Good move for Gallagher imo he will playing under Steve Cooper who he knows from England and who clearly wanted him and Gallagher will be playing with fellow England U17 players in Brewster and Guehi too who he won the U17 World Cup with.

Much better to play for a Championship side going for promotion rather than one fighting relegation or a PL side with limited games and hopefully Gallagher will get regular games at Swansea.

saw the big ‘transfer’ out of the other site. Disappointing but necessary. What will hurt him most is not being able to celebrate the achievements of that quality football side as the season unfolds. Unprevoked and uncalled for. Must have been on the turps.

Good news. He is young, strong, quick. He will develop with us and I reckon he will be our right back for years to come. We really need to have this new core of players to replace Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Cech. Man Utd and Arsenal were reigning supreme at that time and yet we were able to establish ourselves and won titles. Reece James, Tomori, Mount, Abraham, Pulisic, CHO, RLC: they are all young and they are our future core.

Hope that Abraham will sign an extension too.

I am intrigued that we are linked with Dani Olmo. Never heard of him but he is 21 and Barcelona were interested in him too some days ago.

Problem with having a core such as Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Cech, none of the present lot are quite in that class just yet so they just don’t command that kind of respect or like Abraham tbey still too young. But by sticking to these excellent young home grown players Lampard is on the right path, probably need 2 or 3 quality imports though. But who I can’t really tell.

Somebody please start a thread for the match tomorrow? Otherwise I am gonna start it and Chelsea have big risk to lose or to draw as this season we haven’t won when I started the thread here on TT.

Blueowner: this season not yet. Terry’s first season under Vialli, like that too. It’s the first time the young guns play regularly in Premier League. But I think next season they will start to be more confident and gain more respect. I can see in Abraham and Mount and probably Reece James. So confident. Tomori not yet influential, Pulisic and CHO not yet influential. It’s also important for us to keep senior and influential players like Rudiger and Azpi. Me too I have no idea who we should buy to improve the squad to be a winning team but without sacrificing the development of our young guns

    Frank’s pre match conference:

Lampard dismisses suggestions that Ross Barkley, who has been linked with West Ham, could leave. He also says Willian will be staying and that the Brazilian is still in talks about a new deal.

In terms of possible signings, Lampard says there is “nothing imminent” and he is unwilling to comment on specific players Chelsea have been linked with.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard insisted Bruce Buck was ‘joking’ when he suggested the Blues were close to bringing in a new January signing.

Buck addressed the media before Lampard’s usual pre-match press conference on Friday, taking the opportunity to announce the Blues are formally adopting the IHRA definition of anti-semitism.

But before handing over to Lampard, the Chelsea chairman said: “Who are we signing? I do know, but I won’t be telling.”

“Cheers for that Bruce,” responded Lampard, “this press-conference has become a lot harder now.”

“That was a joke,” Lampard insisted. “There is nothing imminent.” Evening Standard.

    Subsequently:

“There are people waiting in the wings. I won’t talk about individuals. But there is nothing imminent.” Frank Lampard ???

We are already mid-january. I just hope if we sign a player, it’s really a player that we want. Who can improve the team, not hindering the development of our young players

Aindro, I can’t honestly see Chelsea and specifically Frank signing a player they/he don’t want and who won’t improve the team/squad.

The reason why no signings have been made to date is because the players Chelsea/Frank want are difficult to prise away from their current Clubs and the players that are in those Clubs their Clubs want top prices for those players which makes for very tough negotiations.

No transfers are easy to negotiate but in January they are even tougher to negotiate we should all try and recognise that.

Based on Frank’s quotes above there are clearly irons in the fire whether those irons in the fire actually come out of the fire remains open to conjecture though.

“There has been recent press speculation that Kante might be looking for a new challenge away from Chelsea, predictably amplified on social media with thoughts of cashing out on him in return for some stellar talent whose performance on FIFA 20 defies belief. Add to this the perennial debate about whether or not Kante is being played in his best position or not, then it is enough to worry any Chelsea supporter who loves and admires the diminutive Frenchman with the engaging smile, my nephew included.

But, surely thoughts of selling Kante are nonsense?

There is a strong argument to say that Kante remains Chelsea’s only genuinely world class player. Over and above that, his exemplary attitude and engaging demeanour make him a unique addition to any squad. Form is temporary, class is permanent and class such as Kante’s is very difficult to replace.” Football London 18/01

I don’t think the rumour is true considering Kante seems to be a quiet player. He does not seem to be like to talk too much to the media. But I have to say that Frank Lampard hasn’t found the right position for Kante. His 4-3-3 does not suit Kante well as Jorginho will always be the preferred for the pivot role. My own opinion, Kante’s quality won’t be replaced but if Frank Lampard still cannot fit Kante into his squad, I would not be surprised that Chelsea will sell Kante to buy a new player who suits better to Lampard’s formation.

We don’t play 4-4-2 like Leicester where Kante controlled the midfield with Drinkwater. Or where we were under Conte where him and Matic played in our midfield. Or we have to play 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 so that Kante will fit seamlessly into our midfield

Send Kepa on loan next summer and sign Nick Pope from Burnley

Clearly Liverpool got the better of the 2 most expensive GK in the world. Kepa is not that bad though, but he is not world class either. Unfortunately he is too lightweight for Premier League and he cannot deal with crosses. Our last GK Courtois was way above Kepa in terms of everything. Unfortunately his attitude sucked big time.

I think we do need to recruit a GK this summer with Caballero aging anyway. I think even we shouldn’t look too far, there are good GK in the Premier League. Pope would be a strong option IMO. But Dubravska (31 years old though) of Newcastle is better than him I think. Dean Henderson is good too but I cannot see Man Utd sell him to us.

We’ve been spoilt with Keepers for over a decade and more firstly with Cech and secondly with Courtois.

Kepa is suffering from what’s in front of him an ever changing back 4 his lack of height and physicality and the Centre Backs inability to defend crosses ie Rudiger on Saturday night. He has let in a few soft ones in this season though but all Keepers make mistakes look at Pope v us at the Bridge a couple of weeks back.

I think if we can get Cavani on a short term deal, we should make that a priority. I love what Tammy has done this season but he needs to share the responsibility of scoring our goals, Cavani is still a top class striker! Think he’ll need to adjust his salary expectations though, 360k isn’t going to work.

On Kepa, he needs more time, still relatively young and inexperienced but dont see him getting away with that beyond next season. I do worry about some of the goals he concedes though, on numerous occasions this season he’s got a big hand or two on the ball and its still found its way into the net, he needs to work on those poppadom palms, expensive keepers keep those out. Wouldn’t be thinking about replacing him just yet.
