Major Man Utd signing one step closer after Fenerbahce snap up Fred; transfer fee confirmed

Man Utd midfielder Fred

Manchester United have accepted Fenerbahce’s offer for Fred and an agreement on personal terms is in place, and the move is primed to tee up Erik ten Hag’s fourth major signing of the summer.

Fred slipped down the pecking order last term following the twin arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. Mason Mount has since been added to the mix and is expected to be deployed in the double pivot by Ten Hag.

With Man Utd also rejecting West Ham’s £30m for Scott McTominay, Fred may have been no higher than fifth choice in the engine room if remaining at Old Trafford.

As such, United let it be known they were open to cashing in and a move to Turkey quickly took shape.

Galatasaray were the first to act, but it was bitter rival Fenerbahce who thundered in with a more suitable bid.

Indeed, the Turkish giant offered €15m (approx. £13m) for the 30-year-old Brazil international.

According to Fabrizio Romano, not only have Man Utd accepted the bid, but personal terms between Fred and Fenerbahce are also agreed.

The trusted transfer guru gave the move his signature “here we go” confirmation, before adding a medical will soon be scheduled.

Fred out, Amrabat in?

Fred’s exit, combined with Donny van de Beek’s potential loan to Real Sociedad are now expected to pave the way for Man Utd to pursue Sofyan Amrabat.

Ten Hag is seeking a new holding midfielder who’ll challenge Casemiro and the Moroccan, 26, is understood to be atop his shortlist.

Amrabat has already given the greenlight to joining Man Utd, but a deal could not take shape until United had the funds to act.

With Fred on his way to Turkey, United will soon be ready to strike for Amrabat.

If successful, he’ll join Andre Onana, Mount and Rasmus Hojlund in signing for United this window.
