Man Utd open talks over new deal for defender demanding £120k-a-week
Manchester United are reportedly readying a huge new contract offer to keep a defender at Old Trafford.
Chris Smalling’s current deal at the club expires in the summer, meaning the Red Devils risk losing him for free should they not agree to fresh terms.
It is believed that the 28-year-old currently earns £80k-a-week, but he has ambitions of earning a weekly wage of around £120k-a-week, according to the Daily Mail.
United have an option to trigger a 12-month extension on Smalling’s current contract, however the report claims that the club are eager to agree fresh terms in order to keep the player happy.
Reports have suggested that Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo all face uncertain futures at Old Trafford, with Jose Mourinho in the market for a new top quality centre-back.
Smalling has as a result been linked with a move to Everton, but the Mail suggest that he would only consider a move to another Champions League club.
