This is what Jose said in his presser “Probably you thought Jose told them to start slow, to play nice and easy and see what happens or to be losing. It is exactly the opposite. I want them to start strong and go for it almost immediately.”

He knows what to do and what is required. Either he is lying, or the players aren’t up to it. Or both!

If the players aren’t up to it changing the manager won’t help.

It shows he is aware of the criticism about him and is counter punching the fans and media.

Who is responsible for player morale & motivation? Who trains them and selects them? And who is responsible for signing or selling them?

Need to stop starting games with Matic, Fellaini and Lukaku. My ideal XI tonight would be:
    DdG
    Dalot, Smalling, Bailly, Shaw
    Fred/Pereira, Herrera, Pogba
    Rashford, Martial, Sanchez

I fear it’ll be more like:
    DdG
    Young, Smalling, Jones, Shaw
    Fellaini, Matic, Pogba
    Mata, Lukaku, Martial

“If the players aren’t up to it changing the manager won’t help”, no shit Sherlock!. That’s what many of us have been saying for years!, it’s the whole bloody lot of them that need to be booted out of OT, and you can start with that absolute clown Woodward first!.

@blacky …. No argument the players need to be booted out but what’s the point if Jose is still here and just going to replace them with more of his signings.

Who of JM signings can we say has significantly improved the team ….
Bailley, Lindelof, Dalot, Matic, Pogba, Mkhitaryani, Fred, Sanchez, Lukaku, Ibra

    Is Dalot fit?

    (no redblood, not like that)

Just seems so fucking obvious to shove that lad more games. Although regular reserve watchers say his early performances were pretty poor. Nobody can be worse than fucking Darmian though

It’s early days on Dalot (he’s only 19 and has had a injury) but he looked promising when he did play. Fred was signed to be a defensive midfielder (when Jose apparently wanted Axel Witsel but apparently Woodward refused and said we should go for Fred due to their age profiles) and he’s clearly not one. Lindelof is improving and if we got a really good CB in I’d back him to start and keep Bailly as well. However, no-one else has improved the team in any significant way. I’d understand the boards reservations about giving Jose a lot of money but equally they should look at themselves and realise that they’re not in a position to be making/recommending/vetoing signings either as they clearly haven’t a fucking clue. The DoF argument raises its head again…….

@killyboye …… Jeez I’d love to know your yardstick for team improvement.

    * Dalot … hasn’t played (fair enough he’s a kid) so can’t have improved the team.
    * Lindelof … “is improving” (fair enough) but has he reached the required standard?
    * Bailly …. you’d “keep” as second stringer presumably because you don’t rate him good enough to be the “really good CB” Lindelof needs as a partner.
    * Fred … has 485 minutes PL gametime (which equates to just over 5 games) with a third of the season gone and still doesn’t look like cementing a place as an automatic starter.

I think they are in the “there’s still hope category” rather than the “made a significant improvement on the team” one.

Agreed Mac but there’s hope, they haven’t been completely written off yet. No, I don’t rate Bailly as a starter but he’s shown flashes. He could be a starter, again with a top CB brought in, either him or Lindelof could be a first choice CB with a top CB. As stated, I don’t think Fred is capable of playing where he’s being played, he’s not a defensive MF. He should be alongside Pogba with a proper DM behind, just not Matic.

@killyboye …… We’re in agreement that there’s hope for those players. But my point was in relation to Jose’s record in the transfer market. And to evaluate that we need to bear in mind the club’s aspirations and team requirements.

To explain, when we had a Rio Vidic, it’s acceptable to sign Jones Smalling hoping they will one day take their places. We had the luxury of time and results would not suffer with Rio Vidic doing the biz. But it’s another matter to have Smalling Jones and taking a punt on Bailley Lindelof. Jose has now realised that, which is why he desperately wants an experienced CB. (he’d probably like 2).

Likewise Dalot. Valencia is already sub standard. Dalot may very well be like Varela. Signed to be Valencia’s successor but never making it out of the reserves.

Point being. You can take a punt when the first choice is doing the biz but not if he isn’t and the team needs a replacement automatic starter.

Likewise Fred. Fred is a 50m 25 year old. He should be making an impact now but he can barely make it into the team. And if he’s bought for the wrong position what does that say about the decision to sign him.

Fergie got away with Veron because we still had Scholes. The team is not in a position for the manager to make those mistakes, certainly not a “top” manager.

That’s my point entirely Mac, especially with Fred, how was he signed to be a defensive midfielder in the Matic/Witsel mode when he’s clearly not that kind of player, he’s actually a Scholes type player but not as good and shouldn’t be asked to anchor a midfield in the Matic mode. He’s not physical enough for that role anyway.
This is all getting back to the DoF argument that has been raging on different threads since I don’t know when .
Woodward was pushing Fred, Mourinho wanted Witsel (apparently) and we’ve ended up with Fred to play out of position.
Two things are potentially happening, Woodward’s ego is getting ahead of him or Jose just couldn’t give a fuck. Either way, we’re up the stream without a paddle at the moment. Neither Jose nor the board should be allowed to dictate transfer policy at the moment.

@killyboye .. we’re talking at cross purposes. You are evaluating player performances, I’m evaluating the transfer performance of the man who signed them.

It just seems wrong to me that the CB’s need to have their hands held to prevent them from making mistakes, and the manager who signed them needs to have his hands held to prevent him from making mistakes!

And yes, we’re double fucked, DP’ed ! Ed won’t give the funds needed to rebuild the team and Jose will mispend whatever funds he does get.
