lets be honest, many teams play weaker sides especially just after christmas and thats without being top of the table and looking to win the PL for the first time in a generation….

you played a PL side that on there day and recenlty have beaten the likes of spuds at home and play decent football and are no push over

we played Blackpool with mainly kids but thats the level you can get away doing that, if we fielded that team against wolves we would have lost

its a case of priorities and fitness and fatigue etc

had you been 4th in the league and city running away then this game would have been more important, its a shame it came up after the fisrt loss of the season making two in a row

all teams lament fringe players that dont step up when given the chance but again, they are playing a PL team that play together week in week out, its a tough ask….bit of salt is needed in these circumstances

The Lovren injury made that lineup look less respectful than it initially was.

We looked unorganised, but that’s understandable. A bit harsh to judge some of the kids and fringe players on this game, where we’ve ended up with no centerbacks and an improvised gamelan. Although of course, we were pretty crap.

Not a big deal, good rest for our regulars and we can focus on the league.
Squad is looking a bit thin right now though.

I’ve no problem with the kids, they out performed the likes of Kieta, Sturridge and Moreno.

Thing is the likes of Moreno, Migs, Sturridge, Lallana, Origi arnt likely to be here next season. That’s a few squad players needing replaced.
I’d also suggest one of Matip or Lovren need sold as they are far to injury prone and can’t be relied upon.
For me it would prob be Matip as his ceiling isn’t as high as Lovrens but the fact that Lovren has only strung more than 6 games together twice before getting injured is ridiculous.

What are you doing here, get back to work bingo 😉

Yeah I was disappointed in some aspects of Keita’s game. But then impressed with others aspects. I think he’s a potentially very good player, who’s not firing on all cylinders right now.

For example, defensively he’s able to get back and plug gaps at a pace our other midfielders never could, and few in the world could. He’s also fast with the ball at his feet. He’s very end to end, which is part of the problem. I think he’s actually getting too far forward, making runs on and around the penalty area, and should probably leave that to others and get more involved in the build up play instead.

Maybe he’s still confused about what Klopp wants from him, but he’s definitely not playing with confidence right now. Hopefully that will come, sooner rather than later.

Rob, agree with some of what you are saying here. We have enough of a squad to challenge on all fronts so to go out with a whimper in the two cup competitions that are easiest to win yet again is disappointing. That said, the league & cl should be our priority so Klopp is being prudent in selecting a side for the domestic cup competitions that may not be our best, but should still have more than enough to take us through the early ties. Yesterday I said I thought some players should have done better & I’m talking about the senior pros who should be setting an example to the young players making a debut. They should have been out there giving Klopp a headache if he leaves them out of league games, not giving him a headache because he won’t have enough games to satisfy the size of the squad now. Origi & Shakiri did well second half. Losing Lovren was a blow. Fabinho showed his versatility but collectively the game was lost in the first half when the strikers didn’t seem hungry at all. In all honesty we didn’t look that bothered to lose either & that is a concern because winning either the league & the CL remains a huge ask. If we miss out, a domestic cup would have at least felt like progress instead of remaining a millstone for a manager who has to date a poor record in cup finals. Ynwa
