Euro Paper Talk: £34m Raphinha alternative sets out Arsenal transfer demands, with Liverpool in fight; Leeds starlet set for exit

Marco Asensio, Nacho Fernandez, Eder Militao Liverpool v Real Madrid May 2022

Arsenal eye up an alternative target wanted by Liverpool as their Raphinha hopes fade away, while a Leeds starlet is set for an exit – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

Arsenal and Liverpool have Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio on their radar as an attacking reinforcement, a report has claimed.

Both clubs have already made big changes to their front lines in the early parts of the summer transfer window. The Gunners have signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City in a £45million deal.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have replaced Bayern Munich-bound Sadio Mane with Benfica’s Darwin Nunez.

However, both sides have had links with further signings up top. Serge Gnabry has been mentioned for the Anfield club, but Arsenal‘s interest in Leeds United winger Raphinha has been much more centre stage. Although, after haggling over the fee, Chelsea look to have gazumped the Gunners to the Brazilian.

As a result, AS brings versatile Madrid attacker Asensio back into the picture for Arsenal. The 26-year-old has some thinking to do as he is entering his prime and about to start the final year of his contract without the promise of regular game time.

What’s more, a renewal offer from Los Blancos has yet to arrive for the Spaniard.

He has therefore set out his demands. AS reports that, ahead of the World Cup, the 29-cap Spain international wants to be a regular starter in Europe’s premier competitions. He would have to settle for the Europa League at Arsenal, though.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are in the Champions League again next season. And COPE claims that the Reds and AC Milan have tabled an offer for Asensio.

Arsenal and Liverpool linked to £34m Marco Asensio move

Arsenal and Liverpool are being linked to Marco Asensio as the Real Madrid winger only has one year left on his current deal.

As for the fee, AS adds that Real Madrid will look for around €40million (£34million) for Asensio.

However, they realise that him being in the last year of his contract means they may have to compromise.

In any case, Asensio is currently waiting for pre-season to start. In the meantime, his new agent – the renowned Jorge Mendes – is trying to get his client a move.
