Probably the 3rd hardest ranked game of the season in the Premier League and we’ll do well to get something out of this. Everything points to a less than ideal outcome however you never know. Key points are:
obviously West Ham’s own form and the difficulties we will have at their ground with their fans behind them plus their clear upturn in ability, form and results.
Early kick off and lack of recovery time from our perspective with so many injuries and key players missing or possibly burnt out. Yes, West Ham may have the same issues but I’m just looking at where we are at.
Our own form which has become a little inconsistent but understandable with so many changes match after match and some players struggling for form.
Our lack of a currently fit and in form striker that can hold the line and cause major problems for the opponent. Lukaku would not be match fit yet and will struggle if expected to play from the start.
Our ongoing problem with converted chances. 1 or 2 of 20 to 25 chances is pretty poor overall and it is consistent which is a worry.
West Ham are only likely to afford us a handful of chances.
Anyway that is my take on this one and a draw would be sensational considering all of the above. Fingers crossed 🙂
999 feel free to tinker with the thread description to suit kick off time and TV rights etc etc.December 2, 2021 at 7:51 pm #2026165
I was a tad worried leading into this game now I’m thoroughly depressed 67.😊
Definitely a tough one though even if we were to be at full strength.
Cheers will do 67.December 2, 2021 at 10:58 pm #2026349
Yes 999, I have been eyeing off this fixture for quite some time as THE banana skin and what I have seen since the Burnley draw in the league inclusive of all of the above issues is worrisome. If the performance v Juventus was to surface then any concerns would be unwarranted. I’m normally Mr Positive but this match in the middle of a congested fixture list has me on the edge of my seat. I’d be rapt to be proven wrong but if all of Jorginho, Kovacic and Kante were out I could see us in big trouble. Jorginho was sorely missed v Watford so hopefully he is fit and ready to go.December 3, 2021 at 12:03 am #2026361
On the contrary, i feel relaxed and optimistic about this game. I think we may get a few players back for this one, Jorginho, James and even Kante may be available who knows? I was also pleased with the performance of Havertz, Ziyech and Mount. That may be our front 3, with Lukaku and Pulisic coming off the bench should we need them or to see out the game. Silva had only 45 Minutes last night and Azpi looked completely Rusty.
I would play Azpi as the RCB and drop Christensen, because West Ham will play deep and try to hit us on the counter, so we need Azpi to support and put in those croses from the RCB area. If Jorginho is fit and Kante returns, i would throw both of them straight to the show. I would rest Loftus Cheek for our game in Russia and rest Kante or Jorginho for the premier league game.
So my predicted line up is: Medy, Azpi, Silva, Rudiger, James, Jorginho, Loftus Cheek/Kante, Alonso, Ziyech, Havertz, Mount.
I would say whenever people have doubts if Chelsea can win that game is when we are at our most dangerous.December 3, 2021 at 12:55 am #2026365
Let’s hope so young-blue. Maybe I am using reverse psychology to get a positive result. Maybe it’ll work. A win at West Ham would be massive. They are a pretty decent outfit this season as their standing in the table would suggest 🙂December 3, 2021 at 4:37 am #2026369
West Ham are tough to crack. Especially with Moyes. I can see difficulties for us. And we have a lot of injuries at the moment. And they had some bad results recently, so they need results too. I am not too optimistic this time. My feeling is a draw. Not sure who are still injured, who are ready to play.December 3, 2021 at 11:40 am #2026475
I think Jorginho will probably make the West Ham game 67 be good to get James and Kante back too but I don’t think we’ll get too many back for this one hope I’m wrong.😊December 3, 2021 at 11:49 am #2026481
Kante and jorginho would be massive, they play such a vital role nipping counters in the bud and controlling the game.
Kovacic still a huge muss also he was out of this world good at start of season.
Haven’t had close to our best 11 for a while but still top just about, can only be pleased.December 3, 2021 at 12:33 pm #2026506
The same starting line up that opposed Watford would not cut it with West Ham especially on their own patch and there’s been injuries since. It is vital that mid-field is rock solid and full of expereinece and if that is not available then we are in for a tough lunch time on Saturday in my opinion for what it is worth.December 3, 2021 at 1:18 pm #2026525
No doubt about it 67December 3, 2021 at 1:31 pm #2026537
I think we will be a bit stronger on Saturday and it won’t be the same team v Watford with Chabolah out for sure. This game would be a tough one whoever was available but it won’t be an easy game for West Ham either.
As Lucky said we “Haven’t had close to our best 11 for a while but still top just about, can only be pleased.”
Any team would miss 6 key starters credit to Tuchel, his staff and the players for keeping us where we are during such a difficult period of injuries.
We would have all taken where we are now at the beginning of the season even without all the injuries.
Two bits of good news from the Tuchel press conference “Jorginho and Reece James are fit to play.” Sadly still no Kante and Kovacic is still probably a bit away.
Team picks itself imo but as always I trust Tommy’s selections.
Christensen, Silva, Rudiger
James, RLC, Jorginho, Alonso
Mount Havertz CHO
The above team or whoever Tommy picks although it will be a tough game should be good enough to cause West Ham a few problems and it will be a strong offensive bench too🤞December 3, 2021 at 3:05 pm #2026585
Gutted Kante still out, was thinking he seems to be injured a lot lately so checked this out and it’s alarming if you look at the history
He played 33/38 prem games for Leicester in his season there
In his first 3 seasons with us he played 35, 34, 36
Last 2 seasons though…. just 20 and 24!
This season just 6 of 14 so far
When he is fit there is no one better but that trend is getting worrying nowDecember 3, 2021 at 3:18 pm #2026591
Tuchel hints at a possible Lukaku start?December 3, 2021 at 7:22 pm #2026687
Any team minus its spine would struggle and apart from having our first choice keeper available which is important for mine we were minus the following against Watford, Chilwell and James – the two first choice and essential wing backs, Jorginho, Kovacic and Kante – the heartb=eat of our midfield options and Lukaku our no 1 Striker. You are entitled to lose 9 out of 10 with that missing and we are 1 out of 1 so we are doing pretty good considering. All that aside, if we are minus that lot or the majority of that lot against West Ham then we will be 1 out of 2.December 4, 2021 at 4:55 am #2026728
Odds of a red card for Kurt Zouma for receiving two yellows? Odds on him scoring against us from a corner? Even juicier taking the double 🙂
Livescore’s listed line up as follows looks solid enough:
Edouard MendyDecember 4, 2021 at 7:20 am #2026731
Think the powers that be need to start on mission impossible and find the next Kante cause he is getting older and because he does so much running probably a bit susceptible to muscle injuries, though I suspect he can still go on for a few more years. His our biggest miss by far. Hopefully Kovacic also gets over his injury we miss his foraging from deeper areas, Loftus Cheek is a far better player just behind the strikers but there’s too much competition for that position. Tough having to select the team especially upfront where they all blow hot and cold.December 4, 2021 at 7:37 am #2026734
‘Jorginho, Timo Werner and Reece James are training and available,’ said Tuchel.
‘We did not train with Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo, Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah today, and they are all out.
‘It’s a lot of midfield players. We have missed Kova for many weeks, and also NG. Ben Chilwell is a long one. For Trevoh we need more examinations to see how bad the injury is.”
4 out then according to Tuchel. Kovacic, Kante, Chilwell and Chalobah the first three are big misses obviously but everyone else is available. James and Jorginho are very welcome returns.
James coming in for Azpi, Silva coming in for Chalobah and Jorginho coming in for Saul imo strengthens the team that started v Watford. Still a very tough game though.🤞🤞🤞December 4, 2021 at 10:05 am #2026761
Not sure if I’m looking too forward to today’s game after a rather moderate performance against Watford and all those injuries. Also Hammers away should be even much tougher buf it depends on the day. Think they also have injuries read somewhere. Anyway good luck think this is a game we need to win as City and Liverpool will overtake us as they both should win their games, and there’s the dark shadow of United lurking now that they have a proper manager.December 4, 2021 at 12:08 pm #2026790
Lose the mid-field battle and most likely the football match. We are entitled to be concerned. Declan Rice is going to cause us substantial problems I think. Ecstatic to be proven wrong and we do the business with little need for concern.December 4, 2021 at 12:23 pm #2026796
Ruben Loftus-Cheek may be key to what happens. He needs to have a huge game. He’s more than capable and this is his chance to really prove it.
