I don’t want to read about anymore links to attacking players instead I want to see Chelsea linked to and signing to a big strong Keeper, a top quality centre back and a left back who can defend as well as attack until we sort those positions out everything else should be on the back burner.

If you score 2 goals away from home with a proper defence you don’t lose 3-2!

agreed. While our attack yesterday wasn’t top shape, we still scored 2. I would like to highlight the GK department. We were blessed to have good keepers (de Goey, Carlo Cudicini) and world class keepers (Cech & Courtois) in the past. In fact I think Kepa is Chelsea’s worst 1st choice GK since I started to be a Chelsea fan in 1990’s. Dmitri Kharine wasn’t superb, especially in handling crosses, but Kepa is worse than him. We had Beasant before with Kevin Hitchcock as back-up, not bad.

So far I see, Kepa is good with his feet, but that’s all he has. Small posture, not a good catcher, positioning really so-so, one-on-one bad, cross-handling poor … and the list continues. Our defense hasn’t helped him for sure, but I think he has to take a big chunk of the blame too. Their disallowed goal and their first goal, where was he? Trying to catch the cross but did not get it and lost position alltogether.

I think GK has to be our priority for the next transfer target. Not Havertz, not Rice

Poor display yesterday, but it has been coming as we have not defended well recently. I think confidence at the back is at a very low ebb. Rudiger is the best example, he has been excellent for us until recently, he does not look the same player currently. My thinking is that the nervousness at the back stems from a lack of belief in Kepa. I was hoping that after the break a stronger, more confident Kepa would emerge, not so, he looks ever more nervous.

I think it essential we get a new keeper for next season and get back what we can for Kepa. We would still need a centre back and a left back too. Only if money is available for additional signings over and above these three players should we look at more attacking signings. In the meantime I would reinstate Willy and put Kepa out of his misery.

alanp, yeah, I too would reinstate Willy for the rest of the season. Not that he’s world class, but Kepa is worse than him. We’re linked with Areola, I suggested to buy him on this forum at the time that Courtois left. Might have been the right choice at that time, but I don’t think anymore this time. He hasn’t played much for Real. So I would spend big for the new GK, without hesitation, this is THE area we need the most to reinforce. Hope FL and Marina and Cech will bring Donnarumma or Onana.

“Chelsea target Kai Havertz “dreams” of playing in the Premier League, according to Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Wendell.”

Potentially good news for Chelsea if accurate?

We need to be focussed on strengthening the defence though too which will require some sales out despite circa £50m of the Hazard and Morata money still being available after the purchases of Werner and Ziyech.

It’s difficult to keep the list above current given we are linked to so many players including Keepers I think we’ll sign a Keeper in the window either to replace Kepa or give him some real competition.

What about Matt Maggio there’s always getting positive feedback about his performances, plus I think he has decent height which is an advantage for a centre half.

“MARC GUEHI 8 – Star Man

The Chelsea loanee was handed his chance to shine and impressed against the physicality of Connor Wickham. A real force in the air too. The biggest plus to emerge from the game for the Swans.” Swansea 2 Sheffield Wednesday 1 5/07.

Possible back up Centre back option next season?

Good video on the Chelsea site announcing the signings of all the new Scholars.

With the introduction of all the Academy players to the first team squad and first team this season it will be interesting to see how these new scholars develop especially as they’ve now seen a pathway to the Chelsea first team now exists.

    Worth a watch.

999 I haven’t seen Guehi, but is he big enough to be our main centre back? I googled, he is 1.82 cm. I think he’s a bit short for a CB in a back four. If we decide to go for Rice, he is not extra big neither for a CB.

Seen Havertz in several matches after the restart as there was only Bundesliga to watch at that time. Impressive. Great finisher. Good technique. Left foot, right food, header, he can do it all. But again I don’t think he is what we need, our priority at the moment. Our GK and backline need to be strengthened. While I rate Havertz better than any Chelsea player in that position, we have Mount, Barkley, RLC in central midfield (attacking part).

90m is steep, especially where we have other sectors more urgent to reinforce.

    Re Declan Rice.

We have to trust in Frank’s judgement and Rice is undoubtedly a good player.

Whether the Club will pay what will almost certainly be an enormous fee for a player we had at the Chelsea Academy level up to age 14 is open to conjecture it’s been suggested the Club won’t because of that but personally if he’s the right player I don’t think it should get in the way.

Having said that we need a dominant Centre Back a la Koulibally imo who is too expensive for his age I’m not sure Rice fits that profile if Centre Back is where we are planning to play him.

If we were fortunate enough to buy Havertz we would be circa £20m down on the Hazard/Morata money and that’s before we sign anyone else which means if we really want to bring in the players we’re linked with including perhaps Rice we have to move some out like Michy Emerson etc etc too.

nine yeah, West Ham beat us, so they would probably stay up thanks to their victory against us. And if they are not relegated, they won’t sell Rice for cheap. I cannot see him ideal for us, he is not what we need. We’re also linked with Upamecano of RB Leipzig who may be a better match for our needs.

Another option is Nathan Aké, Bournemouth seem to be going down at their rate of defeat at the moment. Not a big commanding defender but is highly intelligent and knows how to score. We do have Tomori though with similar features to Aké

Havertz – He is a generational talent and this might be the only window in which we could get him. If he stays at Leverkusen one more season a bigger club like Real Madrid will be after him. We should get him at all costs.

Koulibaly – he. is 29. Chelsea will see that as too old to spend £50+m. We wont sign him.

So I say we do everything to get Havertz and then try get someone like Declan Rice or use Ampadu until a real top defender presents themselves to world. Maybe Umpemancano or Romagnoli but i dont know much of them. Same for the left back forget Chillwell he’s a ripoff. We should try going for Telles, Tagliafico or Grimaldo.

Frankly speaking i don’t care about Kai — we are very loaded in the area where he will be playing. Creating chances have never been Chelsea issue, were we are found wanting is B2B player in the form of Ramirez/Essein/ Wjnaldum. Players comfortable in both defensive and attacking phase of the game. We tends to have players comfortable in attacking – Barkley/RLC /Mason or Deep playmaker in Jorginho/Gilmour. Then we have Kante who never really fit into both.
Kai in Chelsea wouldn’t work — reminds me of Barkley a lot.

We should either promote from within – for our Midfield like – Tino Anjorin/ Gallagher who is like Mount.
Sign GK like Rajkovic and a Left back.
As per CB — if am Frank i will play Tomori and Zouma let them grow together.

I dont mind us signing Ake and play him as Leftback i strongly believe he can do it. He may a defensive one but at least that will balance our backline — when James attacks (which he is good at )we can swap to 3 at the back with Zouma/Tomori/Ake. Pulisic wouldnt bother a lot with defending.
