Arsenal transfer news: Hector Bellerin attracts new European suitor with implication for teammate

Hector Bellerin could have an alternative exit route to consider from Arsenal after being targeted by Roma boss Jose Mourinho, according to a report.

Bellerin has spent the majority of his career with Arsenal, but was out on loan in the 2021-22 season. After the acquisition of Takehiro Tomiyasu, the Gunners let the Spaniard leave for Real Betis.

It represented the first time the Barcelona academy product had played in his native La Liga. Across the season, he managed 32 appearances in all competitions.

Real Betis would gladly have him back on a permanent basis. Earlier this month, TEAMtalk learned Bellerin was yet to make a decision on his future.

But he could soon have another option to consider. According to, Roma have identified him as a possible right-back target.

The Europa Conference League winners are looking for further competition for their current right-back, Rick Karsdorp.

Somewhat ironically, they took Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan from Arsenal in January with that in mind. However, the England international hasn’t set Serie A alight in the same way as his compatriots Tammy Abraham and Chris Smalling.

Therefore, Maitland-Niles is going to return to Arsenal this summer. But Roma could still attempt to make a signing from the Premier League side.

Arsenal right back Hector Bellerin wants to make his loan move to Real Betis permanent claim that Mourinho is interested in exploring a deal for Bellerin. Inter Milan and Juventus are also possible contenders to take him to Serie A for the first time in his career.

Inter and Juventus both have Champions League football on offer. Roma, like Arsenal, will be in the Europa League next season instead. But the lure of working with Mourinho and their recent trophy win makes them worth considering too.

Bellerin may prefer Betis but should consider Roma

After the season he has had back in Spain, it is understandable why Bellerin would want to continue with Betis.

But Roma could be stronger financially and are building an exciting project under Mourinho.

They do need another right-back, although Bellerin wouldn’t necessarily be a guaranteed starter ahead of Karsdorp. Therefore, any approach would require reflection.

Yet he would stand more of a chance than Maitland-Niles has. It has been no fault of the Arsenal academy graduate’s own but he just hasn’t quite made the grade in Rome.

Bellerin has more experience and would therefore likely adapt better in the Italian capital.

Wherever he ends up, with one year left on his Arsenal contract, it seems time for the 27-year-old to sever his ties with his parent club.
