Having seen the reports coming out of Jurgen Klopp’s book I must say the description of Woodward’s pitch to get Klopp in for the manager’s job is toe-curling.

So it turns out Woodward went to see Klopp a couple of weeks before Moyes’ sacking and Klopp was left unimpressed by his presentation where he described Manchester United as “an adult version of Disneyland – a mythical place where entertainment was worldclass and dreams came true”. If this was what Woodward truly thinks then he is living in coockoo land and needs a visit from the men in long white coats.

Instead of trying to entice Klopp with cheap sales talk like that he should have been telling him what plans are in place to restore the club, what the medium terms strategy looked like and how Klopp fits into that strategy. What the football ethos would be, what changes were needed and how Klopp’s strong points fit into those required changes etc.

Alas, Woodward walked in there with his Hollywood big-shot talk and gave the (correct) impression that all United was about is the glitz and the glamour. Klopp chose to stay at Dortmund and in came LvG – the rest is history.

Clearly Woodward is a sleazy salesman and it showed through. Hopefully he now realizes that the managers want to be enabled on the football pitch. Stop with your Charlie and the Chocolate factory talk and talk about football FFS.

That sounds like the BS some New York marketing company dreamt up to sell on Wall Street. Ed should have known its not going to work with a football manager.

It would have been better to let Fergie make the approach but SAF was no doubt in hiding because his tip went tits up. Failing Fergie, happyhurling and his Uncle Tommy can spin a yarn. Alternatively Zico would be the one to lick Klopps arse and make him feel needed.

What you tell us is one instance, but its a fair bet its an insight into Eds thinking and there are many more examples where he and the Glazers are out of tune with what the club and football is all about.

IF United is Disneyland, the Glazers are the Pirates of the Caribean and what Disney character is Ed? I reckon one of the 7 dwarves, Dopey.

I guess it worked out well for us in the end as Mourinho won more trophies last season than Klopp has in his whole career. What a muppet for rejecting United!

@hatters: What’s the source on that story – something on TT I missed? Not that I’m questioning legitimacy, but I have to see that story because it sounds so extremely irksome.

It’s cause for concern if that’s the sort of representation the club has when conducting serious transfer dealings of any kind.

@nil. The book is written by Raphael Honigstein, a fairly reputable football journo.
