About Leeds United

Leeds United, also known as The Whites or The Peacocks, came into being in 1919 after its predecessor Leeds City was disbanded by the Football League. A very successful club, Leeds boast three English league titles, one FA Cup, one League Cup and two Community Shields wins. They have also challenged well in European competition and although they have never won a European title they were Champions League semi-finalists in 2001 and runners-up in 1975 as well as beaten finalists in the 1973 Cup Winners Cup.

Currently riding the crest of a wave under the management of their eccentric yet revered Argentine manager Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds United are in their second consecutive Premier League season after an absence of 16 years. Previous managers who have enjoyed success with the club include David O'Leary and Howard Wilkinson, although without a doubt their most successful and influential manager was former player Don Revie who led the club from 1961 to 1974. It was Revie who changed the team's kit to white and it was under his stewardship that the club enjoyed its most successful period. It should come as no surprise that a statue of Revie was erected outside Elland Road.

Some of the biggest names to play for Leeds include Revie, Billy Bremner, Peter Lorimer, Lucas Radebe and Jack Charlton.
