now. They just don’t seem up for it and I think he is not able to motivate them. Now that everyone is nearly fit, Wenger has no clue who is best side is. He has repeatedly said that Ox is best position is central midfield as is Ramsay, Wilshere, Iwobi so why has he allowed the squad to become so big with most of our midfielders preferring to play in the central role. Have a bit of insight and buy players that will make a difference and play then to their strengths. He is now out of his depth and if you listen to what he says then we have one of the strongest squads and best selection forwards in his time yet we are not challenging or winning any major trophies. He must be a failure.
February 1, 2017 at 11:01 am #1427263This chat about the squad, everyone has a valid point.
It isn’t the best squad we’ve had under Wenger, that’s for sure, but it’s better than what they’re currently achieving.
I gamble on horses for a living, one of my best angles in racing is when they move a talented horse from an average trainer, to a new trainer who’s much better. All of a sudden, the horse massively improves and wins races it couldn’t under it’s former handler.
Take on the same principle, you give this squad, to a more talented manager, and undoubtedly we are 5pts+ better this season already.
At least this underachievement means Wenger has no excuses by the end of the season – he’s gone now, surely. Our biggest concern is signing Sanchez to a new contract, for all we know, he’s waiting for Wenger to be replaced before he does. He’s not stupid, perhaps he sees what we all see.
February 1, 2017 at 11:13 am #1427279The problem is New Era we don’t all see it. Some blindly refuse to accept Wenger isn’t the man we need and that is how he manages to cling on for grim death. I can’t see him leaving by choice at £8.5million + profit sharing and other associated bonuses for failing who would. This ludicrous notion that we have the best squad in the PL and in one case the best squad we have ever had is laughable. You only have to look at it in depth, of course it requires football knowledge and that is sadly lacking on here. Cech is on the wane, a mere shadow of his former self and Ospina is a reasonable stand in but the top clubs all have better keepers than Tech. The defence is weak, weak, weak. Bellerin is class going forward but can’t defend and his back up is a 3rd rate CD, neither left back Monreal or Gibbs is anywhere near good enough. Then in the centre we have Koscielny & Mustafi, Koscielny is a good CD but nothing more, as for Mustafi I’m not convinced. He was awful last night, weak, kept giving the ball away, he’s slow on the turn, we need better. In midfield we are so unbalanced it’s untrue, far too many central midfielders, no genuine holding players and a formation that doesnt suit anyone. Up front lots of options but again the wrong balance. When you add a poor mentality and very little bottle or self belief how can it possible be the best squad we have ever had. We need a new manager and we need a clear out and it can’t wait. This has to be Wenger’s last season but I suspect it won’t be.
February 1, 2017 at 11:15 am #1427282It’s alright lads, Wenger’s explained what happened – the players weren’t mentally ready.
I’d forgotten that it’s only January and that we’re only five months and 30-odd games into the season.
February 1, 2017 at 11:51 am #1427313Thanks guys,
I’ve had a lovely day reading all the interactions. From Squirrel’s nuts to Elvis’s hiding place, classic.
I’m as angry as Oracle, yet pleased for Al, as he will stop going to Tesco’s looking for Elvis. See Al, I told you Sainsbury’s.
I think we are all pi$$ed off with this “almost there”, season after season. Time for change, clean out players and Manager.
I like the horse punting adage, We hoped we have a race horse, but find it’s turned into a Donkey.Hee Haw. Gooner for life. Respect.
February 1, 2017 at 11:54 am #1427316Al, yes I heard him. He must have that little gem on rewind. I’m fed up of hearing him say the same thing about the same players. I get very annoyed regarding some of the daft assertions on here about the quality of the squad and how brilliant the manager is but I appreciate everyone that bothers to comment does want what’s best for Arsenal (or at least they should, and I do mean Arsenal and not Arsene) but for the manager to KEEP REPEATING that same farcical quote “We weren’t mentally ready”, for professional footballers 2nd in the table, due to play the leaders on Saturday to NOT BE MENTALLY ready is utterly disgraceful. The same players, the same manager. You don’t need to be a psychologist to work out that in that case the manager needs to go and so do those ‘mentally weak players’. And to think two of them want £300,000 per week for not being mentally ready. Truly astounding.
February 1, 2017 at 12:20 pm #1427330Yes Al reading Wenger’s post match comments had me in stiches. ‘Not mentally ready’ ‘not 100% switched on’ ‘the players will have to learn and respond’. Anyone new to football would get the impression this is Wenger first season at Arsenal. Yet this is his 20th and he should know better than everyone that players must be in top physical and mental condition every time they step out onto the pitch. He should know this yet he’s acting like he doesn’t have a clue why we got turned over. Anyone else confident the players will learn and respond like he demanded? Yeah I know silly question. By the way we don’t have the best squad ever. However I believe we have arguably the most inconsistent squad ever.
February 1, 2017 at 10:21 pm #1427815Oracle I feel it will be wengers last. Once we’re out of everything, home attendance will drop even further, fan disapproval will be heard, the media will start asking the right questions, I reckon his failures will be too difficult to play down. If he was going to sign irrespective of this year’s performance, he would’ve done so already.
