A palace fan here to ask a question… why when Sunderland have a clearly massive fan base and huge gates does it not spend well year on year when even the prem money goes up…. or have they spent a lot but either overpaid on low quality or have they bought quality and if hasn’t worked well? I just don’t understand why such a big club struggles so much each season….

Oh, we have spent! How we have spent! Rodwell 10m+, Fletcher 14m(?), Alvares 9m(?), Adam Johnson 12m(?), Borini 10m, Giaccherini 7m,and numerous others such as Mavrais, Bridcutt, Buckley, Ba, Karlsson, Altidore, Van Aanholt, Coates, and MANY more. However the spending has been little more than ‘giving money away’.

At the same time, we let Colback’s, Bardsley’s and Gardner’s contracts run dowm and they departed for free. Transfer dealings in this club in recent years borders on the criminal. In any other industry the persons responsible would be sacked at the very least or prosecuted at the worst.

To illustrate, in 2013 we sold Frazier Campbell for 1/2m and bought Danny Graham for 5m. Swansea hieracrchy couldn’t believe their luck. 5m for a player who has never been and never will be a premiership striker! The incompetence of those runningoure club is almost beyond belief.

Yes we have great fans and big gates, but the club unfortunately is run by incompetents and we bleed money.

I despair! I’m begining to think that it would be best if we are relegation so that we can hopefully ‘start again’ with new owners, new management, a new team manager/coach and a professional approach.

Its all down to the men and women in charge. It needs a clear out and hopefully this is now happening. Who knows the following few weeks may see us re-born, I’ll not hold my breath though!

7 managers in 7 years since Short came here, what does that tell us. Promised DA 50 mill to buy quality players, didnt do it.Got rid of the only person on the board who new owt about football in NQ,why cause Nial probably told him what he thought. Hats the answer to all that ,well I think its this board haven’t got a clue how to run a football club, they only want to milk our club, embarrass us, and don’t give a dam about the fans, and lie from their back teeth. Just get rid of this clueless set of idiots. What manager would want to come here.Having said that I think Dick was lost for what tactics to play it wasn’t right. Who next god knows, its been mentioned that Short is good friends with Harry Rednapp if that happens I will just give up with it all, thats the way this lot have got me now.42,000 fans bottom of the league, fantastic fans having the micky took out of them by this lot

Well put Wear_Mouth. Most of the trades you mention beggar belief and the salaries that fringe players are given is criminal. But this is nothing new at Sunderland, Who remembers the Nunez farce. We appear to have well meaning amateurs making the financial decisions at the SoL unlike Spurs for instance where “Love him or Hate him” Levy always seems to come out top in financial deals, and boy has he taken our club to the cleaners several times in the last few years. Lets now have a major clear out of incompetent staff and players, appoint a safe pair of hands as manager for the next few years and if possible invite Sir Niall to return in order to educate the clueless board.
