Worryingly the Mendy transfer appears to be stuck witn Rennes allegedly wanting Tomori on loan for a season included in the deal?

Why can’t we offload them a couple of players not in Lampards plans, we have quite a few.

Unless there is traction elsewhere, why not offer them Bakayoko. He knows the League and has no future at Chelsea.

Tomori has a future and would much prefer to see him get the experience at another prem league club!

    Regarding Willian:

After Thiago joined I read that Willian was quoted saying “If I had known you were on the way I would have stayed”.

Just proves the move was all about being with his Brazilian chums

Not just his chums Bort. A fat weekly wage and a 3yr deal also helped. Willian would have been a useful squad player for us for this season and maybe next but would not have got in ahead of Ziyach, Havertz or Pulisic. Let the Goons take our rejects…good luck to them. I’m still unsure of Frank and his apparent obsession with Rice. £70m is completely ridiculous and hes unproven as a top PL CB. To be honest I’d rather have initiated our buyback clause for Ake and deployed him primarily as a defensive midfielder with the option of covering as a CB or full back. Our liss is Citys gain as I have a feeling he will thrive under Pep.

bort agreed. Willian showed good performance during the restart but I think Chelsea have done the best we could to retain him. He did not want to take the offer of 2 years contract, so off he went.

About Mendy, have we had a deal or not, it’s becoming unclear. If Rennes want Tomori on-loan, I don’t think Chelsea would have any objection with that as we have now so many centre-backs now with Thiago came in. And from Tomori’s point of view, Rennes would play Champions League, it would be a clear step-up from the last time he was regular, with Derby in the Championship. IMO there must be something else that is holding this deal

Aindro…Got a feeling Rennes are tightening the screw and tekkin the piss in a a game of bit of brinkmanship as we now seem between a rock and a hard place now that the season has started and clubs are not willing to sell their keepers with very little time to buy in a replacement, otherwise I’m sure Chelsea would’ve told Rennes to go take a running jump and that we’ll take our business elsewhere.Although I wasn’t keen on Mendy I just knew something was up why it’s taking so long to wrap up the deal.Maybe the powers that be have called a halt to proceedings fearing that Chelsea’s street cred would go south for future dealings in the market if they are getting played like this…imho

Skysports reporting Bayern Munich after Hudson Odoi again, think we’d be mad to entertain them!.I know things have gone a tad quiet for him but I’m still thinking this guy will produce and we should be patient a while longer.

metal, I wouldn’t worry too much about that when Bayern first declared their interest in Hudson Odoi he was coming to the end of his contract and Chelsea were vulnerable Calum having recently signed a new 5 year deal that is now no longer the case.

Of course Calum is frustrated and he wants to play but he has to prove he’s worth a starting place to Frank in a talented squad and it’s not like he wouldn’t be facing just the same sort of competition to start at Bayern. All unfounded rumours imo and even if they weren’t Chelsea hold all the cards.

“TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan says Lampard’s argument was deeply flawed, and told Jim White why he believes there is a big difference between the two clubs, just as Klopp suggested.

The former Crystal Palace owner said: “Nation states and oligarchs are driving football clubs in a certain direction…

“But Liverpool are a natural, organically iconic football club and, with respect to Chelsea, they are not. They’re a manufactured club on the demands of one man’s incredible wealth.

“The notion that Liverpool have somehow spent big, that’s a little bit silly really, because Liverpool sold £150million Coutinho which funded Virgil van Dijk’s move.

“So, if you’re going to draw a parallel with the £75m they spent on Van Dijk, Frank, do it between the £75m Liverpool spent and the £75m you spent on your goalkeeper – see if that works!

“If Liverpool have sold £200m worth of players, say Suarez and Coutinho, over the last five years and have spent £350m in that time, then they’ve spent a net of £30m a year.

It’s difficult to understand how someone can be as blind as Jordan.

Hazard, Morata etc etc monies are primarily funding this Summer’s transfer spend which due to the transfer ban has been condensed into the one window and there’s absolutely no difference to what Chelsea are doing in improving their team/squad through sales out than what Liverpool have done in improving their team/squad through sales out!

I always had my suspicions that Simon Jordan was a complete bell end. This confirms it!

The two parties have come to an agreement. All that’s left is the formalisation. It could even be done tomorrow, if all goes well.

“Afterwards, the player himself will come to finalise everything, including having his medical examination.”

Looks like it’s getting done at last!

good news 999. I have to say though Kepa looked more confident against Brighton than any of his performance after the restart. Nonetheless he missed a cross and he let in a seemingly savable shot. So Mendy, probably not a world class either, would provide a healthy competition for Kepa and let the best of them start. While Caballero is not bad, he is 39 years old.

Anyway I don’t think at any case Mendy will be ready before Liverpool. So Kepa will still be between the sticks against Liverpool.

Never seen Mendy play as I never watch French football even though I could. I would have loved Donnaruma but very difficult to prise. Who knows how Kepa will fare against Liverpool.

Kepas confidence visibly drained after letting in that long range strike. He more than anyone knows he is under the spotlight and that everything he does will be magnified and dissected to the nth degree. I just dont think he’s mentally cut out to handle the pressure and expectation at a PL club like Chelsea. Hopefully he proves me wrong but I fear for him against Liverpool…should he start.

Stuilse, his mentality was not good enough last season, but honestly for me the problem with Kepa is more on his physical and also technical ability. He is short and small for Premier League, he has problems with handling crosses, his hands aren’t strong enough either as several times he had a touch but the ball was still in, his positioning was not good (Kane’s goal last season) … and so on and so forth. So for me Kepa is not Chelsea quality. Especially we had great world class GK in the recent past in Cech and Courtois and very good GKs before in de Goey and Cudicini. Clearly I rate Kepa as the lowest amongst any of our starting GK since Dmitri Kharine’s era. Even I rate Kharine better than Kepa.

Is Mendy good? Only time will tell, the guy only has 2 good seasons in Ligue 1, so not much. But physically he is way better than Kepa, a tall GK like Cech, Courtois and de Goey. Chelsea fans certainly more used to these tall GKs than small ones like Kepa.

Aindro…we will just have to put faith in the judgement of Cech, he seems to rate Mendy pretty highly. His size and presence will certainly instill more confidence in our defence. Hopefully Silva can provide some much needed leadership and organisation at the back whenever he starts. Not sure he will start against LFC though.

Stuils’s right none of us had really heard of Mendy until we were linked with him importantly though he’s a Petr Cech recommendation.

There seems a bit of an impasse with the Mendy deal getting protracted after our young defender Tomori insisting he’d rather stay at Chelsea and fight for his place than go out on a season long loan as part of a deal sweetner. The plot thickens,it seems Chelsea can only break the deadlock by upping the transfer fee in a straight cash bid…watch this space!
