Founded 150 years ago on Christmas Day in 1871, Reading FC is one of the oldest clubs in England. Despite its age it was a late comer to the Football League, only joining in 1920. It has spent the bulk of its time playing in the lower divisions but, after reaching the heady heights of the Premier League in 2006 it is now back playing in The Championship. The club boasts a highest ever league finish of eighth in the 2006–07 Premier League. Aside from that they have never won either of the major cup competitions. They do, however, hold several impressive records, including the most successive league wins at the start of a season (they managed 13 playing in the third division in the season of 1985/86). they also hold the record for the most league points accumulated in a single season by any team in the Football League - they managed a whopping 106 points when they won The Championship in 2005/06.
Owned by Chinese retail magnate Dai Yongge, the Reading squad currently features players like skipper Michael Morrison, Portuguese forward Lucas João, veteran Canadian midfielder Junior Hoilett and pacy winger Tom Ince. Nicknamed The Royals given their location in the Royal County of Berkshire, they are also sometimes referred to as the Biscuitmen given the town's association with Huntley and Palmers. Over the years many big names have worn the blue and white shirt including Shaka Hislop, Robin Friday and Trevor Senior.
