Henderson: Liverpool ‘got done’ by Sevilla

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson said his side had “got done” by Sevilla on Wednesday night.

The Reds’ Champions League return did not go entirely to plan as they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot in the 2-2 draw at home to Sevilla.

Goals from Roberto Firmino, who also missed a penalty, and Mohamed Salah appeared to have put them in control after a Dejan Lovren mistake had allowed Wissam Ben Yedder to score after just five minutes.

But with 18 minutes to go the defence switched off and Joaquin Correa nipped in to equalise with only their second shot on target.

To compound Liverpool’s frustration Joe Gomez was sent off in added time for a second bookable offence.

Henderson told BT Sport: “We could have taken the three points with the chances we created in both halves but they got us on the counter attack. We are disappointed not to take the points but the lads reacted well to the weekend. We looked exciting and could have scored a few more goals.

“We wanted to win the ball back quickly and get the crowd behind us. The lads reacted brilliantly to going behind and there are positives from the game.

“Roberto Firmino has scored penalties for us before, players will always miss penalties. We had plenty more chances to score so we need to be more ruthless and go three or four up. That is football and we have got done.”
