Chelsea offered chance to boost firepower by signing two more Barcelona stars during ongoing Frenkie de Jong talks

Barcelona trio Aubameyang, Frenkie de Jong and Ferran Torres

Chelsea have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Barcelona duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Memphis Depay alongside Frenkie de Jong during ongoing talks over a deal for the latter.

New co-owner Todd Boehly is still looking to add quality additions to Thomas Tuchel’s squad before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1, with attacking midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka the latest player through the door at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are also close to sealing the signing of Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella. A £52.5million deal is expected to be done, with Blues youngster Levi Colwill moving in the opposite direction.

Thomas Tuchel also remains keen on a move for Leicester centre-back Wesley Fofana. However, the Foxes are holding out for a whopping £85m for the talented defender.

But it’s De Jong who remains near the top of Tuchel’s wishlist as Chelsea look to beat Manchester United to the punch.

The Red Devils have been chasing the Netherlands international ever since Erik ten Hag took over as manager.

However, they’ve been struggling to convince the player to join, allowing the Blues to strike for the Netherlands international.

Chelsea are hoping to do business with Barca, despite having watched on as the Catalan giants beat them to the signings of Jules Kounde and Raphinha in recent weeks.

Boehly has built up a positive relationship with the LaLiga side and is confident of landing De Jong.

However, it looks like Barca are trying to send two more of their stars to west London in the process.

Aubameyang only moved to the Nou Camp from Arsenal in January. However, he is already considering his future following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.

The links between Aubameyang and Tuchel from their Borussia Dortmund days do give some credence to a potential transfer.

Tuchel still assessing forward options

Tuchel admitted after the addition of Raheem Sterling that is happy with his forward options. However, it’s no secret that the Blues have tried to offload Timo Werner back to RB Leipzig this summer.

As for Depay, Chelsea are already well stocked in the wide attacking areas. There has been talk, though, of Hakim Ziyech being moved on – which could open up a spot in Tuchel’s squad.

De Jong remains the main prize though, with the player happier to move to London given Chelsea’s Champions League involvement this season.

He is currently the highest-paid player at Barcelona and is being asked to reduce his salary or leave. Indeed, Barca have already accepted a £71m bid from United.

The 25-year-old is owed an estimated £17m in deferred wages, which is a complicated issue that would need to be resolved first.

But there is a feeling that Chelsea could get a deal done, especially with Barca needing the cash.

The Nou Camp outfit remain in financial peril despite spending £130m on new signings. To that end, they are looking to offload fringe stars to allow them to swoop for Blues defensive duo Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.
